  • In this paper, a compact S type resonator is presented, where the proposed resonator is surface micromachined over transmission lines or other resonators, in order to obtain a wide range of possible electromagnetic couplings. The structure has been applied in two compact, bandstop and bandpass filters with moderate fractional bandwidths (FBW) of 20% and 25% respectively. The bandstop filter presented, was designed by the combination of two design methods in order to obtain the proposed fractional bandwidth, where traditionally, coupled resonator bandstop filters have been used for narrow stopbands. The bandpass filter illustrates the use of the proposed suspended resonator structure to obtain a wide range of electric type coupling coefficients, and external quality factors for the filter. This paper describes the design methodology, concepts and fabrication method proposed for the design of these filters.

  • In this study, an intelligent solenoid valve controller has been developed for efficient maintaining of filters in a dust collecting system. This controller has automatic controllability of solenoid valves' ON/OFF time depending on the clogging status of filters, and then it can extend the filters' lifetimes, decrease the power consumption, and make effective operation of the system possible. This controllability has been executed by the fuzzy theory that utilizes the workers' experimental knowledges, the control expert's knowledges and the differential pressures between the inlets and outlets measured by the sensors. The system's operation is under the continuous surveillance by using a current transformer, which warns the operators and lets them take necessary actions in case of abnormal operation.

  • This paper deals with a new and improved control technique for shunt active filters (AF) used for compensating unwanted harmonic currents injected in the mains due to nonlinear varying loads. This work is motivated by the need to find a permanent solution to the rigorous hit and trial method for evaluating system parameters in an indirect control of AF. A fuzzy pre-compensated PI (Proportional-Integral) controller is used to fuzzify the reference DC voltage of AF to the controller input so that the overshoots and undershoots in its DC link voltage are minimized and the settling time is improved. A three-phase diode rectifier with R-L (Resistive-Inductive) load is used as a non-linear load to study the effectiveness of the proposed controller of the AF. Robustness to filter parameter variations, insensitivity to controller parameter variations, and transient response has been taken as performance evaluation parameters. The results are shown through simulations in Matlab using power system block sets to demonstrate the capability of the proposed controller of the AF.

  • The adaptive IIR filters for active noise control systems are more effective when acoustic feedback exists, but the adaptive IIR filters could be unstable when the filter algorithm is not yet converged. In this paper, auto-secondary path estimation techniques and a stabilizing process for adaptive Multi-Channel Recursive LMS (MCRLMS) filters are developed to improve the stability of multi-channel active noise control systems. Experiments using a TMS320VC33 digital signal processor in a three dimensional enclosure have performed to show the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.

  • In this paper, surface acoustic wave(SAW) bandpass filters using slanted finger interdigital electrode transducers(IDTs) are investigated. The slanted finger IDTs are used to design SAW filters with good shape factor, a flat passband, and good out-of-band rejection characteristic. For the filter design, input-output IDT structure was simulated with modified impulse model; uniform-withdrawal weighting IDTs, withdrawal-withdrawal weighting IDTs. SAW filters of uniform-withdrawal weighting IDTs structure were designed and fabricated on $128^{\circ}LiNbO_3$ piezoelectric substrates. Implemented SAW filter has a fractional bandwidth of 30%, center frequency of 70MHz and shape factor of $1.12\pm0.01$.

  • Hybrid active filters utilize passive filters to reduce the voltage rating and hence the VA rating of the active filter converter. A novel hybrid active filter topoloty to minimize utility current harmonics at high power levels is presented in this paper. The proposed topology combines both passive and active filters to obtain the lowest converter VA rating as compared to the converter rating in the active filter and the series-active hybrid filter configurations. This is demonstrated with experimental results from a laboratory model. Simulation results showing the effect of passive filter impedance are presented.

  • The automatic assembly system of micro optical filter is a key technology in the development of optical modules with high functionality. In order to develop an automatic assembly system of optical fiber and filter, we have firstly developed the system and program capable of characterization of 30${\mu}m$-thick film filters as well as conventional optical filters. Moreover, we have carried out the characterization of optical filter using the developed system and program, and compared experimental results with by conventional handwork. The measurement of optical filters using the present system is faster, more precise and more reliable than those based on the conventional handwork.

  • We propose a hierarchical service management method using Bloom filters for large MANETs. In this paper, a MANET is comprised of logical grid hierarchy, and each mobile node within the lowest service region multicasts the Attenuated Bloom Filter (ABF) for services itself to other nodes within the region. To advertise and discovery a service efficiently, the server node of the lowest server region sends the Summary Bloom Filter (SBF) for the ABFs to the server node of upper server region. Each upper server has the set of SBFs for lower vicinity service regions. The traffic load of the proposed method is evaluated by an analytical model, and is compared with that of two alternative advertisement solutions: complete advertisement and no advertisement. As a result, we identify that the traffic load of the proposed method is much lower than that of two alternative advertisement solutions.

  • We investigated the speckle filtering effect in supervised classification of the C-band polarimetric Ground Based SAR image data. Wishart classification method was used for the supervised classification of the polarimetric GB-SAR image data and total of 6 kinds of speckle filters were applied before supervised classification, which are boxcar, Gaussian, Lopez, IDAN, the refined Lee, and the refined Lee sigma filters. For each filters, we changed the filtering kernel size from $3{\times}3$ to $9{\times}9$ to investigate the filtering size effect also. The refined Lee filter with the kernel size of bigger than $5{\times}5$ showed the best result for the Wishart supervised classification of polarimetric GB-SAR image data. The result also showed that the type of trees could be discriminated by Wishart supervised classification of polarimetric GB-SAR image data.

  • The optical gain and noise figure improved double-pass two-stage EDFA using a mirror, circulator, and gain-flattening filters is proposed. By double passing the pump light and removing the ASE propagating into the input part, the signal gain of 5 ㏈ and noise figure of 2.1 ㏈ are improved compared to the conventional single- and double-pass EDFA With gain-fattening filters in the second stage of EDFA, we obtain an improved flat gain with a gain flatness less than 1 ㏈ over 33-nm wavelength range at the 980-nm pump power of 86 ㎽.
