Purpose : For the research of Boron Neutron Capture Therapy (BNCT), fast neutrons generated from the MC-50 cyclotron with maximum energy of 34.4 MeV in Korea Cancer Center Hospital were moderated by 70 cm paraffin and then the dose characteristics were investigated. Using these results, we hope to establish the protocol about dose measurement of epi-thermal neutron, to make a basis of dose characteristic of epi-thermal neutron emitted from nuclear reactor, and to find feasibility about accelerator-based BNCT. Method and Materials : For measuring the absorbed dose and dose distribution of fast neutron beams, we used Unidos 10005 (PTW, Germany) electrometer and IC-17 (Far West, USA), IC-18, ElC-1 ion chambers manufactured by A-150 plastic and used IC-l7M ion chamber manufactured by magnesium for gamma dose. There chambers were flushed with tissue equivalent gas and argon gas and then the flow rate was S co per minute. Using Monte Carlo N-Particle (MCNP) code, transport program in mixed field with neutron, photon, electron, two dimensional dose and energy fluence distribution was calculated and there results were compared with measured results. Results : The absorbed dose of fast neutron beams was $6.47\times10^{-3}$ cGy per 1 MU at the 4 cm depth of the water phantom, which is assumed to be effective depth for BNCT. The magnitude of gamma contamination intermingled with fast neutron beams was $65.2{\pm}0.9\%$ at the same depth. In the dose distribution according to the depth of water, the neutron dose decreased linearly and the gamma dose decreased exponentially as the depth was deepened. The factor expressed energy level, $D_{20}/D_{10}$, of the total dose was 0.718. Conclusion : Through the direct measurement using the two ion chambers, which is made different wall materials, and computer calculation of isodose distribution using MCNP simulation method, we have found the dose characteristics of low fluence fast neutron beams. If the power supply and the target material, which generate high voltage and current, will be developed and gamma contamination was reduced by lead or bismuth, we think, it may be possible to accelerator-based BNCT.
A Varian Portal Dosimetry system was compared to an isocentrically mounted MapCHECK 2 diode array for volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT) QA. A Varian TrueBeam STx with an aS-1000 digital imaging panel was used to acquire VMAT QA images for 13 plans using four photon energies (6, 8, 10 and 15 MV). The EPID-based QA images were compared to the Portal Dose Image Prediction calculated in the Varian Eclipse treatment planning system (TPS). An isocentrically mounted Sun Nuclear MapCHECK 2 diode array with 5 cm water-equivalent buildup was also used for the VMAT QAs and the measurements were compared to a composite dose plane from the Eclipse TPS. A ${\gamma}$ test was implemented in the Sun Nuclear Patient software with 10% threshold and absolute comparison at 1%/1 mm (dose difference/distance-to-agreement), 2%/2 mm, and 3%/3 mm criteria for both QA methods. The two-tailed paired Student's t-test was employed to analyze the statistical significance at 95% confidence level. The average ${\gamma}$ passing rates were greater than 95% at 3%/3 mm using both methods for all four energies. The differences in the average passing rates between the two methods were within 1.7% and 1.6% of each other when analyzed at 2%/2 mm and 3%/3 mm, respectively. The EPID passing rates were somewhat better than the MapCHECK 2 when analyzed at 1%/1 mm; the difference was lower for 8 MV and 10 MV. However, the differences were not statistically significant for all criteria and energies (p-values >0.05). The EPID-based QA showed large off-axis over-response and dependence of ${\gamma}$ passing rate on energy, while the MapCHECK 2 was susceptible to the MLC tongue-and-groove effect. The two fluence-based QA techniques can be an alternative tool of VMAT QA to each other, if the limitations of each QA method (mechanical sag, detector response, and detector alignment) are carefully considered.
