  • The validity of Eshelby-type model with Mori-Tanaka's mean field theory to predict the effective material properties of composites have been investigated in terms of filler size and its arrangement. The 2-dimensional plate composites including constant volume fraction of fillers are used as the model composite for the analytical studies, where the filler size and its arrangement are considered as parameters. The exact effective material properties of the composites are computed by finite element analysis(FEA), which are compared with effective material properties from the Eshelby-type model. Although the fillers are periodically or randomly arranged, the average Young's moduli by Eshelby-type model and FEA are in good agreement, specially for the ratio of specimen size to filler size being smaller than 0.03. However, Poisson's ratio of the composite by the Eshelby-type model is overestimated by $20\%$.

  • On the soft carbon made from petroleum coke, it was found that the graphitization began at around 2,000$^{\circ}C and crystallite diameters were almost saturated at 2,400$^{\circ}C., and that the molecular planes were difficult to arrange into an ideal graphite lattice in spite of the saturation of crystallinity by heat treatment temperature. On the hard carbon made from cross-linked thermosetting plastics, phenol-formaldehyde filler and phenol-benzaldehyde binder, it was very difficult to rotate the molecular planes into a regular directional arrangement and into a consecutive order corresponding to the large graphite crystals. In addition to the above mentioned crystallinity, it was also determined in relation to electric conductivity, resistivity, hardness and apparent density of carbons.

  • In order to efficiently control the heat generation of electronic devices, many research has been conducted on thermally conductive composite materials. In this study, milled carbon fiber was dispersed in four solvent to investigate the relationship of carbon fiber alignment according to dispersion by solvents, and carbon fiberreinforced composite material(CFRP) was manufactured using vacuum filtration. To evaluate the arrangement of CFRP the arrangement of the prepared specimen was observed under an optical microscope, and thermal conductivity was measured by Laser Flash Analysis. The Through-plane thermal conductivity of CFRP using NMP and Ethanol was 10.79 W/mK and 10.57 W/mK respectively, which were improved by 218% and 209% compared to the In-plane thermal conductivity. The high viscosity of the solvent greatly affects the shear of the fluid, and it seemed to determine the alignment of the filler.

  • The effect of reactive diluents on the ac electrical treeing in epoxy/nanosilicate systems was studied, in a needle-plate electrode geometry. Diglycidyl ether of bisphenol A (DGEBA) type epoxy was used as a base resin, and layered silicate was used as a nano-sized filler. Polyglycol (PG) or 1,4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDGE) was introduced as a reactive diluent to the DGEBA/nanosilicate system, in order to decrease the viscosity of the nanocomposite system. PG acted as a flexibilizer, and BDGE acted as a chain extender, after the curing reaction. To measure the treeing propagation rate, a constant alternating current (ac) of 10 kV/4.2 mm (60 Hz) was applied to the specimen, in a needle-plate electrode arrangement, at $30^{\circ}C$ of insulating oil bath. When 10 kV/4.2 mm (60 Hz) was applied, the treeing propagate rate in the DGEBA system was $1.10{\times}10^{-3}$ mm/min, and that in the DGEBA/PG system was $1.05{\times}10^{-3}$ mm/min. As 1.5 wt% of nanosilicate was added to the DGEGA/PG system, the propagation rate was $0.33{\times}10^{-3}$ mm/min. This meant that the nano-sized layered silicates would act as good barriers to treeing propagation. The effect of chlorine content was also studied, and it was found that chlorine had a bad effect on the electrical insulation property of the epoxy system.

  • In general, Korean Lightweight Concrete used Heat insulating material for building and filler for civil construction, backfill material for tunnel, office floor fillers, lightweight blocks and so on. These expand the range of use ALC(autoclaved lightweight concrete) on the soft-ground at regular intervals during road construction by installing piles used as substrates for the process is under study. In this study, behavior characteristics on the soft-ground of pavement analysis was used to test the geo-Centrifuge. Prototype pavement reduced to 1/30 slab form of the composition as kaolinite model tests were conducted in the soft ground. Pile Arrangement (having 36 component pile with an array of $3{\times}12$) was used to group of piles. Tests of gravity 30 level the centrifugal force acting Light-weight pavement models. Based on the Prototype pavement of the behavior characteristics of pavement behavior characteristics were estimated. FMA analysis of the 10 times as big 39.4kg (actual load 35 ton) of the lateral load is applied to the case 7.8mm (actual behavior 23.4mm) behavior was fine.

  • In a pressurized water reactor, radioactive corrosion products (CRUD) in primary coolant system are one of the major sources for the occupational radiation exposure of the personnel in a nuclear power plant. Through the recent trend of long term fuel cycle in a nuclear power Plant, radioactive corrosion products deposited in reactor core for a long time are also the cause of Axial Offset Anomaly (AOA) having m effect on reactor power by the hideout of boron. CRUD consist primarily of magnetite, nickel ferrite, cobalt ferrite, and so on. They have the characteristic of strong magnetism. Therefore it is performed the conceptual design to develop the filter which removes the CRUD by magnetic field that is generated by an arrangement of permanent and electric magnets. Contrary to the conventional filter, the proposed filter does not interrupt the fluid flow, so there is little pressure drop and it can be used continuously. It is expected to be applied as one of the technologies for removal of the CRUB.
