The study area is located at the middle part of Daebo granitic batholith in the Gyeonggi massif. The geology of the area is mostly composed of Precambrian gneiss complex, coarse- grained middle Jurassic and fine-grained early Cretaceous biotite granites, and Cretaceous small stocks and dykes. The gneiss complex consists mainly of banded gneiss, granitc gneiss, some schist and quartzite. The coarse-grained granite can be divided into greyish granite(Gg1 in the margin and slightly pinkish granite(Gp) in the center. The former is hornblende biotite granite characterized by basic clot and xenolith. The latter is generally garnet biotite granite containing only poor basic clot. The fine-grained granite intruded the coarse-grained granite. The K/Ar biotite ages from the granites belong to middle Jurassic and early Cretaceous. The K/Ar biotite ages and geochemical compositions indicate that Gg and Gp were differenciated from a single magmatic body. The granites are calc-alkali and metaluminous-peraluminous. They are S-type(i1menite series) and partly I-type granitedmagnetite series) formed by melting of relatively fixed source composition. Their tectonic settings belong to the compressional suits and VAG of continental margin.
The Stele for Buddhist Monk Wonjong at Godalsa Temple Site was destroyed a long time ago. Only the tortoise-shaped pedestal and the ornamental capstone in the form of a hornless dragon remain at the site and the broken stele body is stored at the National Museum of Korea today. The stele is made of two kinds of rocks that are coarse-grained biotite granite for the pedestal and the capstone, and fine-grained biotite granite including hornblende assemblages and feldspar phenocrysts for the stele body. The coarse-grained biotite granite of the pedestal and capstone showed same magnetic susceptibility and lithological characteristics with biotite granite outcrops in Yeoju area, whereas the fine-grained granite of the stele body did not. To find a provenance of the stele body stone, we investigated Korean granites in terms of magnetic susceptibility, lithology and old recordings about construction process of the stele. As a result, Haeju granite is the most likely to be a cognate rock of the stele body stone as it has same texture and lithological characteristics like color, hornblende assemblages, mineral composition and magnetic susceptibility. It is imported from Haeju (North Korea) to South Korea via China commercially, and the most suitable for a replica stone of the stele body.
The Geodo granodiorite intruded into the Joseon Supergroup is fine-grained at the marginal part, and medium-grained and more leucocratic at the central part. The Quartz monzonite porphyry intruded inte Precambrian granite and Geodo granodiorite has abundant plagioclase phenocryst. The Imog granite intruded into the Yulri Group and the Joseon Supergroup is mediumgrained biotite granite with partly pinkish feldspar phenocryst. The K/Ar ages obtained from the biotite of the Geodo granodiorite and Imog granite are Early ($111{\pm}1{\sim}107{\pm}1$ Ma) and Late ($93{\pm}1{\sim}92{\pm}1$ Ma) Cretaceous, respectively. The K/Ar sericite age of the quartz-sericite zone of the lower Jangsan quartzite occuring in the western area gave much younger age (about 170 Ma) than that of the Jangsan quartzite, that might be reset due to the regional metamorphism of the Daebo orogeny. The granitic rocks of the area are felsic to mafic, metaluminous to peraluminous, calc-alkalic (alkali-lime index${\fallingdotseq}$ 57) and I-type (magnetite-series) based on the chemical data_ And they appear to have been fractionated at the order of Geodo granodiorite, Quartz monzonite porphyry and Imog granite. In terms of mineralogy, geochemistry and K/Ar biotite age, a rock suite of monzodiorite, quartz monzodiorite and quartz monzonite-granodiorite in the Geodo stock was fractionally differentiated from a magmatic body from its margin to inward.
