  • In this paper, the effect of the secondary electron emission coefficient of Xe ion on glow discharge was examined by ID numerical simulation. The simulation was performed for two distinct structures, short and long gaps. The features of the glow discharges in the both structures, firing and sustain voltages, luminance, and efficiency, were analyzed at various secondary electron emission coefficient of Xe ion.

  • MgO thin films were deposited by $O^+$ IBAD method and results showed assisting oxygen ion beam energy plays a significant role in characteristics of MgO thin films. The lowest firing inception voltage, the highest brightness and the highest luminous efficiency were obtained when oxygen ion beam energy was 300 eV.

  • This paper describes the method of operating the phase controlled rectifier by controlling the firing angle in III, IV quadrant to absorb the lrading reactive power and of improving the waveform of ac current by driving dual converter. The system is intended to compensate the reactive power for any lagging load. Also, by the above method this paper enables us to improve the power factor and waveform referred to the source current and the dc output voltage in the converter.

  • In this study, a stripe type counter electrode discharge cell for PDP was attempted to realize high luminance efficiency and low firing voltage for fine pitch discharge cells. The cells were prepared using electroplated Cu/Ni electrodes coated with glass dielectric layer. The discharge behaviors of such cells were observed. These results indicate that the counter electrode discharge cells have different discharge behavior compared with coplanar cells, which may affect the luminance efficiency of the panel.

  • The Ultra Violet(UV) emission characteristics of Neon + Nitrogen gas-mixture discharge was investigated in AC plasma display panel. The firing voltage of Ne+$N_2$ gas-mixture discharge increased with increasing nitrogen concentration. The UV intensity emitted from the gas discharge also increased with increasing nitrogen concentration. The UV efficiency increase with increasing $N_2$ partial pressure at low $N_2$ concentration, and then UV efficiency is saturated at high $N_2$ concentration.

  • Although different types of discharge cells exist, in common it is the primary goal for all discharge cells to have lower drive voltages and higher efficiency characteristics. To improve these factors, many studies are conducted that prolong the discharge path inside the discharge cell or change the composition of the working gas. In this paper, the two-dimensional fluid simulation was used to calculate the discharge voltage (firing voltage and sustain voltage) and the change in luminance and luminous efficacy according to the change in gap distance between discharge electrodes. In addition, we looked at changes in various charged particles, exciting particles and VUV particles, and studied the causes of the resulting values.

  • In this study, we attempted to reduce firing voltage of AC-PDP by alloying MgO protective Layer with CaO. Also, spray coating of single crystal MgO powder has been used to improving Exo-electron emission characteristics and reducing the statistical discharge delay in plasma displays. The properties of discharge depending upon the single crystal MgO powder are investigated. Plasma display having powder coated MgCaO Protective Layer shows lower driving voltage and higher efficacy than of uncoated, conventional panel.

  • The paper identifies a severe form of core saturation instability in an DC/AC interaction system. It then seeks solutions to the problem by HVDC control means. This is achieved by a proper design of the Voltage Dependent Current Order Limiter (VDCOL), the Current Regulator and Timing Pulse generator. Supplementary control loops have also been introduced to result in a satisfactory performance as compared to that obtained one with the use of uncharacteristic harmonic filter on the AC side. Robustness of all the options has been demonstrated through recovery performance of the DC link in response to both I-phase and 3-phase 5 cycle faults on both rectifier and inverter commutating buses.
