Fine particle classification was performed using products obtained from primary classification process after flotation for efficient application of tailing. The cut size increased with decreasing input pressure from 0.1 MPa to 0.3 MPa and increasing pulp density from 5% to 15% using 2-inch hydrocyclone. The median sizes of overflow and underflow were $6.56{\mu}m$ and $55.45{\mu}m$, respectively at 0.3 MPa with 5% pulp density. The imperfection became closed to ideal separation with increasing the pulp density and decreasing the input pressure. The water content decreased with increasing the pulp density, but the effect of input pressure could be ignored. The water content of underflow was 27.9% at 0.3 MPa with 15% pulp density.
Fly ash powders were refined and separated into fine and coarse size by multi-air classification, and each particle was used for synthesizing mullite and zeolite. Mullite was prepared by sintering the mixture of fine fly ash with mean size of 6.5 $\mu$m and $A1_2$$O_3$powder at above $1450^{\circ}C$. Zeolite was synthesized through hydrothermal reaction with coarse fly ash mean size of $56.3\mu$m in 3.5 M NaOH solution at $120^{\circ}C$. The whole range of particle size can be recycled through size classification into fine and coarse fractions, which are used for syntheses of inorganic materials.

Strength development of concrete subjected to cold weather is generally delayed due to its low temperature. In case of soil nailing method, it is necessary to apply the shotcrete. However, the shotcrete placement under low temperature experiences retardation of strength development due to delayed hydration reaction. Therefore, in this paper, the use of fine particle cement which is produced through particle classification in cement manufacturing process, is discussed to enhance the strength development of the shotcrete under low temperature. According to the results, the concrete containing 100% of fine particle cement had excellent strength development even at $-9^{\circ}C$ of temperature and at 5days, it reached design strength with PE film curing. It is thought that more than 70% of fine particle cement can secure required strength of the shotcrete even at low temperature condition.

Total suspended particulate matters in the ambient air were analyzed for eight chemical elements (Ca, Co, Cu, Fe, Mn, Pb, Si, and Zn) using an x-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF) at the Kyung Hee University - Suwon Campus during 1989 to 1994. To use these data as basis for source identification study, membership of each sample was selected to represent one of the well defined sample groups. The data sets consisting of 83 objects and 8 variables were initially separated into two groups, fine (d$_{p}$<3.3 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$) and coarse particle groups (d$_{p}$>3.3 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$). A hierarchical clustering method was examined to obtain possible member of homogeneous sample classes for each of the two groups by transforming raw data and by applying various distances. A disjoint principal component analysis was then used to define homogeneous sample classes after deleting outliers. Each of five homogeneous sample classes was determined for the fine and the coarse particle group, respectively. The data were properly classified via an application of logarithmic transformation and Euclidean distance concept. After determining homogeneous classes, correlation coefficients among eight chemical variables within all the homogeneous classes for calculated and meteorological variables (temperature. relative humidity, wind speed, wind direction, and precipitation) were examined as well to intensively interpret environmental factors influencing the characteristics of each class for each group. According to our analysis, we found that each class had its own distinct seasonal pattern that was affected most sensitively by wind direction.ion.

