  • For the design of Aluminium pool furnace, position of burner and pool depth effects on flow and temperature field in Aluminium pool furnace are examined by the commercial computational code, CFD-ACE+. From the results, position of burner which is on the same face in side wall is better to distribute the flow field in Al furnace. That yields temperature to distribute more uniformly. And the burner position is on upper wall, fire frame reach pool surface. Customer must consider that, because it make Aluminium to oxidize.

  • In this paper, the lateral motions of a ship in the time domain are treated by applying the Impulse Response Function Technique. The acceleration, and displacement of a ship in the time domain are needed for the purpose of such automatic controls as the fire control system and the auto-pilot of ocean-going vessels, etc. The response Amplitude Operators of a ship are calculated by the Strip Method of Salvesen-Tuck-Faltinsen, and the Pierson-Moskowitz Spectrum multiplied by spreading function is used to represent the short crested ocean waves. The ocean wave elevations in the time domain are simulated according to the Method of Borgman. Finally the rudder effect is considered by simply adding the force and moment due to the rudder to the wave exciting force. And the results of lateral motions with and without rudder are shown.

  • In this paper, we propose a method to investigate the safety consciousness of a analyst incident response. This study conducted a statistical survey on 154 analysts who hired as expert in environment monitoring organizations in South Korea. The results of the analyses showed that respondents had good awareness on the equipment incident response and complied with laboratory safety regulations very well. Secondly, respondents were aware of the importance in the order of equipment incident response, an analytical laboratory incident response, and the cause of a chemical substance associated incident in an analytical laboratory in regarding the regulation compliance for creating a safe laboratory environment and the securement of laboratory safety. Therefore, (it was identified that) it would be necessary to create a safe environment and integrate a safety management system.

  • The large eddy simulation based Fire Dynamics Simulator was utilized to investigate the effects of the size of an opening on smoke removal performance for the three smoke control systems-ventilation purge, and extraction. Three different opening sizes, $r_A$=1, 2, and 3 were investigated while the flow rate remained 0.75 $m^3/s$ at the inlet or outlet depending on the systems. Increase of the opening size did not give a significant difference in the smoke removal rate for the three smoke control systems, though the increasing opening size slightly improved smoke removal. The extraction system was shown the best smoke control system, and the purge system yielded low performance compared to the other two systems for all the different opening sizes.

  • This research aims to grasp the basic knowledge of green belt, which exerts far-reaching effects upon safety, by comparing the revelation of the green belt of the two cities-Japan and China. In result, features of both countries were clarified. The green belt of Japan emphasizes on the function during emergency cases such as natural disasters, while the green belt in China, stresses its' function toward social safety in usual status, such as crimes, accidents or environmental pollution. Also, the function of the green space at normal situations has many in common between these two countries; however, the concepts differ according to geological or social system.

  • Damage to forest trees, caused by wildfire, changes their spectral reflectance signature. This factor led to the initiation of a research project at the Remote Sensing & GIS Laboratory, Kookmin University, to determine if multispectral data acquired by IKONOS could provide fire scar and bum severity mapping. This paper will present detail mapping of burned areas in the eastern coast of Korea with IKONOS imagery. In addition, a single post-burn Landsat-7 ETM+ data was used to compare with IKONOS, the study area. Burn severity map based on IKONOS image was found to be affected by strong topographic illumination effects in the mountain forest. But it has better the delineation of the bum-scarred area. In this study the NDVI was analyzed for geometric illumination conditions influenced by topography(slop, aspect and elevation) and shadow(solar elevation and azimuth angle).

  • In this paper, I applied grounded theory in exploring how Twitter became the battlefield for China's public diplomacy campaign. China's new move to global social media platforms, such as Twitter and Facebook, has been a controversial strategy in public diplomacy. This study analyzes Chinese Foreign Spokesperson Zhao Lijian's Twitter posts and comments. It models China's recent diplomatic move to Twitter as a "war of words" model, with features including "leadership," "polarization," and "aggression," while exerting possible effects as "resistance," "hatred," and "sarcasm" to the global community. Our findings show that by failing to gage public opinion and promote the country's positive image, China's current digital diplomacy strategy reflected by Zhao Lijian's tweets has instead constructed a polarized political public sphere, contradictory to the country's promoted "shared human destiny." The "war of words" model extends our understanding of China's new digital diplomacy move as a hybrid of state propaganda and self-performance. Such a strategy could spread hate speech and accelerate political polarization in cyberspace, despite improvements to China's homogenous network building on Twitter.

  • It is of great importance to assess the residual displacement demand in the performance-based seismic design. In this paper, a hybrid deep learning model for predicting the residual displacement spectra under near-fault (NF) ground motions is proposed by combining the long short-term memory network (LSTM) and back-propagation (BP) network. The model is featured by its capacity of predicting the residual displacement spectrum under a given NF ground motion while considering the effects of structural parameters. To construct this model, 315 natural and artificial NF ground motions were employed to compute the residual displacement spectra through elastoplastic time history analysis considering different structural parameters. Based on the resulted dataset with a total of 9,450 samples, the proposed model was finally trained and tested. The results show that the proposed model has a satisfactory accuracy as well as a high efficiency in predicting residual displacement spectra under given NF ground motions while considering the impacts of structural parameters.