Nano-sized ZrVFe alloy powders were prepared by the ablation of powder compact in alcobol using a Nd-YAG pulsed Laser. The $Zr_{57}V_{35.}8Fe_{7.2}$ alloy commercially designated as ST707 has long been known as the ideal solution for various vacuum applications. The target for the ablation was sintered pellets of $Zr_{57}V_{35.}8Fe_{7.2}$ alloy powder. The alloy was prepared by arc melting and Hydride-DeHydride method. The ablated powders were mostly circular having fairly large size distribution smaller than 200 nm in all cases. The X-ray diffraction study revealed that the ablated alloy retained the crystal structure of the target alloy. Nevertheless, Fe and V contents in the ablated powder were lower than those in the target alloy. This was believed to result from the high vapour pressures of Fe and V compared to that of Zr. The size of the powders ablated at high energy fluence tends to decrease due at least partly to the breakdown of previously made ones.
Abstract The effect of final heat treatment and welding on the irradiation growth of Zircaloy-4 was investigated. As a simulation for neurtron irradiation, accelerated proton beam with the energy of 3.5MeV was used up to the proton fluence of 9.8 ${\times}{10^{21}}$p/$m^2$ in the present study. It was found that irradiation growth of the annealed specimen was the highest and that of the ${\beta}$-quenched specimen was the samllest among the present specimens. The magnitude of irradiation growth of the present specimens decreased by welding. The difference in the magnitude of irradiation growth of the present specimens with different final heat treatment and the effect of welding on it were quantitatively analyzed in terms of crystallographic texture by using Kearns number, f, which was calculated from the x-ray diffraction data.
The conversion coefficients of effective dose per unit air kerma and equivalent dose per unit fluence were calculated by MCNP4A code for antero-posterior(AP) and postero- anterior(PA) incidence of broad, unidirectional beams of photons into anthropomorphic MIRD phantom. Calculations have been performed for 20 monoenergetic photons of energy ranging from 0.03 to 10 MeV. The conversion coefficients showed a good agreement with the corresponding values given in the draft publication of joint task group of ICRP and ICRU within 10%. The deviations may arise from the differences of geometry in the MIRD phantom and the ADAM/EVE phantoms, and the differences in the codes and cross-section data used. Inclusion of a specific oesophagus model results in effective dose slightly different(5% at most) from the effective doses obtained by adopting the equivalent doses for the thymus or pancreas. Deletion of the ULI from the remainder organ appeared not to be significant for the cases of photon dosimetry covered in this study.
The interaction of ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH) with zircaloy-4 (Zry-4) was investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) methods. In order to study the surface chemistry of NH4OH/Zry-4 system, the binding energies of N1s, O1s and Zr3d electrons were monitored. The N1s peak intensity was remarkably increased by following cycles of Ar+ sputtering of NH4OH dosed Zry-4 surface at room temperature. Because the nitrogen stayed under the subsurface region was diffused out onto the Zry-4 surface after oxygen concentration was decreased. These could be occurred after the surface oxygen was diffused into the bulk or desorbed out from the surface until Ar+ fluence was 6.0 × 1016 Ar+/cm2 then the surface was relatively atomic deficient state. The O1s peak intensity was decreased by stepwise Ar+ sputtering. After many cycles of Ar+ sputtering, the peak intensities of Zr3d peaks did not change much but the shape of the peak clearly did change. This implies that the oxidation state of zirconium was changed during stepwise Ar+ sputtering of NH4OH/Zry-4. The Zr3d peak intensity of zirconium nitride (ZrNx) increased as the intensity of N1s (from zirconium nitride) increased but the Zr3d peak intensity of zirconium oxide (ZrOx) decreased due to the depopulation of the oxygen species on the surface region. We also observed that the peak intensity of Zr4+ was nearly same after Ar+ sputtering processes but the peak intensity of metallic zirconium increased compared to that of before the sputtering process was performed.

