A model test is performed to measure the sloshing impact pressure in the liquid tank. A preprocessing is performed to learn the model test results applied with various environmental conditions. In this study, we propose a method for generating data similar to the total pressure data using Generative Adversarial Networks. In addition, after approximating the generated result to the three parameter Weibull distribution, the difference of the three parameters was compared through the RMSE and SMAPE calculation results. As a result, the distribution of the generated data showed similar results to the total pressure data distribution.
The assessment of seismic behavior and seismic performance of ageing Sarıyar concrete gravity dam constructed on Sakarya River in Türkiye is the main focus of this paper. For this purpose, the impact of sediment domain, ageing of concrete material under the impact of chemical and mechanical actions, and dam-water-sediment interaction are included in the two-dimensional (2D) finite element (FE) model developed in FORTRAN 90 environment. In the FE model, the dam and age dependent sediment domains are modeled by solid elements, while reservoir domain is modeled by Lagrangian fluid elements. The radiation of reflected waves to the unbounded water domain is modeled by infinite Lagrangian fluid elements, while unbounded sediment domain is modeled by infinite solid elements. The coupled system was assumed to be under the simultaneous impact of Vertical (V) and Horizontal (H) ingredients of 1976 Koyna earthquake and the coupled system was analyzed in Laplace domain by direct method. Due to the deterioration of the concrete, the H and V displacement responses together with the fundamental period of the body, elongate throughout the lifetime and this reduce the seismic safety of the dam. It was deduced that the ageing dam body will not experience major damages under the Koyna earthquake both at the earlier and later ages. Furthermore, at the heel of the dam, the hydrodynamic pressure responses are decreased by rising the sediment domain depth.

Backgrounds/Aims: Acute pancreatitis is an emergency presentation, which can range from mild to life threatening. Intravenous fluids are the cornerstone of management. Although the WATERFALL trial described the optimal fluid rate in mild/moderate pancreatitis, this trial excluded patients with moderate-severe/severe pancreatitis. The aim of this study was to establish clinical practice regarding intravenous fluid administration in acute pancreatitis and assess its effect on mortality. Methods: Prospective multi-centre audit of patients with acute pancreatitis was conducted. Data were collected regarding intravenous fluid administration within 72 hours of admission. The primary outcome was 30-day mortality. Multivariable logistic regression was used to identify predictors of 30-day mortality. Results: Those with severe pancreatitis received more fluid; median 5.7 L versus 4 L in 72 hours (p = 0.003). Participants with severe pancreatitis who died within 30 days received a median of 2,750 mL in the first 24 hours, compared to 4,000 mL in those who survived. The following factors were significant predictors of 30-day mortality: age, Glasgow score, C-reactive protein, ischaemic heart disease, and pancreatitis aetiology. Overall, volume of intravenous fluid was not associated with mortality. However, the effect of intravenous fluid volume on mortality differed significantly depending on pancreatitis severity. In severe pancreatitis, increased volume of intravenous fluid was associated with significant reductions in mortality (odds ratio = 0.655; 0.459-0.936; p = 0.020). Conclusions: In severe pancreatitis, more aggressive fluid prescription was associated with decreased mortality; however, this was not the case in milder disease. Further prospective trials guiding fluid resuscitation in severe pancreatitis are needed, as the impact of fluid on this population appears to differ from that in those with milder disease.

This paper aims to describe the importance of data, data collection methods, parameters to estimate the potential of wave energy and environmental impacts. The technical and economical status in wave energy conversion is outlined. Power and energy efficiency relationships are discussed. Many different types of wave-energy converters have been detailed. The progress in wave energy conversion in Malaysia is reviewed.
The droplet impact behavior is dominated by some parameters such as surface temperature, We number, surface and fluid property. Especially, Leidenfrost effect which prevents the contact between surface and droplet is very powerful phenomenon for determining droplet impact behavior. Due to this effect, the impact regime is divided into contact boiling regime and film boiling regime whether the droplet contact with the surface. Many studies have found that surface micro-structures which processed by surface processing are effective to overcome the Leidenfrost effect. In this study, droplet impact behaviors were compared using ethanol both on flat and laser-ablated Al surface. On the flat surface, impact regime was mainly divided by surface temperature. And there is key dominant parameter for each regime. On the laser-ablated surface, we could see changed impact regime and different impact behavior such as jetting and ejection of tiny droplets despite of same impact conditions.
Prediction of performance and operating characteristics of a state-of-the-art ultra-supercritical (USC) steam turbine is an important issue in many ways. Theoretical and empirical correlation equations, developed a few decades ago, have been widely used in commercial programs for a prediction of performance. To improve of these correlation equations and apply them to the high pressure turbine of a USC steam turbine, computational fluid dynamic analysis was carried out and correlation equations to calculate efficiency variation of each stage were made. Both fluid dynamic characteristic and thermodynamic performance was analyzed for the development of the correlation equations. In particular, the impact of flow addition through an overload valve (OLV) between stages was examined throughly. The trend of pressure drop due to the flow mixing by the OLV flow addition was analyzed and an efficiency correlation equation considering the OLV flow was also made.
Liquid hydrogen, which operates in cryogenic environments has a density 800 times greater than gaseous hydrogen, making it advantageous for large-scale storage and transportation. However, continuous evaporation due to external heat intrusion and internal heat generation poses challenges. To mitigate heat conduction, various insulation materials are used. In pipe systems, viscous heating effects from turbulence and viscosity, especially in bends, cause heat generation. This study employs computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to analyze the impact of fluid velocity, pressure drop, inner diameter, and curvature radius of pipe bends on viscous heating. Using liquid nitrogen at 77 K as a working fluid, the CFD results showed that increased velocity and pressure drop along with smaller inner diameter and curvature radius enhanced viscous heating, raising fluid temperature.
This paper presents the results of experimental work on the wedge slamming impact problem. An experiment was done with a wedge model. The deadrise angle of the wedge was $4^{\circ}$. The model was made in two parts: the outside part was made of a 5-mm-thick steel plate that could be assumed to be a rigid body, and the inside part was made of a thin SUS plate that could be assumed to be an elastic body. Thin SUS plate thicknesses of 2 mm and 3 mm were used to determine the effect of plate rigidity. The drop height was varied from 0.25 m to 1 m to determine the effect of a large deformation.

During the operation of a hydro turbine the fluid mechanical pressure loading on the turbine blades provides the driving torque on the turbine shaft. This fluid loading results in a structural load on the component which in turn causes the turbine blade to deflect. Classically, these mechanical stresses and deflections are calculated by means of finite element analysis (FEA) which applies the pressure distribution on the blade surface calculated by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) as a major boundary condition. Such an approach can be seen as a one-way coupled simulation of the fluid structure interaction (FSI) problem. In this analysis the reverse influence of the deformation on the fluid is generally neglected. Especially in axial machines the blade deformation can result in a significant impact on the turbine performance. The present paper analyzes this influence by means of fully two-way coupled FSI simulations of a propeller turbine utilizing two different approaches. The configuration has been simulated by coupling the two commercial solvers ANSYS CFX for the fluid mechanical simulation with ANSYS Classic for the structure mechanical simulation. A detailed comparison of the results for various blade stiffness by means of changing Young's Modulus are presented. The influence of the blade deformation on the runner discharge and performance will be discussed and shows for the configuration investigated no significant influence under normal structural conditions. This study also highlights that a two-way coupled fluid structure interaction simulation of a real engineering configuration is still a challenging task for today's commercially available simulation tools.
