Electrical properties of graphene-based field effect transistors (G-FETs) can be degraded in ambient conditions owing to physisorbed oxygen or water molecules on the graphene surface. Passivation technique is one of a fascinating strategy for fabrication of G-FETs, which allows to sustain electrical properties of graphene in the long term without disrupting its inherent properties: transparency, flexibility and thinness. Ironically, despite its importance in producing high performance graphene devices, this method has been much less studied compared to patterning or device fabrication processes. Here we report a novel surface passivation method by using atomically thin self-assembled alkane layers such as C18- NH2, C18-Br and C36 to prevent unintentional doping effects that can suppress the degradation of electrical properties. In each passivated device, we observe a shift in charge neutral point to near zero gate voltage and it maintains the device performance for 1 year. In addition, the fabricated PG-FETs on a plastic substrate with ion-gel gate dielectrics exhibit not only mechanical flexibility but also long-term stability in ambient conditions. Therefore, we believe that these highly transparent and ultra-thin passivation layers can become a promising candidate in a wide range of graphene based electronic applications.
This paper proposes a novel UPQC(unified power quality conditioner) based on H-bridge modules, isolated through single-phase multi-winding transformers. The dynamic performance of proposed system was analyzed by simulation with EMTDC/PSCAD, assuming that the UPQC is connected with the 22.9kV distribution line. The proposed system can be directly connected to the transmission line without series injection transformers. It has flexibility in expanding the operation voltage by increasing the number of H-bridge modules and can compensate reactive power, harmonics, voltage sag and swell, voltage unbalance. The control strategy for the proposing UPQC was derived using the instantaneous power method. The proposing UPQC has the ultimate capability of improving power quality at the point of installation on power distribution systems and can be utilized for the future distribution system.

The present work is an alternative methodology in order to balance a nonlinear highly flexible rotor by using neural networks. This procedure was developed aiming at improving the performance of classical balancing methods, which are developed in the context of linearity between acting forces and resulting displacements and are not well adapted to these situations. In this paper a fully experimental procedure using neural networks is implemented for dealing with the adaptive balancing of nonlinear rotors. The nonlinearity results from the large displacements measured due to the high flexibility of the foundation. A neural network based meta-model was developed to represent the system. The initialization of the learning procedure of the network is performed by using the influence coefficient method and the adaptive balancing strategy is prone to converge rapidly to a satisfactory solution. The methodology is tested successfully experimentally.

We propose an extension to Prolog called the count term for controlling Prolog execution. The purpose is to allow the programmers as well as the users to have greater flexibility in controlling the execution behavior of Prolog programs and for limiting the number of answers or proofs retrieved when Prolog is used as a database query language. Both syntax and operational semantics of the count term are defined. An implementation strategy based on WAM (Warren Abstract Machine) by modifying instructions related to backtracking behavior has been suggested.
This paper uses a new method to improve the performance criterion of an active suspension car. The used control strategy is based on robust H$_{\infty}$ control theory taking into consideration the chasis flexibility. It will be shown that the modeling errors can be lumped into an unstructured uncertainty and the robust controller designed in the presence of these perturbations could maintain the stability and performance even for the controlled true system..

Nowadays, the interest of aerospace and automotive industries on virtual testing of medium-frequency vibrational behavior of shallow shell structures is growing. The development of software capable of predicting the vibrational response in such frequency range is still an open question because classical methods (i.e., FEM, SEA) are not fully suitable for the medium-frequency bandwidth. In this context the Variational Theory of Complex Rays (VTCR) is taking place as an ad-hoc technique to address medium-frequency problems. It is a Trefftz method based on a weak variational formulation. It allows great flexibility because any shape function that satisfies the governing equations can be used. This work further develops such theory. In particular, orthotropic materials are introduced in the VTCR formulation for shallow shell structures. A significant numerical example is proposed to show the strategy.

