Concrete strength relationship between various strength properties was presented through experimental data from concretes made from different sources of coarse aggregates and fine aggregates, and different amount of cement contents. In the strength relationship were included compression-flexure, compression-split tension, compression-modulus and flexure-split tension. A total of 61~81 data sets were analyzed while each data set is composed of 3 to 4 experimental test data. Using the proposed strength relations, a procedure to reliably estimate modulus values from the LTPP field test section was suggested. Core specimens were taken from 10 LTPP sections on the expressway as well as 4 sections on the national road. Then compressive strengths and modulus were determined in the lab. Finally concrete modulus was averaged with the estimated values by using the derived relationship and experimental values.

This study presents similarities and differences between Turkish Building Code for Steel Structures, which are TS 648 and SDCCSS (Specification for Design, Calculation and Construction of Steel Structures) in terms of the design of the members. Hot-rolled I-shaped steel sections for symmetrical and U-shaped steel sections (i.e., channels) for monosymmetric sections were elaborated in detail. The design strength of tension members under tensile load, compression members under axial load and flexural members under flexure and shear were examined separately. Connection details for tension members, slenderness for compression members and distance between lateral supports for flexural members were considered as prime variables. Analysis results revealed the design strength of the tension members where at least one of the cross-sectional parts is not connected to the connection plates, I-shaped compression members where a slenderness ratio is below 39 (𝛌<39), U-shaped compression members and flexural members where Lb is between Lp and Lr (Lpb≤Lr) designed based on TS 648 are greater than those designed based on SDCCSS 2018. Strength differences between the specification can reach 79% for tensile members, 13% for compression members and 9% for flexural members.

Structural characteristics of concrete filled glass fiber reinforced composite pile was studied. Confinement model of composite pile was derived from experimental data, and numerical method to find P-M diagram of composite pile was developed. The flexure-compression test results were compared with analytical P-M diagram and it is demonstrated that they agree well each other. Utilizing these results, pilot composite pile was designed fabricated, and flexural test were conducted,
This study aims at developing a torsional strength model based on a nonlinear analysis method presented in the previous studies. To this end, flexural neutral axis depth of a reinforced concrete section and effective thickness of an idealized thin-walled tube were formulated based on reasonable approximations. In addition, various sectional force components, such as shear, flexure, axial compression, and torsional moment, were considered in estimating torsional strength by addressing a simple and linear strain profile. Existing test results were collected from literature for verifications by comparing with those estimated from the proposed model. On this basis, it can be confirmed that the proposed model can evaluate the torsional strength of RC members subjected to combined loads with a good level of accuracy, and it also well captured inter-related mechanisms between shear, bending moment, axial compression, and torsion.

In this study, a quantitative analysis technique for the damage process of reinforced concrete beams under repeated shear loading is proposed, which can express the progressively increasing strain and stiffness reduction. The analysis technique is mainly based on the modified compression field theory and scalar damage concept. which describe the strain and stress configuration in the shear zone by considering the 2-dimensional effect, and express the degradation of principal compressive strut by cyclic strain increment, secant modulus decrement, and modifying the parabolic stress strain relationship. The analysis of the response of RC beams under repeated shear-flexure loading has been carried out and compared with the experimental results. The present theory may efficiently be used to evaluate the deflection and strain accumulation under repeated loadings.
In order to evaluate the effect of hybrid fibers on the flexural performance of tunnel segment at room temperature, twelve reinforced self-consolidating concrete (SCC) symmetric inclination beams containing steel fiber, macro polypropylene fiber, micro polypropylene fiber, and their hybridizations were studied under combined loading of flexure and axial compression. The results indicate that the addition of mono steel fiber and hybrid fibers can enhance the ultimate bearing capacity and cracking behavior of tested beams. These improvements can be further enhanced along with increasing the content of steel fiber and macro PP fiber, but reduced with the increase of the reinforcement ratio of beams. The hybrid effect of steel fiber and macro PP fiber was the most obvious. However, the addition of micro PP fibers led to a degradation to the flexural performance of reinforced beams at room temperature. Meanwhile, the hybrid use of steel fiber and micro polypropylene fiber didn't present an obvious improvement to SCC beams. Compared to micro polypropylene fiber, the macro polypropylene fiber plays a more prominent role on affecting the structural behavior of SCC beams. A calculation method for ultimate bearing capacity of flexural SCC symmetric inclination beams at room temperature by taking appropriate effect of hybrid fibers into consideration was proposed. The prediction results using the proposed model are compared with the experimental data in this study and other literature. The results indicate that the proposed model can estimate the ultimate bearing capacity of SCC symmetric inclination beams containing hybrid fibers subjected to combined action of flexure and axial compression at room temperature.

