  • COBRA-TF is a two fluid, three field subchannel code. Three fields are continuous vapor, continuous liquid and droplet. Some assessments are conducted to validate the related models and to estimate a code ability through dryout and post-CHF experiment in a tube and DNB test in rod bundles. It turned out form dryout and post-CHF experiment that the predicted dryout locations and wall temperature profiles are in close agreement with the experiments. On the other hand, DNB prediction of COBRA-TF are performed for two kinds of rod bundles along with EPRI CHF correlation. To estimate its performance COBRA-IV of homogeneous model is also run for the same data. The results say that COBRA-TF/EPRI is better in DNB prediction than COBRA-IV/EPRI. In addition the thermal-hydraulic behaviors due to the different two-phase flow models are presented at the condition of CHF.

  • In the Smart UAV Development Program, one of the 21c Frontier R&D Program, the tiltrotor has been studied as the concept of vehicle. The tiltrortor aircraft take-off and land in rotary wing mode like conventional helicopter, and cruise in fixed wing mode like conventional propeller airplane. For the conversion of the flight mode from helicopter to airplane, the nacelle located at wing tip has to be tilted from about 90 degrees of helicopter mode to about 0 degree of airplane mode. In this study, the aerodynamic characteristics of the wing with tilted nacelle is investigated using computation fluid dynamics technique. In order to feature out aerodynamic interferences between wing and nacelle, the flow calculations are conducted for the wing and the nacelle separately and for the combined geometry of wing and nacelle, respectively. Through this computations, not only the aerodynamic data-base for the wing-nacelle is constructed but also its contribution to the configuration design of the wing-nacelle is anticipated.

  • Experimental study has been conducted to evaluate characteristics of particle laden flows at the ratio of channel diameter to particle diameter (B = 14.9, 21.6 and 55). Particle velocities and radial concentrations are obtained using a microscope Nd:YAG laser and cooled CCD camera. Results show that there are relative velocities between the fluid and the particles at B = 14.9. It is also observed that the particles are accumulated at r=$0.5\∼0.82R$, with R being tile tube radius, and particle migration occurs at small Reynolds number, by comparing with the results obtained in macro scale. This gives optimal factors for designing microfluidic channels for cell or Particle separation, particle focusing, and so on.

  • In this study, HFC ORCs (Organic Rankine Cycles) are investigated for a low-temperature geothermal power generation by a simulation method. A steady-state simulation model is developed to analyze and optimize cycle's performance. The model contains a turbine, a pump, an expansion valve and heat exchangers. The turbine and pump are modelled by an isentropic efficiency. Simulations were carried out for the given heat source and sink inlet temperatures, and given flow rate that is based on the typical power plant thermal-capacitance-rate ratio. 3 HFC fluids are considered as a candidate for a working fluid of low-temperature ORCs. In this study, all optimized HFC ORCs are shown to yield almost the same performance in terms of power for a low-temperature heat source of about $100^{\circ}C$.

  • The influence of aerated oil on a high-speed journal bearing is examined by classical thermohydrodynamic lubrication theory coupled with analytical models for viscosity and density of air-oil mixture in fluid-film bearing. Convection to the walls and mixing with supply oil and re-circulating oil are considered. With changing eccentricity ratio, it is investigated the effects of air bubbles on the performance of a high-speed plain journal bearing. Just at the moderate eccentricity ratios, even if the involved aeration levels are not so severe and the entrained air bubble sizes are not so small, it is found that the bearing load and friction force may be changed so visibly for the high speed bearing operation.

  • This paper presents a simulation model of a double-acting high-speed pneumatic cylinder with a relief valve type cushion mechanism. The model predicts piston motion, mass flow rate, pressure and temperature time histories of cushion chamber. Of interest here is to investigate the cushioning effect of varying the piston and piston-rod diameter, cushion ring diameter and length, and stoke in cushion mechanism. As a result, this cushion mechanism is found to be adequate under high-speed driving of pneumatic cylinders. The simulation model proposed here will be very useful to analyze the dynamic characteristics and to improve or design the better cushion mechanism in high-speed pneumatic cushion cylinders.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the thermal and hydrodynamic characteristics of the channel in corrugated plate type heat exchangers numerically. Numerical work has been conducted using the Reynolds Stress Model(RSM) by utilizing the commercial finite-volume code, FLUENT. Based on this model, the dependence of heat transfer and friction factor on geometrical parameters have been investigated. It is found that larger corrugation angle give higher values of heat transfer coefficients and friction factors. As the reynolds number increases, the heat transfer coefficient also increases. It is also observed that the heat transfer coefficient reaches maximum while the friction factor stays relatively low at same corrugation angle. Through the analysis, it is found that the optimum corrugation angle for the heat exchanger performance exists. It is noted that the flow repulsions at the contact point of the two fluid streams make the low mixing more active for larger corrugation angle and high reynolds number.

As development of the analysis method using computer, recently. It have been applied to the 3-dimensional hot extrusion process with complex section area of the non-steady statement and then results of the analysis have been applied to optimal die design and process design. As the result, this paper confirmed that used extrusion die of the research is satisfactorily designed to dimensional accuracy. And the stress point of view, condenser tube confirmed that it was influenced by the flow pressure of alternative regrigerants.

  • The computational fluid dynamics software FLUENT is used to calculate and compare the hydrodynamic performance of the propeller-rudder system of a 42-m trawler, which is installed with a ducted propeller. The effects of rudder on the hydrodynamic performance of the ducted propeller and the wake flow behind the propeller are firstly investigated. In addition, the different rudder angles are also considered to further study the performance of this system.

  • In recent years, there's been strong demand for seawalls that havea gentle slope and permeability that serveswater affinity and disaster prevention from wave attack. The aim of this study is to examine wave transformation, including wave run-up that propagates on the coastal structures. A numerical model based on the weak nonlinear dispersive Boussinesq equation, together with the unsteady nonlinear Darcy law for fluid motion in permeable layer, is developed. The applicability of this numerical model is examined through Deguchi and Moriwaki's hydraulic model test on the permeable slopes. From this study, it is found that the proposed numerical model can predict wave transformation and run-up on the gentle slope with a permeable layer, but can't show accurate results for slopes steeper than about 1:10.
