In this thesis, the performance of Inverted file and clustered file were compared under the hypothesis that file organization will influence the retrieval performance.
A design file can get larger in size as the complexity of the target object increases. A large design file may reside in a large parallel computing system, such as cloud computing systems, and many designers may work concurrently on the same design file. In such a case, it is obvious that we need some kind of protection mechanism so that each user can access only the area of the file he or she is entitled to. Two approaches can be taken for this problem: one is the traditional access control mechanisms and the other encryption techniques. We take the latter approach to ensure the safety of the file even in public domain such as clouding systems, and in this paper, we suggest an encryption scheme for a file where the file is encrypted in multi-layer so that each user is allowed to access the file only at the layer for which the user has the proper access right. Each layer of the file is encrypted with different keys and these keys are exposed only to those who have the right access permit. The paper explains the necessary file format to achieve this goal and discusses the file manipulation functions to handle this new file format.
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the canal configuration after shaping by ProFile. ProTaper and K-Flexofile in simulated resin canals with different angles of curvature. Three types of instruments were used: ProFile. ProTaper. K-Flexofile. Simulated root canals. which were made of epoxy resin. were prepared by ProFile. ProTaper with rotary instrument using a crown-down pressureless technique. and hand instrumentation was performed by K-Flexofile using a step-back technique. All simulated. canals were prepared up to size 25 file at end-point of preparation. Pre and post instrumentation images were recorded with Scanner. Assessment of canal shape was completed with Image Analysis program. Measurements were made at 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9 and 10mm from the apex. At each level. outer canal width. inner canal width. total canal width. and amount of transportation from original axis were recorded. Instrument deformation and fracture were recorded. Data were analyzed by means of one-way ANOVA analysis of variance and the Sheffe's test. The result was that ProFile and ProTaper maintain original canal shape regardless of the increase of angle of curvature than K-Flexofile. ProFile show significantly less canal transportation and maintained original canal shape better than ProTaper.

When we apply file commands on files in a directory, the directory as well as the file suffer changes in timestamps of MFT entry. Based on understanding of these changes, this work provides a digital forensic analysis on the timestamp changes of the directory influenced by execution of file commands. NTFS utilizes B-tree indexing structure for managing efficient storage of a huge number of files and fast lookups, which changes an index tree of the directory index when files are operated by commands. From a digital forensic point of view, we try to understand behaviors of the B-tree indexes and are looking for traces of files to collect information. But it is not easy to analyze the directory index entry when the file commands are executed. And researches on a digital forensic about NTFS directory and B-tree indexing are comparatively rare. Focusing on the fact, we present, in this paper, directory timestamp changes after executing file commands including a creation, a copy, a deletion etc are analyzed and a method for finding forensic evidences of a deletion of directory containing files. With some cases, i.e. examples of file copy and file deletion command, analyses on the problem of timestamp changes of the directory are given and the problem of finding evidences of a deletion of directory containging files are shown.

Several attempts have been made to add journaling capability to a traditional file allocation table (FAT) file system. However, they encountered issues such as excessive system load or instability of the journaling data itself. If journaling data is saved as a file format, it can be corrupted by a user application. However, if journaling data is saved in a fixed area such as a reserved area, the storage can be physically corrupted because of excessive system load. To solve this problem, a new method that dynamically allocates journaling data is introduced. In this method, the journaling data is not saved as a file format. Using a reserved area and reserved FAT status entry of the FAT file system specification, the journaling data can be dynamically allocated and cannot be accessed by user applications. The experimental results show that this method is more stable and scalable than other log-based FAT file systems. HFAT was tested with more than 12,000 power failures and was stable.

As the development of IT technologies, storages stored very sensitive data which should not be damaged, too. It increased the importance of data backup and makes the time need to backup data important issues. Snapshot is one of the backup technologies which needs short downtime to maintain consistency of data during backup data. In this paper, we studied two kinds of snapshots, local file system based snapshot and network file system based snapshot. In the local file system based snapshot part, we propose the PSnap which is a snapshot library for non-snapshot file system as like Ext2, Ext3 and XFS. In another part, network file system based snapshot, we propose the GlorySnap which snapshot utilities for GloryFS is a distributed file system was made by ETRI.

In multimedia systems, very large files are stored and played. Because those files are read-centric and have low reusability, legacy file systems that are optimized for the use of many small files, do not show good performance in the multimedia systems. We implemented a new file system to deal with those characteristics. The new file system shows the superior performances in read, write and mixed operation to the Linux's EXT2 or EXT3 file systems. The new file system was implemented on the Linux operating system, and it also can be easily ported to other operating systems.

Although there are a lot of file sharing mechanisms in the Internet such as NFS and P2P, FTP is one of the most common mechanisms used until now. In this paper, we propose a more enhanced file sharing mechanism, the Distributed File Server (DFS) method. The most remarkable feature of DFS is that it can be simply adopted in the current Internet FTP services by locating a DFS node between existing FTP servers and clients without changing any existing file transfer environment. To verify the proposed mechanism we implemented a DFS prototype on RedHat 7.2 system and we finally show that it can reduce the file storage problem caused by big-sized multimedia data.
In this paper, the large data processing and suitable FAT32 file system for industrial system using a PLC and CF memory was implemented. Most of PLC can't save the large data in user data memory. So it's required to the external devices of CF memory or NAND flash memory. The CF memory is used in order to save the large data of PLC system. The file system using the CF memory is NTFS, FAT, and FAT32 system to configure in various ways. Typically, the file system which is widely used in industrial data storage has been implemented as modified FAT32. The conventional FAT 32 file system was not possible for multiple writing and high speed data accessing. The proposed file system was implemented by the large data processing module can be handled that the files are copied at the 40 bytes for 1msec speed logging and creating 8 files at the same time. In a sudden power failure, high reliability was obtained that the problem was solved using a power fail monitor and the non-volatile random-access memory (NVSRAM). The implemented large data processing system was applied the modified file system as FAT32 and the good performance and high reliability was showed.
