  • In this paper, a vector control of the IPMSM drives for the next generation domestic high speed railway system is presented. The applied control method uses one pulse mode field weakening control in constant power region, and maximum torque control per ampere control in constant torque region considering current and voltage limits. An overmodulation control interval is inserted to improve the transient characteristics during transition period of the control modes. Simulation programs based on Matlab/Simulink are developed. Finally the designed system is verified by simulation and their characteristics are analyzed by the simulation results.

  • In this paper, a new approach for the induction machine control whih ensures producing maximum torque per ampere over the entire field weakening region is presented. In addition, the relation of the output torque capability with the leakage factor of the machine is examined. Also the smooth and precise transition into the field weakening operation can be achieved by adjusting the base speed for the field weakening operation according to the flux level, the current limit and the voltage limit. The proposed is verified through simulation and experiment for a 5hp laboratory induction motor drive system.

  • Synchronous reluctance motors(SynRM) for the application such as an electric vehicle, compressor drives of air conditioner and machine tool spindle drives require a wide field-weakening speed range. In order to improve the efficiency performance in such applications, this paper has examined the loss and the efficiency characteristics of SynRM mainly in the field-weakening speed region over the base speed. The control strategy in order to offer a efficiency optimization operation is shown and the copper and iron losses driven the equivalent circuit model of the machine is minimized. The usefulness of the proposed efficiency optimization control is verified through the SynRM durve system.

  • This paper presents the control of a Permanent Magnet Electric Variable Transmission (PM-EVT) for Hybrid Electric Vehicles (HEVs). Consisting of two electric machines, the EVT realizes the power split function in an electromagnetic way rather than in a mechanical way. A specific PM-EVT has been designed for Toyota Prius II. The control scheme of the entire vehicle is deduced using the Energetic Macroscopic Representation methodology. The energy management strategy yields local control references. A specific attention is paid for the field weakening for wide speed range. Simulation results are provided to illustrate the EVT modeling and control.

  • The selection of flux level in the maximum torque control of stator flux-oriented induction motor drives in the field weakening region is dependent on stator resistance and inductances. This paper presents parameter detuning effects of stator flux-oriented control drives in the field weakening region. The detuning effects of stator resistance and rotor leakage inductance are analyzed. The decrease of torque and the flux control lost by the detuning of inductance are shown in the simulation results.

  • This paper investigates the problem of the speed estimation of conventional speed sensorless stator flux-oriented induction machine drive in the field weakening region and proposes a new speed estimation scheme to estimate speed exactly in transients in the field weakening region. The error included in the estimated rotor speed is removed by not a low pass filter but Kalman filter.

  • This paper describes current controlled PWM technique of PM synchronous motors for a wide variety of speed control applications. They are however limited in their ability to operate in the power limited regime where the available torque is reduced as the speed is increased above its base value. This paper reviews the operation of the PMSM drives when they are constrained to be within the permissible envelope of maximum inverter voltage and current to produce the rated power and to provide this with the highest attainable rotor speed. The optimal field-weakening control algorithm is the use of phase current and d-axis current feedback to reduce of error between the d-axis current command and real current and to improve the torque characteristics. The improved torque characteristics of speed control strategy with optimal field weakening control algorithm is analyzed and the performance is investigated by the computer simulation and experimental results. • It is important to estimate the rotor speed for field weakening operation in the speed sensorless stator flux oriented (SFO) induction motor drive. Several methods have been reported to estimate exactly the speed in the speed sensorless system. In this paper, we apply two observer-based methods, the Luenberger observer (LO) and the Kalman filter (KF), to SFO induction motor drive in order to achieve a speed sensorless operation in field weakening region. Two control methods are reviewed and discussed. The operation characteristics of these methods in the field weakening region is compared by simulation and experiment.
