The purpose of this study is to suggest optimum micro-filler experiment method to select the optimal particle size of earth for using in earth construction works and test this suggestion through compressive strength measurement. According to the results of selecting the method to choose the optimum micro-filler mixing of earth and sand, three-stage filling(plate tamping) showed relatively high results and so was estimated to be the proper filling method. According to the results of optimum micro-filler experiment of earth and sand by the maximal sizes of sand, between 80% and 90% showed the highest result values. The larger the maximum size of sand was, the lower the addition ratio of sand was in optimum micro-filler mixing. According to the results of compressive strength experiment by the particle sizes of earth and sand, 90% in the addition ratio of sand showed the highest results, and so tended to be similar to the results of unit volume weight experiment.
The focus in the present work is to study the agro-waste corn husk bio-filler as reinforcement for polypropylene. These materials have been created by extrusion and injection molding. The effect of filler content by 10, 20, 30 and 40 wt. % and mesh sizes of 50~100, 100 and 300 on the mechanical properties was studied. For the un-notched specimens, the results of flexural strength showed a declining trend with increase the filler loading and the results of impact strength showed an increasing trend with increase the mesh size. In contrast, enhanced flexural modulus was observed with increasing filler loading and size.
The application concept of using a fail safety filter on the filtering system is to prevent the particle leakage when the main filter element is broken at high temperature. In this study, the metal filters were fabricated by pressureless sintering method. The mixture of stainless steel powders and filler metal binder solved in the water solutions of 5% PVA was compacted to form the cylindrical filter without pressure. The compacted filter were sintered in the vacuum sintering furnace at 120$0^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour. The metal filter(produced with powder of 640-840 ${\mu}m$ size) having more than above 50% porosity, 500${\mu}m$ pore size, and permeability of 7.3${\times}$10$^{-11}$m$^{2}$ plugged within 2.5 minute to prevent the leakage of maximum slip particle size of less than 3${\mu}m$.
Recycled polypropylene (RPP) - Wood Saw Dust (WSD) composites with and without acetylation of filler were produced at different filler loading (15%, 25%, 35% and 45% w/w) and filler size (300, 212 and $100{\mu}m$). The RPP-WSD was compounded using a Haake Rheodrive 500 twin screw compounder at $190^{\circ}C$ at 8 MPa for 30 minutes. The mechanical properties and water absorption properties of modified and unmodified WSD-PP composites were investigated. Acetylation of WSD improved the mechanical and water absorption characteristic of composites. The decrease of filler size (300 to $100{\mu}m$) of the unmodified and acetylated WSD showed increase of tensile strength and impact properties. The composites exhibited higher tensile modulus properties as the filler loading increased (15% to 45%). However tensile strength, elongation at break and impact strength showed the opposite phenomenon. Water absorption increased as the mesh number and filler loading increased. With acetylation, lower moisture absorption was observed as compared to unmodified WSD. The failure mechanism from impact fracture of the filler-matrix interface with and without acetylation was analyzed using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM).

Graphite reinforced conductive polymer composites were fabricated by the compression molding technique. Graphite powder was mixed with an phenol resin to impart electrical property in composites. The ratio and particle size of graphite powder were varied to investigate electrical conductivity of cured composites. In this study, graphite reinforced conductive polymer composites with high filler loadings(>66wt.%) were manufactured to accomplish high electrical conductivity. With increasing the loading ratio of graphite powder, the electrical conductivity and flexural strength increased. However. above 80wt.% filler loadings, flexural strength decreased due to lack of resin. Regardless of graphite particle size, electrical conductivity wasn’t varied. On the other hand, with decreasing particle size, flexural strength increased due to high specific surface area.
