Recent ultra-precision machining systems have nano-scale resolution, and can machine various shapes of complex structures using five-axis driven modules. These systems are also multi-functional, which can perform various processes such as planing, milling, turning et al. in one system. Micro machining technology using these systems is being developed for machining fine patterns, hybrid patterns and high aspect-ratio patterns on large-area molds with high productivity. These technology is and will be applied continuously to the fields of optics, display, energy, bio, communications and et al. Domestic and foreign trends of micro machining technologies for flat molds were investigated in this study. Especially, we focused on the types and the characteristics of ultra-precision machining systems and application fields of micro patterns machined by the machining system.

Development of five axis tool grinding machine and CAD/CAM systems increase tool design flexibility. In this research, investigated are cutting characteristics of ball-end mill with different helix angle. Special WC ball-end mills with $0^{\circ}$, $10^{\circ}$, $20^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$ helix angles are designed and used in various cutting tests. Machining performance according to helix angle variation is evaluated from cutting forces, surface roughness, tool wear, produced chip shape, and vibration characteristics. The ball-end mill with $10^{\circ}$ helix angle shows the best cutting performance due to appropriate chip load distribution and smooth chip flow. This research can be used for cutting edge geometry optimization and novel design of ball-end mill.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to compare machine learning models for anomaly detection of mechanical facility equipment and suggest an anomaly detection system for mechanical facility equipment in subway stations. It helps to predict failures and plan the maintenance of facility. Ultimately it aims to improve the quality of facility equipment. Methods: The data collected from Daejeon Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation was used in this experiment. The experiment was performed using Python, Scikit-learn, tensorflow 2.0 for preprocessing and machine learning. Also it was conducted in two failure states of the equipment. We compared and analyzed five unsupervised machine learning models focused on model Long Short-Term Memory Variational Autoencoder(LSTM-VAE). Results: In both experiments, change in vibration and current data was observed when there is a defect. When the rotating body failure was happened, the magnitude of vibration has increased but current has decreased. In situation of axis alignment failure, both of vibration and current have increased. In addition, model LSTM-VAE showed superior accuracy than the other four base-line models. Conclusion: According to the results, model LSTM-VAE showed outstanding performance with more than 97% of accuracy in the experiments. Thus, the quality of mechanical facility equipment will be improved if the proposed anomaly detection system is established with this model used.
PURPOSE. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of dimensional stability of splinting material on the accuracy of master casts. MATERIALS AND METHODS. A stainless steel metal model with 6 implants embedded was used as a master model. Implant level impressions were made after square impression copings were splinted using 5 different techniques as follows. (1) Splinted with autopolymerizing resin and sectioned, reconnected to compensate polymerization shrinkage before the impression procedure. (2) Splinted with autopolymerizing resin just before impression procedure. (3) Primary impression made with impression plaster and secondary impression were made over with polyether impression material. (4) Splinted with impression plaster. (5) Splinted with VPS bite registration material. From master model, 5 impressions and 5 experimental casts, total 25 casts were made for each of 5 splinting methods. The distortion values of each splinting methods were measured using coordinate measuring machine, capable of recordings in the x-, y-, z- axes. A one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) at a confidence level of 95% was used to evaluate the data and Tukey's studentized range test was used to determine significant differences between the groups. RESULTS. Group 1 showed best accuracy followed by Group 3 & 4. Group 2 and 5 showed relatively larger distortion value than other groups. No significant difference was found between group 3, 4, 5 in x-axis, group 2, 3, 4 in y-axis and group 1, 3, 4, 5 in z-axis (P<.0001). CONCLUSION. Both Splinting impression copings with autopolymerizing resin following compensation of polymerization shrinkage and splinting method with impression plaster can enhance the accuracy of master cast and impression plaster can be used simple and effective splinting material for implant impression procedure.

This study focuses on the effects of using open stator slots in an interior permanent magnet traction motor with a magnetic slot wedge design in order to increase the power density at its base speed. In addition, such a configuration reduces the torque ripple under field-weakening conditions. Five different wedge models were selected, each of which was evaluated using a finite element analysis (FEA). Based on the initial model, we designed magnetic slot wedges for maximum back-EMF and minimum cogging torque. In addition, the d-q axis inductance was slightly altered due to the magnetic slot wedges. Finally, we analyzed the performance of a traction machine under field weakening control. Moreover, we have outlined the requirements for an ideal magnetic slot wedge design.