The Jecheon granite mass has turtle-shape exposure of about $190km^2$ at vicinity of Jecheon-eup, and is elongated in the direction of NEE-SWW. It discordantly intrudes the Bakdalryong metamorphic rocks and the great limestone series(Samtaesan and Hungwolri formation) which belong to the pre-Cambrian and Ordovician, respectively. The mass is composed of five facies of different grain size; texture and charecteristic minerals. The five facies are (1) coarse grained biotite granodiorite, (2) fine grained hornblende biotite granodiorite, (3) coarse grained pink feldspar granodiorite (4) leucogranite, and (5) porphyritic biotite granite. The mutual relationship between each facies is intrusion in (1)-(2) and (2)-(3), but unknown in (3)-(4) and (4)-(5). 22 modal analyses and and 10 chemical analyses on more than a hundred of representative samples taken from the mass are listed as tables. Triangular plot of modal and normative Q-Kf-Pl of this mass show a continuous differentiation products from certain common magma by change of chemical composition and anorthite contents in plagioclase. The metamorphic facies of contact aureole in surrounding rocks adjacent to the granite body are corresponded to hornblende hornfels facies with mineral assemblages of wollastonite-diopside-calcite in calcareous rocks, and of quartz-biotite-muscovite-cordierite in argillaceous rocks. Variation of silica versus oxides of major elements shows that the mass is similar to the trend of Daly's average basalt-andesite-dacite-rhyolite which shows the trend of the fractional crystallization of magma, and is equivalent to the calc-alkali rock series by Peacock. AMF diagram shows that Jecheon granite mass is equivalent to normal diffentiation products such as skaergaard intrusion. The above evidences suggest that the Jecohon granite mass is normal differentiation products formed by fractional crystallization under relatively slow cooling condition.
The plutonic rocks in Seonsan area are divided into dioritic-syenitic rock, gneissose granite, biotite granite and fine grained biotite granite. These rocks intruded into the Pre-cambrian metamorphic complex and are all covered by the Cretaceous Nakdong formation. According to modal minerals, dioritic-syenitic rock corresponds to quartz monzonite, granodiorite, tonalite fields, whereas all the other plutonic rocks fall in granite field. Petrochemically the dioritic-syenitic rock is lower in SiO$_2$ content, differentiation index and Larsen index than all the other plutonic rocks. About the zircon morphology, dioritic-syenitic rock shows (100) dominant type but other granitic rocks exhibit mixed types between (100) and (110) type. The dioritic-syenitic rock could be crystallized in higher temperature than the other plutonic rocks. The plutonic rocks correspond to calc-alkaline rock series, and belong to I-type granite and mostly magnetite-series in magmatic origin. In plutonic processes, the dioritic-syenitic rock with 5kb vapor pressure could intrude into the metamorphic batement at 17km deep below the surface. Later the gneissose granite with lower 3kb vapor pressure could intrude at 10km deep. Sequentially the biotite granite with 0.7kb could intrude at 2km deep. Finally the fine grained biotite granite with 3kb vapor pressure could intrude at 10km deep.

We studied about petrological characteristics of the Bangeujin granite belongs to porphyritic biotite granite, petrogenesis of the enclaves in the granite and contact metamorphism of the sedimentary rock around the granite. The enclaves in the granite are concentrated in the eastern part of the Mipo fault but in the western part, these are rare. The enclaves can be divided into three types according to the petrographical characteristics. These three types are: (1) enclaves having few phenocrysts and fine grained igneous texture and ellipsoid is predominant; (2) enclaves similar In petrographical characteristics and having many phenocrysts considered as being originated from the granitic host rock; and (3) enclaves corresponding to granite in mode composition, having large phenocrysts and of which the matrix is corresponding to fine granular. First two types are correspond to mafic micro granular enclaves and the third is corresponds to felsic microgranular enclaves. In addition, the felsic microgranular enclaves capture the mafic microgranular enclaves. The fact that the compositions of biotite and plagioclase in the enclaves are nearly identical with those of biotite and plagioclase in the granitic host rock is considered as the results of supporting magma mingling. The major elements show well the linear variations as the SiOz$.$ content increases. The rare earth elements content decrease with increasing SiOz content, interpreted as the results of magma mingling. Therefore, we can conclude that the Bangeujin granite captured the felsic microgranular enclaves formed by collapse of early chilled margin during the crystallization and there was magma mingling by the injection of the mafic magma after that time. In addition, these aspects are predominant in the eastern part of the Mipo fault is considered as related to the fault movement.vement.