In order to improve the optical properties and printability of paper, various fillers are used in papermaking. This study was performed to investigate several fillers-precipitated calcium carbonate(PCC), ground calcium carbonate(GCC), and blends(PCC/talc or micro-talc(MVP) and GCC/talc or micro-talc(MVP)-for their effects on various newsprint properties. Results obtained from the study were summarized as follows ; 1) PCC treatment gave about 16.8% higher retention than GCC treatment at the filler level of 5% and the retention of filler in the handsheet increased as average particle size of mixed filler was increasing($PCC{\leq}GCC<MVP<talc$). 2) PCC treatment kept opacity more highly than no filler treatment and opacity decreased as average particle size of mixed filler was increasing. 3) Independent treatment of PCC kept tear strength more effectively than GeC did, and tear strength increased as average particle size of mixed filler was increasing. 4) Independent treatment of pee kept tensile strength more highly than other treatments and Gee treatment kept tensile strength highly than pee treatment under mixed filler treatment. 5) Burst strength under PCC treatments decreased linearly as average particle size of mixed filler was increasing. 6) Compared "With non-filler treatment, filler treatment gave much better printability.
A series of conductive filler were prepared with electroless plating method. Base conductive materials of the filler were nickel and copper. The cores were prepared with Nylon 6 and rayon in different aspect ratio. Also, various complexes were made with ABS resin and conductive filler with different filler feed ratio. The conductivity of the filler was measured with conductivity analyzer and the size distributions of fillers was measured with laser particle size analyzer. Electromagnetic wave shielding efficiency of each complex film was measured with flange circular coaxial transmission line sample holder within the 1MHz$\sim$1GHz bandwidth range. From this study, the conductivity of filers surpass that of other carbon films. It is available that the filler made of fibrous materials can be applied in plastic molding industry of electric appliances as a EMI filler.

In order to measure the sound transmission loss(STL) of a test specimen such as windows, which is smaller than the test opening, a special partition is built into the test opening and the specimen is placed in that partition. This paper discusses how the measured STL is changed by the partition when a small-size window of high sound insulation is mounted. Theoretical and experimental investigations are carried out to quantify the effect of the filler wall. The results reveal that the smaller the window size is, the higher sound insulation performance of the filler wall is required in order to measure the accurate STL of the specimen. It is found that the insufficient sound insulation of the filler wall leads to the lower measured value of the window's STL.
In this study, the effects of filler particle size and shape on the physical properties of silicone rubber composites were investigated using inorganic fillers (Minusil 5, Celite 219, and Nyad 400) except silica, which was already present as a reinforcing filler of silicone rubber. Fillers with small particle sizes are known to facilitate the formation of the bound rubber by increasing the contact area with the polymer. However, in this experiment, the bound rubber content of Celite 219-added silicone composite was higher than that of Minusil 5-added silicone composite. This was attributed to the porous structure of Celite 219, which led to an increase in the internal surface area of the filler. When the inorganic fillers were added, both thermal decomposition temperature and thermal stability were improved. The bound rubber formed between the silicone rubber and inorganic filler affected the degree of crosslinking of the silicone composite. It is well-known that as the size of the reinforcing filler decreases, the reinforcing effect increases. However, in this experiment, the hardness of the composite material filled with Celite 219 was the highest compared to the other three composites. Furthermore, the highest value of 2.19 MPa was observed for 100% modulus, and the fracture elongation was the lowest at 469%. This was a result of excellent interaction between Celite 219 filler and silicone rubber.
The validity of Eshelby-type model with Mori-Tanaka's mean field theory to predict the effective material properties of composites have been investigated in terms of filler size and its arrangement. The 2-dimensional plate composites including constant volume fraction of fillers are used as the model composite for the analytical studies, where the filler size and its arrangement are considered as parameters. The exact effective material properties of the composites are computed by finite element analysis(FEA), which are compared with effective material properties from the Eshelby-type model. Although the fillers are periodically or randomly arranged, the average Young's moduli by Eshelby-type model and FEA are in good agreement, specially for the ratio of specimen size to filler size being smaller than 0.03. However, Poisson's ratio of the composite by the Eshelby-type model is overestimated by $20\%$.