In this paper, we report a new manufacturing method for friction reduction using micro-AAJ (abrasive air-jet) machining. AAJ machining employs compressed air to accelerate a jet of high-speed particles to mechanically machine features, including micro-channels and micro-holes, into glass, metal, or polymer substrates for use in microfluidics, MEMS (micro electromechanical systems). And we introduce the micro-AAJ machining system, which consists of a micro-AAJ nozzle and a five-axis positioning system. Various micro-AAJ nozzles can be used, depending on the required surface structure, and three-dimensional machining is possible. We machined samples under six different conditions and describe machining results obtained while using it. We also measured the coefficient of friction of micro-textured surfaces. We report the coefficient of friction of micro-textured surfaces patterned using micro-AAJ machining for engine piston ring.
Objective: The aim of this study was to develop the adaptive device for severe physical disabilities using smart device in the driving simulator and its performance evaluation. Development of appropriate driving adaptive device for the people with serious physical limitation could contribute to maintain their community mobility. Background: There is lack of adaptive driving devices for the people with disabilities in Korea. However, if smart device systems like iPod and iPhone are used for driving a car, the people with serious physical limitations can improve their community mobility. Method: Both gyroscope and accelerometer from iPod were used to measure the tilted angle of the smart device for driving. Customized Labview program was also used to control three axis motors for steering wheel, accelerator and brake pedals. Thirteen subjects were involved in the experiment for performance evaluation of smart device in simulator. Five subjects had driver licenses. Another four subjects did not have driver licenses. Others were people with disabilities. Results: Average driving score of the normal group with driver license in the simulator increased 46.6% compared with the normal group without driver license and increased 30.4% compared with the disabled group(p<0.01). There was no significant difference in the average driving score between normal group without driver license and disabled group(p>0.05). Conclusion: The normal group with driver license showed significantly higher driving score than other groups. The normal group without driver license and disabled group could improve their driving skills with training in simulator. Application: If follow-up studies would be continued and applied in adapted vehicle for on road environment, many people with more severe disabilities could drive and improve the quality of life.
PURPOSE. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the marginal discrepancy of heat-pressed ceramic veneers manufactured using a CAD/CAM system. MATERIALS AND METHODS. The ceramic veneers for the abutment of a maxillary left central incisor were designed using a CAD/CAM software program. Ten veneers using a microstereolithography apparatus (AM group), ten veneers using a five-axis milling machine (SM group), and ten veneers using a traditional free-hand wax technique (TW group) were prepared according to the respective manufacturing method. The ceramic veneers were also fabricated using a heat-press technique, and a silicone replica was used to measure their marginal discrepancy. The marginal discrepancies were measured using a digital microscope (${\times}160$ magnification). The data were analyzed using a nonparametric Kruskal-Wallis H test. Finally, post-hoc comparisons were conducted using Bonferroni-corrected Mann-Whitney U tests (${\alpha}=.05$). RESULTS. The $mean{\pm}SD$ of the total marginal discrepancy was $99.68{\pm}28.01{\mu}m$ for the AM group, $76.60{\pm}28.76{\mu}m$ for the SM group, and $83.08{\pm}39.74{\mu}m$ for the TW group. There were significant differences in the total marginal discrepancies of the ceramic veneers (P<.05). CONCLUSION. The SM group showed a better fit than the AM and TW groups. However, all values were within the clinical tolerance. Therefore, CAD/CAM manufacturing methods can replace the traditional free-hand wax technique.

Statement of problem: Ceramics have been important materials for the restoration of teeth. The demands of patients for tooth-colored restorations and the availability of various dental ceramics has driven the increased use of new types of dental ceramic materials. Improved physical properties of theses materials have expanded its use even in posterior crowns and fixed partial dentures. However, ceramic still has limitation such as low loading capability. This is critical for long-span bridge, because bridge is more subject to tensile force. Purpose: The wire reinforced ceramic was designed to increase the fracture resistance of ceramic restoration. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the fracture resistance of wire reinforced ceramic. Material and methods: Heat pressed ceramic(ingot No.200 : IPS Empress 2, Ivoclar Vivadent, Liechtenstein) and Ni-Cr wire(Alfa Aesar, Johnson Matthey Company, USA) of 0.41 mm diameter were used in this study. Five groups of twelve uniform sized ceramic specimens(width 4 mm, thickness 2 mm, length 15 mm) were fabricated. Each group had different wire arrangement. Wireless ceramic was used as control group. The experimental groups were divided according to wire number and position. One, two and three strands of wires were positioned on the longitudinal axis of specimen. In another experimental group, three strands of wires positioned on the longitudinal axis and five strands of wires positioned on the transverse axis. Three-point bending test was done with universal testing machine(Z020, Zwick, Germany) to compare the flexural modulus, flexural strength, strain at fracture and fracture toughness of each group. Fractured ceramic specimens were cross-sectioned with caborundum disc and grinded with sandpaper to observe interface between ceramic and Ni-Cr wire. The interface between ceramic and Ni-Cr wire was analyzed with scanning electron microscope(JSM-6360, JEOL, Japan) under platinum coating. Results: The results obtained were as follows: 1. The average and standard deviation in flexural modulus, flexural strength and fracture toughness showed no statistical differences between control and experimental groups. However, strain was significantly increased in wire inserted ceramics(P<.001). 2. Control group showed wedge fracture aspects across specimen, while experimental groups showed cracks across specimen. 3. Scanning electron microscopic image of cross-sectioned and longitudinally-sectioned specimens showed no gap at the interface between ceramic and Ni-Cr wire. Conclusion: The results of this study showed that wire inserted ceramics have a high strain characteristic. However, wire inserted ceramics was not enough to use at posterior area of mouth in relation to flexural modulus and flexural strength. Therefore, we need further studies.