Patient dose verification is one of the most important parts in quality assurance of the treatment delivery for radiation therapy. The dose distributions may be meaningfully improved by modulating two dimensional intensity profile of the individual high energy radiation beams In this study, a new method is presented for the pre-treatment dosimetric verification of these two dimensional distributions of beam intensity by means of a charge coupled device video camera-based fluoroscopic device (henceforth called as CCD-VCFD) as a radiation detecter with a custom-made software for dose calculation from fluorescence signals. This system of dosimeter (CCD-VCFD) could reproduce three dimensional (3D) relative dose distribution from the digitized fluoroscopic signals for small (1.0$\times$1.0 cm$^2$ square, ø 1.0 cm circular ) and large (30$\times$30cm$^2$) field sizes used in intensity modulated radiation therapy (IMRT). For the small beam sizes of photon and electron, the calculations are performed In absolute beam fluence profiles which are usually used for calculation of the patient dose distribution. The good linearity with respect to the absorbed dose, independence of dose rate, and three dimensional profiles of small beams using the CCD-VCFD were demonstrated by relative measurements in high energy Photon (15 MV) and electron (9 MeV) beams. These measurements of beam profiles with CCD-VCFD show good agreement with those with other dosimeters such as utramicro-cylindrical (UC) ionization chamber and radiographic film. The study of the radiation dosimetric technique using CCD-VCFD may provide a fast and accurate pre-treatment verification tool for the small beam used in stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and can be used for verification of dose distribution from dynamic multi-leaf collimation system (DMLC).
Purpose: The management of urethral defect represents one of the most challenging clinical problems in uroplastic surgery. Especially for defect after Fournier's Gangrene, optimal management is still a hard problem. During extensive urethral reconstruction, to overcome the poor vascularity due to periurethral scarred tissue and limitation of the choice of local flap, we report our experience with one-stage reconstruction of urethral defect using a longitudinal tubed flap of scrotal skin. Methods: A 72-year-old man with several years of diabetes mellitus history visited for swelling and pain of scrotal area. After diagnosis of Fournier's Gangrene, radical debridement was performed and 6 cm of urethral defect on border of penile-scrotal ventral area was made. Rectangular scrotal skin flap ($6{\times}2.5\;cm$) based on external spermatic fascia was elevated and tubed longitudinally. After transfer the flap to the defect area, end-to-end anastomosis was performed bilaterally. Results: 4 weeks after the operation, the patient started voiding him-self and urethrography showed good fluence of contrast agent. Long term evaluation reveals stable performance characteristics without any complications. Conclusion: We suggest a one-stage reconstruction of extensive urethral defect using a longitudinal tubed flap of scrotal skin. Advantages of this procedures are simple, one-stage reconstruction with the reliable scrotal skin flap based on external spermatic fascial vasculature, and no donor morbidity.

Femto-second laser ablation with the various feed velocities of the Invar alloy and the micro surface milling for the processing condition were studied. We used a regenerative amplified Ti:sapphire laser with a 1kHz repetition rate, 184fs pulse duration time and 785nm wavelength. Femto-second laser pulse was irradiated on the Invar alloy with the air blowing at the condition of various laser peak powers and feed velocities. An ablation characteristic according to feed velocity of the Invar alloy was appeared as the non-linear type at different zone of energy fluence. The micro surface milling of the Invar alloy using a mapping method was investigated. The optimal condition of micro surface milling was laser peak power of 22.8mW, feed velocity of 1 mm/s, beam gap of $1{\mu}m$. With the optimal processing condition, the fine rectangular shape without burr and thermal damage was achieved. Using the femto-second laser system, it demonstrates excellent tool for micro surface milling of the Invar alloy without heat effects and poor edge.
The behavior of the correction factor associated with the collimator opening(head-scatter factor) were investigated for the 6MV x-ray beams of medical linear accelerator. The primary photon fluence was measured in air quasi-small fied size. Consideration in this study was given to the effect of head scatter factor with quasi-small fied size, the upper and lower collimator jaw scatter collection factors of quasi-small field (4-10cm) were measured with ion chamber. In general, the wedge factors which are used clinical practics are ignored of dependency on field sizes and depth. In wedge factors for each wedge filter were measured at various depth by using 6MV X-ray. In this present we inverstigated systematically the depth and field sizes dependency to determine the absorbed dose more accurately. Head scatter(upper-lower collimator jaw)appears to be (1) a small effect, less than 5% over the range of clinical field sizes (2) generated primarily at the flattening filter and therefored influenced most by the upper collimator setting.
