The manual was proposed for individual role, according to the stages of forest fire suppression at forest fire occurrence site, for forest fire crew who has a responsibility of national forest office. The scopes of this manual are (1) apply to initial attack before arriving helicopter, (2) apply to ground fire fighting support with air attack, (3) apply to mop-up after withdraw air attack, (4) apply to night suppression when air attack is impossible. This manual is arranged for incident commander or ground fire fighter duties from the 1st stage of acceptance of forest fire to the 10th stage of withdraw of helicopter. This was developed for the purpose of every awareness of the crews and therefore of fire reduction of damage of lives, properties and forest through systematic and rapid response to forest fire.

The human voice is the most natural means of communication. The need for speech recognition technology is increasing gradually to increase the ease of human and machine interface. The function of the avionics equipment is getting various and complicated in consequence of the growth of digital technology development, so that the load of pilots in the fighter aircraft must become increased since they don't concentrate only the attack function, but also operate the complicated avionics equipments. Accordingly, if speech recognition technology is applied to the aircraft cockpit as regards the operating the avionics equipments, pilots can spend their time and effort on the mission of fighter aircraft. In this paper, the cockpit voice command system applicable to the fighter aircraft has been developed and the function and the performance of the system verified.
LVC(Live-Virtual-Constructive) training system is drawing attention due to changes in battlefield situation and the development of advanced information and communication technologies. The ROKAF(Republic of Korea Air Force) plans to construct LVC training system capable of scientific training. This paper analyzes the results of V-C interoperability test with three fighter simulators as virtual systems and a theater-level wargame model as a constructive system. The F-15K, KF-16, and FA-50 fighter simulators, which have different interoperable methods, were converted into a standard for simulation interoperability. Using the integrated field environment simulator, the fighter simulators established a mutually interoperable environment. In addition, the Changgong model, which is the representative training model of the Air Force, was converted to the standard for simulation interoperability, and the integrated model was implemented with optimized interoperability performance. Throughput experiments, It was confirmed that the fighter simulators and the war game model of the ROKAF could be interoperable with each other. The results of this study are expected to be a good reference for the future study of the ROKAF LVC training system.

In this paper, we have described a development of the external instrumentation system of a fighter aircraft for flight test. The external instrumentation system consists of the instrumentation pod and the image pod. The instrumentation pod measures a flight data(attitude, velocity, altitude, etc) of the fighter aircraft by using GPS/AHRS sensor. The image pod takes high-speed images for the separation trajectory of a smart bomb with 2 high-speed cameras and video signal for it with one general camera. We have verified the performance of the external instrumentation system through the ground test, the environment test and the flight test.

The objectives of this study are twofold: (1) to evaluate the cockpit of three Korean air force fighters such as F-4, F-5, and F-16 in an ergonomic perspective and (2) to measure the musculoskeletal discomfort of the fighter pilots. For the study, 369 air force pilots from 7 squadrons were surveyed. The study shows that the cockpit design of F-16 is superior to the others. However, F-4 is the worst among them. Statistical analyses reveal that the seat in the cockpit raised the most complaints, regardless of types of fighter planes. The main problems with the seat included inappropriate designs of the backrest angle, seat cushioning, and parachute harness. Also frequently cited are various control switches, control stick, rudder pedal, and the throttle. That these items lack human integration is found in remote positions and improper dimensions. The implications of these findings are discussed. The self-reported musculoskeletal complaints show that the main discomfort is on the back and neck. Also, the buttocks, shoulders, and the legs/knees are common sites of discomfort. A stepwise regression analysis shows that the back discomfort, is mainly caused by the use of the seat, rudder pedal, control stick, and switches. A Spearman rank correlation coefficient test also reveals that job dissatisfaction of the pilots is related to the complaints with the cockpit and musculoskeletal discomfort. These findings suggest that more comprehensive studies for cockpit design in the aspects of functional anthropometry of Korean pilots are needed to reduce the musculoskeletal discomfort.

During the conceptual design phase of fighter class aircraft, the high speed wind tunnel test with 1/20 scale wing-body-tail model has been conducted to investigate the effects of leading edge flap deflection on the supersonic cruise performance of the aircraft. To select the proper leading edge flap deflection for the wind tunnel test, the aerodynamic characteristics due to various leading edge flap deflections have been analyzed by using corrected supersonic panel method. Based on the results obtained from the experimental and numerical approaches, the effects of leading edge flap deflection have shown to be useful to enhance the supersonic cruise performance of fighter class aircraft.

During the conceptual design phase of a wing-body-canard type fighter class aircraft, as a method of maneuverability enhancement for an aircraft, effects of canard-leading edge flap scheduling have been studied. In this study, corrected supersonic panel method has been used to predict the drag polar characteristics due to canard-leading edge flap deflections in the high speed regime. Utilizing the predicted drag polar curves, the canard-leading edge flap scheduling laws have been established. These scheduling laws are the relation of canard-leading edge flap deflections and the flight conditions to maximize the lift-drag ratio. Based on the results obtained from the canard-leading edge flap scheduling, the present method has shown to be useful to enhance the maneuverability of wing-body-canard type fighter class aircraft.

In this study a methodology to evaluate fatigue life of the electronic parts for the fighter radar unit under random vibration loading is presented. To do this, one parameter for the 3-σ RMS quation of Steinberg fatigue model is modified to come up with a printed circuit board(PCB) with multiple electronic parts, while fundamental frequency and dynamic deflection of the PCB are calculated from a MATLAB based finite element computer code. For the RIFA structure selected in this study, the 3-σ RMS fatigue limit displacement is reduced to 0.741 times as much as the Steinberg model. This investigation allows to assess the life of multiple electronic parts mounted on the PCB with reinforced metal cover/body showing non-sinusoidal deflection patterns.

To develop a high-resolution electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) payload to be mounted on a high-speed and performance fighter aircraft in an external POD for acquiring daytime and nighttime image information on tactical targets, simulations, including flight environments and maneuvers, should be performed. Such simulations are pertinent to predicting the performance of several variables, such as aerodynamic force and inertia load acting on the payload. This paper describes the development of a flight data acquisition and analysis system based on flight simulation software (SW) for mission simulation of super-maneuverability fighter equipped with EO/IR payload. The effectiveness of the system is verified through comparison with actual flight data. The proposed flight data acquisition and analysis system based on FlightGear can be used as an M&S tool for system performance analysis in the development of the EO/IR payload.

This study addresses the optimal design methodology for switching between active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar operating modes to easily select the necessary information to reduce pilots' cognitive load and physical workload in situations where diverse and complex information is continuously provided. This study presents a procedure for defining a hidden Markov chain model (HMM) for modeling operating mode changes based on time series data on the operating modes of the AESA radar used by pilots while performing mission scenarios with inherent uncertainty. Furthermore, based on a transition probability matrix (TPM) of the HMM, this study presents a mathematical programming model for proposing the optimal structural design of AESA radar operating modes considering the manipulation method of a hands on throttle-and-stick (HOTAS). Fighter pilots select and activate the menu key for an AESA radar operation mode by manipulating the HOTAS's rotary and toggle controllers. Therefore, this study presents an optimization problem to propose the optimal structural design of the menu keys so that the pilot can easily change the menu keys to suit the operational environment.