For the characteristics of rock material and standardization, flagstones of the trifurcated path in Jongmyo Royal Shrine, registered as World Cultural Heritage, were studied on the basis of petrographic, petrochemical and magnetic properties. The flagstones are composed mainly of pale gray fine to medium grained hornblende biotite granite, pale gray fine to medium grained biotite granite, pale pink medium to coarse grained biotite granite, pink medium to coarse grained biotite granite and minor pegmatite and schist. Flagstone represents the average size of $65cm{\times}4cm$ (standard deviation $12cm{\times}7cm$) and suitable (34.7%), common (41.4%) and unsuitable (23%) in roughness. It is interpreted that pale pink and pink granite, pegmatite, schist and other flagstones with unsuitable state are not original rock materials and were exchanged during restoration, in the past. The number of these non-original rock materials is about 560 flagstones. We suggests that the standard flagstone of the trifurcated path is pale gray fine to medium grained biotite granite (${\pm}$hornblende in trace), 70wt.% in $SiO_2$, content, and ${\pm}0.1{\times}10^{-3}\;SI$ in magnetic susceptibility.
SHRIMP zircon U-Pb age dating is carried out for the Yeongju and Andong granite batholiths intruding the Precambrian metamorphic complex and Paleozoic sedimentary formations within the NE Yeongnam Massif, Korea. Dating of zircons from a hornblende-biotite tonalite and an equigranular biotite granodiorite in the Yeongju granite has yielded ages of ca. 187 Ma and ca. 186 Ma, respectively. Also, dating of zircons from a biotite granodiorite and a very coarse-grained biotite granite in the Andong granite has yielded ages of ca. 182Ma and ca. 186Ma, respectively. These data indicate that the main intrusions of the Yeongju and Andong granite batholiths occur almost at the same age. The oldest age of ca. 194 Ma has been determined on zircons from a hornblende gabbro in the Andong granite, and the youngest age of 175 Ma is obtained from the Chunyang granite pluton, mainly consisting of fine-grained two-mica granite, of the Yeongju batholith. These results indicate that Jurassic Daebo magmatism in the Yeongju-Andong area, NE Yeongnam massif, started early at the Early Jurassic with an intrusion of mafic magma, and followed by an emplacement voluminous granite magma during the middle of the Early Jurassic, and was finalized with the emplacement of relatively small amount of much evolved granite magma at the end of Early Jurassic.
This study identifies the origin of stone remains (pavement and banister stones) excavated from the first burial site of King Jeongjo through petro-mineralogical analysis in a quarry and examines the relationship with the stone remains from Geolleung (King Jeongjo's Tomb). The excavated stones from the first burial site of King Jeongjo are all light gray fine-grained biotite granite, and mainly contain quartz, feldspar, and biotite. The magnetic susceptibility of the stones ranges from 5.55 to 12.10 (average 7.00) (SI unit). According to old documents, the quarrying sites of the stones were Mts. Aengbong and Yeogisan (Godeung-dong District, Suwon), and we found a fine-grained biotite granite outcrop behind Mr. Aengbong (currently the site of Yeonggwang Apartment) with a geological survey, and it was petrologically similar to the stone remains from the first burial site. The magnetic susceptibility of the outcrop rocks was 5.15 to 7.24 (SI unit), and their petro-mineral and geochemical characteristics were found to be the same as those of the first buried site and Geolleung Tomb. It was confirmed that most of the stone elements in the first burial site were reused to build Geolleung Tomb while moving the grave. Only the pavement and banister stones seem to have been discarded in the first grave site without being transferred. This is because the size of the new burial mound became larger than the first grave during construction because Queen Hyoui (the consort of King Jeongjo) died and was buried together with the king in the same tomb, and the stone blocks did not fit a grave that size. With these research results, it was possible to compare and examine the old records and scientific analysis data, and they are expected to be used as basic source material in related research.
The Imgye and the Samhwa granitoids distributed in the northeastern part of the Okchon Zone are known to be emplaced during the Mesozoic time. These granitoids intruded the Precambrian metasedimentary bedrocks and Cambro-ordovician sedimentary rocks. Petrographically the Samhwa granitoid is a biotite granite of mainly coars-grained texture with some fine-grained exceptions and the Imgye granitoid contains typically large phenocrysts of pinkish K-feldspars. Geochemical discriminators in terms of major elements suggest that the Samhwa and the Imgye granitoids are I-type and magnetite series. These granitoids are also classified as calc-alkalic rocks of subalkalic series. The Imgye and the Samhwa granitoids could have been evolved mainly by fractional crystallization and minimum partial melting respectively.