This study presents an estimation of the strength development of concrete considering the equivalent age using fine particle cement (FC), which is manufactured according to the classification process. Contents and W/B were considered as experimental parameters. The strength considering the equivalent age is gradually increased, and the deviation of the strength according to W/C is increased with decrease of W/C in accordance with the replacement of the fine particle cement. For estimating the apparent activation energy (Ea) considering setting time and blame fineness of cement, Ea of the FC based on setting time is calculated with $27.6{\sim}28.9$ KJ/mol, which is somewhat similar to that of OPC, while by applying Ea based on blame fineness, Ea is increased with increase of FC contents, and is calculated with $40{\sim}56$ KJ/mol. Good agreement is obtained by applying Ea based on setting time, while there was remarkable variation between calculated value and measured value when Ea based on blame fineness. Therefore, it is necessary to add influencing factors in existing Ea to enhance the accuracy of the estimation.
From 2015 to 2021, high-concentration fine dust episodes with a daily average PM2.5 concentration of 50 ㎍ m-3 or higher were selected and classified into 3 types [long range transport (LRT), mixed (MIX) and Local emission and stagnant (LES)] using synoptic chart and backward trajectory analysis. And relationships between the fine particle data (PM2.5 and PM10 concentration and PM2.5/PM10 ratio) and meteorological data (PBLH, Ta, WS, U-wind, and Rainfall) were analyzed using hourly observation for the classification episodes on the Korean Peninsula and the Seoul metropolitan area (SMA). In LRT, relatively large particles such as dust are usually included, and in LES, fine particle is abundant. In the Korean peninsula, the rainfall was relatively increased centered on the middle and western coasts in MIX and LES. In the SMA, wind speed was rather strong in LRT and weak in LES. In LRT, rainfall was centered in Seoul, and in MIX and LES, rainfall appeared around Seoul. However, when the dust cases were excluded, the difference between the LRT and other types of air quality was decreased, but the meteorological variables (Ta, RH, Pa, PBLH, etc.) were further strengthened. In the case of the Korean Peninsula, it is difficult to find a clear relationship because regional influences (topographical elevation, cities and coasts, etc.) are complexly included in a rather wide area. In the SMA, it is analyzed that the effects of urbanization such as the urban heat island centered on Seoul coincide with the sea and land winds, resulting in a combination of high concentrations and meteorological phenomena.
This paper presents a novel method to speed up neural network (NN) based face detection systems. NN-based face detection can be viewed as a classification and search problem. The proposed method formulates the search problem as an integer nonlinear optimization problem (INLP) and expands the basic particle swarm optimization (PSO) to solve it. PSO works with a population of particles, each representing a subwindow in an input image. The subwindows are evaluated by how well they match a NN-based face filter. A face is indicated when the filter response of the best particle is above a given threshold. To achieve better performance, the influence of PSO parameter settings on the search performance was investigated. Experiments show that with fine-adjusted parameters, the proposed method leads to a speedup of 94 on 320${\times}$240 images compared to the traditional exhaustive search method.
The use of lithium-ion batteries increases significantly with the rapid spread of electronic devices and electric vehicle and thereby an increase in the amount of waste batteries is expected in the near future. Therefore, studies are continuously being conducted to recover various resources of cathode active material (Ni, Co, Mn, Li) from waste battery. In order to recover the cathode active material, black mass is generally recovered from waste battery. The general process of recovering black mass is a waste battery collection - discharge - dismantling - crushing - classification process. This study focus on the crushing/classification process among the processes. Specifically, the particle size distribution of various samples at each crushing/classification step were evaluated, and the particle shape of each particle fraction was analyzed with a microscope and SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy)-EDS(Energy Dispersive Spectrometer). As a result, among the black mass particle, fine particle less than 74 ㎛ was the mixture of cathode and anode active material which are properly liberated from the current metals. However, coarse particle larger than 100 ㎛ was present in a form in which the current metal and active material were combined. In addition, this study developed a PBM(Population Balance Model) system that can simulate two-species mixture sample with two different crushing properties. Using developed model, the breakage parameters of two species was derived and predictive performance of breakage distribution was verified.

To quantitatively estimate the effect of yellow sand(loess) fromt he Northern China, various soil sources having similar chemical compositions to yellow sands should be separated and identified. After that, mass contribution for yellow sand can be calculated. The study showed that it was impossible to solve this problem by the traditional bulk analyses. However, particle-by-particle analysis by a CCSEM (computer controlled scanning electron microscope) gave enormous potentials to solve it. To perform this study, seven soil source data analyzed by CCSEM were obtained from Texas, U.S.A. Initially, each soil date was classified into two groups, coarse and fine particle groups since the particle number distribution showed a minimum occurring at 5.2$\mu$m of aerodynamic diameter. Particles in each group were then classified into one of the 283 homogeneous particle classes by the universal classification rule which had been built by an expert system in the early study. Further, mass fractions and their uncertainties for each class in each source were calculated by the Jackknife method, and then source profile matrix for the 7 soil sources was created. To use the profile matrix in the study of source contribution, it is necessary to test the degree of collinearity among sources. The profiles were tested by the singular value decomposition method. As a result, each soil source characterized by artificially created variables was totally independent each other and is ready to use in source contribution studies as a receptor model.

Concerns on centrifugal classifiers, of which have cut sizes are below few micrometers, have been increased and it is prospected to be used in extensive industries, such as manufacturing the fine minerals, cosmetics, advanced electric materials, and life science. This paper reviews the recent progress of research and development on the centrifugal classifiers. General categorization of classifiers for feeds was assessed and separation mechanism of the classifiers was followed. History of centrifugal classifiers was explored and some points to be improved were briefly indicated. Fundamental theory of the classification by centrifugal classifiers was pearly studied, and advanced and further understandings on factors affecting the separation or grading efficiency are described. Factors determining the classification precision and efficiency of centrifugal classifiers, such as geometry, rotational speed and inclined angle of rotating vanes, feed and air flow rates, and rotor dimensions are reviewed.
