  • Objectives : To understand the theoretical principle of the pulse patterns listed in the 27 Pulses chapter in the Donguibogam, to further examine the relationship between the pattern and according disease of each pulse. Based on these findings, the fundamental meaning of Heo's theories and specific characteristics of the seven exterior pulses were understood. Methods : First, the 27 Pulses chapter of Heo Jun and Zhenmaimun chapter of Lichan were compared. Next, the Chandomaekgyeol and the Maijing were compared to determine bibliographical evidence of Heo's integration of pulse patterns. Based on the main references, the relationship between pattern and disease were studied, along with cases where the principles of the 27 pulses were applied in the Maekbeob chapter of the Donguibogam. Results & Conclusions : In the 27 Pulses chapter, Heo undertook the task of integrating the pulse patterns based on the differentiation of the excessive type and deficient type, along with the awareness of the issue of pulse pattern and disease matching. In specific, he organized and integrated the linguistic expressions of pulses in major pulse texts, directly intervening in places that he felt needed additional explanation. In conclusion, we found that the 27 pulses are systematic, rational, and unique in terms of pulse integration.

  • In this paper, we modeled the methods and steps of reflective writing education that effectively utilizes GPT to enable actual classes. In this paper, we sought a teaching model that can be effectively utilized in self-reflective writing education in a reality where it is physically and practically difficult to prevent the use of an artificial intelligence writing machine called GPT. First, in the preparation stage, we made students understand the operating principles of GPT and educated the application team, while suggesting a teaching method using GPT to model and personalize writing ideas. Afterwards, an example of the task was given. Second, in the stage of using GPT, we showed how to model and internalize writing ideas using GPT according to the process of outlining, paragraphing, and reviewing reflective writing. Third, in the organizing stage, the instructor helped learners edit and make final edits to their writing and presented a process of organizing and reflecting.

  • Currently, there are about 20,000 or so known ancient medical texts from the East Asian medical traditions. Although the most famous texts are widely known, many texts still exist only as original manuscripts. We are interested exploring these texts to uncover the potential benefits of their therapeutic knowledge. This study aims to develop a database program that automatically converts the treatment skills described in the text version into a more structured version. In the previous study, our team analyzed patterns in the way that treatment skills are described and then tried to design a database program algorithm that identified every meaningful keyword used to describe treatment skills and put that word in the right cell of a structured table. This study continues the development of this program. East Asian medical herbal treatment information is broken down into 4 elements: the first one is the name or title of treatment skills, and the second is the symptoms to which the treatment is applied, the third is ingredients used, the fourth is how information is processed and the indications taken. This study presents the algorithm's principles on how to analyze and structure the fourth element, the processing of information and taking of indications, which is described in a form of ancient natural language.

  • The evaluation of students' computational thinking begins with the evaluation of knowledge about the concepts and principles of computing. In this study, we analyzed the differences in teachers' perceptions depending on the description method of the bebras challenge questions to evaluate computer science knowledge. First, we classified the questions into two types depending on whether computer science terms were included or not. Also we made a computational thinking questionnaire with two types of questions and surveyed 72 major teachers. As a result, teachers expressed the opinion that the evaluation questions that revealed computer science terms were appropriate as evaluation questions for information subjects. They also perceived it as more helpful in assessing computational thinking and coding skills. Through the results of this study, we suggested that the way the questions are worded is important in the process of assessing students' understanding of computer science concepts and computational thinking skills.

  • A rapid increase in power capacity in a power system can seriously reduce system reliability by causing the fault capacity to exceed the breaking capacity of circuit breaker. Fault current limiter is a practical and effective way to improve reliability by limiting fault capacity to the breaking capacity level. In this study, in order to help develop an application methodology when applying fault current limiters to power systems, first the topology and operating principles of each type of fault current limiters was reviewed, and the main advantages and disadvantages was compared. Next, to verify the effect of applying fault current limiter to the power system, the power system in which the fault current limiter was introduced was modeled. Finally, after simulating a three-phase short-circuit fault using EMTP-RV, the effect of application was verified by comparing the fault current before and after application of the fault current limiter and confirming that the fault current was reduced by the fault current limiter.

  • Background: The Discovery Elbow System (DES) utilizes a polyethylene bearing within the ulnar component. An exchange bearing requires preoperative freezing and implantation within 2 minutes of freezer removal to allow insertion. We report our outcomes and experience using this technique. Methods: This was an analysis of a two-surgeon consecutive series of DES bearing exchange. Inclusion criteria included patients in which exchange was attempted with a minimum 1-year follow-up. Clinical and radiographic review was performed 1, 2, 3, 5, 8 and 10 years postoperative. Outcome measures included range of movement, Oxford Elbow Score (OES), Mayo Elbow Performance Score (MEPS), complications and requirement for revision surgery. Results: Eleven DESs in 10 patients were included. Indications were bearing wear encountered during humeral component revision (n=5); bearing failure (n=4); and infection treated with debridement, antibiotics and implant retention (DAIR; n=2). Bearing exchange was conducted on the first attempt in 10 cases. One case required a second attempt. One patient developed infection postoperatively managed with two-stage revision. Mean follow-up of the bearing exchange DES was 3 years. No further surgery was required, with no infection recurrence in DAIR cases. Mean elbow flexion-extension and pronosupination arcs were 107°(±22°) and 140° (±26°). Mean OES was 36/48 (±12) and MEPS was 83/100 (±19). Conclusions: Our results support the use of DES bearing exchange in cases of bearing wear with well-fixed stems or acute infection. This series provides surgeons managing DES arthroplasty with management principles, successful and reproducible surgical techniques and expected clinical outcomes in performing DES polyethylene bearing exchange. Level of evidence: IV.

  • The integrity of the high cervical spine, the transition zone from the brainstem to the spinal cord, is crucial for survival and daily life. The region protects the enclosed neurovascular structure and allows a substantial portion of the head motion. Injuries of the high cervical spine are frequent, and the fractures of the C2 vertebra account for approximately 17-25% of acute cervical fractures. We review the two major types of C2 vertebral fractures, odontoid fracture and Hangman's fracture. For both types of fractures, favorable outcomes could be obtained if the delicately selected conservative treatment is performed. In odontoid fractures, as the most common fracture on the C2 vertebrae, anterior screw fixation is considered first for type II fractures, and C1-2 fusion is suggested when nonunion is a concern or occurs. Hangman's fractures are the second most common fracture. Many stable extension type I and II fractures can be treated with external immobilization, whereas the predominant flexion type IIA and III fractures require surgical stabilization. No result proves that either anterior or posterior surgery is superior, and the surgeon should decide on the surgical method after careful consideration according to each clinical situation. This review will briefly describe the basic principles and current treatment concepts of C2 fractures.

  • This study aimed to analyze the learning contents related to biotechnology in life science II and general engineering based on the 2015 revised national curriculum and discuss pedagogical implications for biotechnology education. The main findings were as follows: First, while the learning topics of life science II focused on the ethical aspects related to biotechnology, the learning topics of general engineering focused on the industrial aspects of biotechnology. Second, there were types of overlapping biotechnologies in the life science II textbooks and general engineering textbooks. However, the life science II textbooks provided more scientific and professional descriptions of biotechnology principles than the general engineering textbooks. Also, the life science II textbooks provided more specific overall explanations than the general engineering textbooks. There was a lack of ethical considerations concerning biotechnology in the general engineering textbooks. These findings imply that it is necessary to reorganize biotechnology content based on each school's curriculum and student characteristics.