This study is a fundamental research in order to establish the design code of recycled aggregate concrete structure. The structural properties of recycled aggregate concrete such as flexure, shear, fatigue, compression, and bond development are experimentally investigated and confirmed. In this study, laboratory-scale reinforced concrete beam, column, and pull-out test specimens using recycled coarse aggregate are manufactured. Then, the structural performances of recycled aggregate concrete according to replacement ratios of recycled coarse aggregate are evaluated. Also, finite element analysis using commercial code DIANA is carried out to predict the test results and the analysis results are compared with test results in this study. Structural test results showed that the structural performances of recycled aggregate concrete specimens with 60% replacement ratio are reduced by approximately 15-20%. These results indicated that the replacement ratio of recycled coarse aggregate within 30% is a suitable to use for structural members. The results of finite element analysis showed that the specimens with 30% replacement ratio possessed similar or more excellent structural performance than normal concrete specimens. However, recycled aggregate concrete with 60% replacement ratio of recycled coarse aggregate must be carefully considered for structural applications due to significant decrease of the failure loads.
T-shaped column is usually used as side column in buildings, which is one of the weak members in structural system. This paper presented a quasi-static cyclic loading experiment of six specimens of reinforced concrete (RC) T-shaped columns under compression-flexure-shear-torsion combined loadings to investigate the effect in the ratio of torsion to moment (T/M) and axial compression ratio (n) and height-thickness ratio of flange plate (φ) on their seismic performance. Based on the test results, the failure characteristics, hysteretic curves, ductility, energy dissipation, stiffness degradation and strength degradation were analyzed. The results show that the failure characteristics of RC T-shaped columns mainly depend on the ratio of torsion to moment, which can be divided into bending failure, bending-torsion failure and shear-torsion failure. With the increase of T/M ratio, the torsion ductility coefficient increased, and in a suitable range, the torsion and horizontal displacement ductility coefficient of RC T-shaped columns could be effectively improved with the increase of axial compression ratio and the decrease of height-thickness ratio of flange plate. Besides, the energy dissipation capacity of the specimens mainly depended on the bending and shear energy dissipation capacity. On the other hand, the increase of axial compression ratio and the ratio of torsion to moment could accelerate the torsional and bending stiffness degradation of RC T-shaped columns. Moreover, the degradation coefficient of torsion strength was between 0.80 and 0.98, and that of bending strength was between 0.75 and 1.00.

Optimization of the aircraft panel assembly constructed by skin and stringers is investigated. For the design of panel assembly of the aircraft structure, it is necessary to determine the best shape of the stringer which accomplishes lowest weight under the condition of no instability. A panel assembly can fail in a variety of instability modes under compression. Overall modes of flexure or torsion can occur and these can interact in a combined flexural/torsion mode. Flexure and torsion can occur symmetrically or anti-symmetrically. Local instabilities can also occur. The local instabilities considered in this paper are buckling of the free and attached flanges, the stiffener web and the inter-rivet buckling. A program is developed to find out critical load for each instability mode at the specific stringer shape. Based on the developed program, optimization is performed to find optimum stringer shape. The developed instability analysis program is not adequate for sensitivity analysis, therefore RSM (Response Surface Method) is utilized instead to model weight and instability constraints. Since the problem has many local minimum, Genetic algorithm is utilized to find global optimum.

A remediation technique for buried pipeline system subject to permanent ground deformation is proposed. Specifically, EPS (expanded polystyrene) geofoam blocks are used as low density backfill, thereby reducing soil restraint and pipeline strains. In order to evaluate this remediation technique, a series of 12 centrifuge model tests with HDPE pipe were performed. The amount or spatial extent of the low density backfill was varied, as well as the orientation of the pipe with respect to the fault offset. Specifically, in the $-63.5^{\circ}$ test, the orientation was such that the pipe was placed in flexure and axial tension. The $-85^{\circ}$ orientation placed the pipe mainly in flexure. In all cases, the behavior of the remediated pipe was compared to that for the unremediated pipe. The geofoam backfill was successful in improving pipe behavior for two of the three pipe/fault orientations. However, for the $60^{\circ}$ orientation, the pipe buckled in compression irrespective of the geofoam backfill.
