교류전기장이 인가된 전선을 통해 전파하는 화염에 있어서 기울어진 각도가 미치는 영향에 대한 실험적 연구 (Experimental Study on effect of inclination angle for Spreading Flame over Wire with AC Electric Fields)

  • An experimental study on downwardly and upwardly spreading flames over slanted electrical wire, which is insulated by Polyethylene(PE), was conducted with applied AC electric field. The result showed that downwardly and upwardly spreading flames with angle of inclination leaned toward burnt side and unburned side, respectively. With applied AC electric fields, size of downwardly spreading flame decreased slightly and that of upwardly spreading flame increased significantly. Flame spread rate showed various trends in terms of inclination, applied voltage and frequency.

  • Stability of laminar premixed planar flames inclined in gravitational field which generate vorticity is asymptotically examined. The flame structure is resolved by a large activation energy asymptotics and a long wave approximation. The coupling between hydrodynamics and diffusion processes is included and near-unity Lewis number is assumed. The results show that as the flame is more inclined from the horizontal plane it becomes more unstable due to not only the decrease of stabilizing effect of gravity but also the increase of destabilizing effect of rotational flow. The obtained dispersion relation involves the Prandtl number and shows the destabilizing effect of viscosity. The analysis predicts that the phase velocity of unstable flame wave depends on not only the flame angle but also the Lewis number. For relatively short wave disturbances, still much larger than flame thickness, the most unstable wavelength is nearly independent on the flame angle and the flame can be stabilized by gravity and diffusion mechanism.

확대유로내의 Bluff-Body 후류확산화염의 구조 및 특성 (1) (Structure and Characteristics of Diffusion Flame behind a Bluff-Body in a Divergent Flow(I))

  • An experimental study is carried out on turbulent diffusion flames stabilized by a circular cylinder in a divergent duct flow. A commercial grade gaseous propane is injected from two slits on the rod as fuel. Flame stability limits, as well as size and temperrature of recirculation zone, are measured by direct and schlieren photographs to clarify the characteristics and structure of diffusion flames and to assess the effect of various divergent angle of duct. The results of the present study are as follows. Temperature in the recirculation zone decreases with increasing divergent angle. The blow-off velocity in parallel duct is higher than that in divergent duct. Critical blow-off velocity is expected to be about 8-12 degree through blow-off velocity pattern. Regardless of divergent angles, the length of recirculation zone is nearly constant, and this length becomes longer with rod diameter. Pressure gradient has an effect on the eddy structure in shear layer behind the rod. With the increase of divergent angle, large scale eddies by dissipated energy in shear layer are split into small scale eddies, and the flame becomes a typical distributedreacting flame.

Bluff Body 후류에 형성되는 확산화염의 보염특성에 관한 연구 (A study on the stabilization characteristics of the diffusion flame formed behind a bluff body)

  • The stability of diffusion flame formed behind a bluff body with fuel injection slits was experimentally investigated in various fuel injection angles, fuel injection ratios, grids and extension ducts. The flame stability limits, temperature distributions and length of recirculation zones, direct photographs of flames were measured in order to discuss the stabilization mechanism of the diffusion flame. The results from this study are as follows. The fuel injection angle is an important factor in determining the flame stability. Stability limits can be improved by variety of the fuel injection ratio. When the grid and extension duct are set, stability characteristics are varied with the blockage ratios, grid intervals, and grid numbers. The recirculation zone not only serves as a steady ignition source of combustion stream but also governs the stabilization mechanism.

난류예혼합화염이 음파의 산란에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 (The Effect of Turbulent Premixed Flame on the Wave Scattering)

  • Analytical investigation of acoustic wave scattering from turbulent premixed flames was conducted to evaluate the acoustic energy amplification/damping. Such acoustic energy change is attributed to the acoustic velocity jump due to flame's heat release. Small perturbation method up to second order and stochastic analysis were utilized to formulate net acoustic energy and the energy transfer from coherent to incoherent energy. Randomly wrinkled flame surface is responsible for the energy transfer from coherent to incoherent field. Nondimensional parameters that govern net acoustic energy were determined: rms height and correlation length of flame front, incident wave frequency, incidence angle, and temperature ratio. The dependence of net acoustic energy upon these parameters is illustrated by numerical simulations in case of Gaussian statistics of flame front. Total net energy was amplified and the major factors that affect such energy amplification are incidence angle and temperature ratio. Coherent (incoherent) energy is damped (amplified) with rms height and correlation length of flame front.

연료분출 조건에 따른 확산화염의 연소특성에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Combustion Characteristics of Diffusion Flame with the Fuel Injection Condition)

  • 본 연구에서는 연료분출각의 변화에 따라 보염기(cylindrical stabilizer) 후류에 형성되는 확산화염의 화염 안정성, 재순환영역의 길이 및 온도, 보염기 후류의 난류강도 분포, 재순환영역의 연소가스 농도 등을 측정하고, 화염의 직접사진 및 슐리렌사진을 촬영하여 확산화염의 연소특성을 고찰하였다. 화염안정성은 연료분출각과 주류공기 유속의 영향을 받으며, 재순환영역의 길이와 온도는 연료분출각의 영향을 받았다. 재순환영역의 길이가 짧고 온도가 낮을수록 화염안정성이 양호하지만, 연료분출각의 변화에 따른 난류강도 분포에는 별로 차이가 없었다. 재순환영역 내 미연가스 농도가 높고 이산화탄소 농도가 낮은 경우, 화염안정성은 양호하지만 연소상태는 불량한 것으로 나타났다. 연소효율, 고부하 출력, 대기환경, 연료의 청정연소조건 등을 고려하여 적절한 연료분출각을 선정함으로써 양호한 연소조건을 유지할 수 있다.

  • In plasma jet ignition, combustion enhancement effects occur toward the plasma jet issuing direction. Therefore, when the igniter is attached at the center of a cylindrically shaped combustion chamber, plasma jet should issue toward the round combustion chamber wall. The plasma jet igniter that had an annular circular orifice has been developed. The purpose of this study is to elucidate the relationship between the newly developed plasma Jet igniter configuration and combustion enhancement effects. In this newly developed plasma Jet igniter, flame front wrinkle appears on the flame front and flame propagates rapidly. Plasma Jet influences on the flame propagation far long period when the plasma jet igniter has issuing angle 90 degrees and large cavity volume, because the plasma jet only lasts several ms. However, in the early stage of combustion, flame front area of issuing angle 45 degrees is larger than that of 90 degrees, because the initial flame kernel is formed by the plasma jet.

  • Flame pattern in burner used in steel industry that constitutes 30% of country energy consumption is generally characterized as long narrow flame pattern so that localized heating causes product quality worse and many burners are needed for proper heating. This paper deals with flat wide flame pattern which has advantage in terms of uniform heating using less number of burners. For that purpose, impinging jet system of fuel and oxidant was used for making flat wide flame. Results show that nozzle angle $75^{\circ}$ of impinging jet is found to be optimum configuration for making effective wide flame which has uniform radiation heat transfer and flame temperature is also most uniform along the flame width for that nozzle angle.

  • In this work, in-cylinder pressure measurements and high-speed direct imaging of the flame were performed in an optically accessible single cylinder diesel engine with premixed charge compression ignition combustion and a narrow injection angle. The results show that the frequency ranges of pressure ringing were 8.35 to 9 kHz and 12..2 to 13.1 kHz. The frequencies of the flame movement were shown as 8.7 kHz and 13 kHz. It was found that there is a direct relationship between the pressure ringing and the flame movement.