While forecasting sales of a new product is very difficult, it is critical to market success. This is especially true when other products have a highly negative influence on the product because of competition effect. In this paper, we develop a choice-based competitive diffusion model and apply to the case where two digital mobile telecommunication services, that is, digital cellular and PCS services, compete. The basic premise is that demand patterns result from choice behavior, where customers choose a product to maximize their utility. In comparison with Bass-type competitive diffusion models, our model provides superior fitting and forecasting performance. The choice-based model is useful in that it enables the description of such competitive environments and provides the flexibility to include marketing mix variables such as price and advertising.
The purpose of this study is to identify the relationships among purposes and contents of smart factory building and continuous utilization of smart factory. Specifically, this study identifies two types of purposes of smart factory building as follows: (1) improving productivity, (2) increasing flexibility. In this study, three aspects of smart factory building contents were suggested like this: (1) automation area (facility automation vs. work automation), (2) big data system focus (radical transformation vs. incremental improvement), and (3) value chain integration area (internal value chain integration vs. external value chain integration). In addition, we looked at how firm size moderates the purposes - contents - continuous utilization of smart factory relationship. A questionnaire survey was conducted on 151 manufacturing companies. More specifically, out of 151 companies, 100 are small-and-medium-sized enterprises and 51 large-sized enterprises. All questionnaires were targeted at companies with Smart Factory level above level 2. The analysis results of this study using Smart PLS statistical programs are as follows. First, the purposes of smart factory building including increasing productivity and flexibility had positive impacts on all of the contents of smart factory building. Second, all of smart factory building contents had positive impacts on the continuous use of smart factory except big data system for incremental improvement of manufacturing process. Third, the impacts of smart factory building purposes implementation on smart factory building contents varied depending on whether the purpose is productivity improvement or flexibility. Fourth, it was founded that firm size moderated the relationships of purposes - contents - continuous utilization of smart factory in such a way that large-sized firms tend to empathize the link between flexibility and smart factory building contents for continuous use of smart factory, while small-and-medium-sized-firms emphasizing the link between productivity and smart factory building contents. Most of the previous studies have focused on presenting current smart factory deployment cases. However, it is believed that this research has made a theoretical contribution in this field in that it established and verified a research model for the smart factory building strategy. Based on the findings from a working-level perspective, corporate practitioners also need to have a different approach to smart factory building, which should be emphasized depending on whether their purpose of building smart factory is to increase productivity or flexibility. In particular, since the results of this study identify the moderating effect of firm size, it is deemed necessary for firms to implement a smart factory building strategy suitable for their firm size.

The Ω-loop is a nonregular and flexible structure that plays an important role in molecular recognition, protein folding, and thermostability. In the present study, molecular dynamics simulation was carried out to assess the molecular stability and flexibility profile of the porcine trypsin structures. Two Ω-Loops (fragment 57-67 and fragment 78-91) were confirmed to represent the flexible region. Subsequently, glycosylation site-directed mutations (A73S, N84S, and R104S) were introduced within the Ω-loop region and its wing chain based on its potential N-glycosylation sites (Asn-Xaa-Ser/Thr consensus sequences) and structure information to improve the thermostability of trypsin. The result demonstrated that the half-life of the N84S mutant at 50℃ increased by 177.89 min when compared with that of the wild-type enzyme. Furthermore, the significant increase in the thermal stability of the N84S mutant has also been proven by an increase in the Tm values determined by circular dichroism. Additionally, the optimum temperatures of the wild-type enzyme and the N84S mutant were 75℃ and 80℃, respectively. In conclusion, we obtained the thermostability-improved enzyme N84S mutant, and the strategy used to design this mutant based on its structural information and N-linked glycosylation modification could be applied to engineer other enzymes to meet the needs of the biotechnological industry.
The dynamic cast operation allows flexibility in the design and use of data management facilities in object-oriented programs. Dynamic cast has an important role in the implementation of the Data Management Services (DMS) of the Mission Data System Project (MDS), the Jet Propulsion Laboratory's experimental work for providing a state-based and goal-oriented unified architecture for testing and development of mission software. DMS is responsible for the storage and transport of control and scientific data in a remote autonomous spacecraft. Like similar operators in other languages, the C++ dynamic cast operator does not provide the timing guarantees needed for hard real-time embedded systems. In a recent study, Gibbs and Stroustrup (G&S) devised a dynamic cast implementation strategy that guarantees fast constant-time performance. This paper presents the definition and application of a cosimulation framework to formally verify and evaluate the G&S fast dynamic casting scheme and its applicability in the Mission Data System DMS application. We describe the systematic process of model-based simulation and analysis that has led to performance improvement of the G&S algorithm's heuristics by about a factor of 2. In this work we introduce and apply a library for extracting semantic information from C++ source code that helps us deliver a practical and verifiable implementation of the fast dynamic casting algorithm.
