Electrical Machines for High Speed Applications with a Wide Constant-Power Region Requirement

  • This paper discusses the issues associated with the design of high speed machines for applications with a wide constant-power region requirement. Using described multi-domain design environments which put equal weight on the electromagnetic, thermal and mechanical considerations, the suitability and power density achievable using Induction Machines (IM) and Permanent Magnet Synchronous Machines (PMSM) are compared.

  • This paper proposes a new speed sensorless direct torque and flux controlled interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) drive. Closed-loop control of both the torque and stator flux linkage are achieved by using two proportional-integral (PI) controllers. The reference voltage vectors are generated by a SVM unit. The drive uses an adaptive sliding mode observer for joint stator flux and rotor speed estimation. Global asymptotic stability of the observer is achieved via Lyapunov analysis. At low speeds, the observer is combined with the high frequency signal injection technique for stable operation down to standstill. Hence, the sensorless drive is capable of exhibiting high dynamic and steady-state performances over a wide speed range. The operating range of the direct torque and flux controlled (DTFC) drive is extended into the high speed region by incorporating field weakening. Experimental results confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • 전원의 변동이 심한 전압원을 사용하는 선박, 전기자동차 등에서는 DC-Link전압이 가변하기 때문에 낮은 영역의 전압에서는 최대출력 운전을 할 수가 없다. 낮은 영역의 전압에서 최대 출력을 하기 위하여 유도전동기 ${\Delta}$결선 운전을 해야 하지만 ${\Delta}$결선 운전시 높은 입력 전류로 인하여 인버터 전력소자의 온도가 상승하게 된다. 따라서 유도전동기 Y결선 운전을 하고 부족한 출력은 유도전동기 약계자 제어를 하여야 한다. 본 논문은 가변 DC-Link 전압에서 최소의 상전류로 전력소자와 유도 전동기의 상태에 따라 최대출력 운전을 하는 약계자 제어 알고리즘을 제안하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 PMSM 제어를 위한 Look-up Table 사용시 적용되는 인터폴레이션 개선기법에 대하여 설명한다. PMSM은 약계자 영역에서 속도 증가에 따라 전류제한원의 영향에 의해 q축 전류가 감소하는 운전을 하게 된다. 기존의 PMSM 약계자 영역에서는 Look-up Table을 이용한 제어시 d,q축 전류 데이터 부족에 의해 선형 인터폴레이션 구간이 늘어나기 때문에 지령과 실제 전류에 오차가 발생하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 약계자 영역에서 q축 전류 보상기를 통해 선형 인터폴레이션에 의해 발생하는 오차를 보상하는 전류제어 방법에 대하여 제안한다.

  • This paper presents an investigation of the parameter modeling on the basis of Finite Element (FE) analysis in which the variable frequency characteristic in field weakening is considered in Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motors (IPMSM). The parameters of IPMSM have nonlinear characteristics not only in accordance with the load variation but also with the current phase angle of a system fed inverter. From the results of FE analysis, the performances of torque and speed-power are simulated and the validity of the proposed FE analysis is compared with experimental results.

Effect of local web buckling on the cyclic behavior of reduced web beam sections (RWBS)

  • Application of reduced web beam section (RWBS) as a sacrificial fuse element has become a popular research field in recent years. Weakening of beam web in these connections may cause local web buckling around the opening area which can affect cyclic behavior of connection including: maximum load carrying capacity, strength degradation rate, dissipated energy, rotation capacity, etc. In this research, effect of local web buckling on the cyclic behavior of RWBS connections is investigated using finite element modeling (FEM). For this purpose, a T-shaped moment connection which has been tested under cyclic loading by another author is used as the reference model. Fracture initiation in models is simulated using Cyclic Void Growth Model (CVGM) which is based on micro-void growth and coalescence. Included in the results are: effect of opening corner radii, opening dimensions, beam web thickness and opening reinforcement. Based on the results, local web buckling around the opening area plays a significant role on the cyclic behavior of connection and hence any parameter affecting the local web buckling will affect entire connection behavior.

  • A bathtub vortex above the outlet of a rotating barrel is simulated. By analyzing the Ekman layer theory, it can be found that the main flow circulation is inversely proportional to the thickness of Ekman layer. The thicker the Ekman boundary layer, the weaker the rotational strength and the shorter of the length of gas core is. According to this law, models of barriers with rods of different heights are established. The reduction of air-core length in this air entrainment vortex and weakening the strength of rotation field were achieved.

  • Interior permanent magnet synchronous motor(IPMSM) has become a popular choice in electric vehicle applications, due to their excellent power to weight ratio. The paper is proposed maximum torque control of IPMSM for high speed drive. The control method is applicable over the entire speed range and considered the limits of the inverter's current and voltage rated value. For each control mode, a condition that determines the optimal d-axis current $^i{_d}$ for maximum torque operation is derived. The proposed control algorithm is applied to IPMSM drive system for high speed drive, the operating characteristics controlled by maximum torque control are examined in detail by experiment.

  • 본 논문은 고속영역에서 3차 고조파의 영향을 고려한 5상 유도전동기의 약계자 운전을 제안한다. 5상 유도전동기는 집중권의 형태로 되어있어 공극 자속이 제 3차 공간 고조파 성분을 포함한다. 따라서 5상 유도전동기의 역기전력은 3차 고조파가 포함된 형태이므로, 5상 유도전동기의 약계자 운전은 3차 고조파 성분을 고려하여 수행해야 한다. 약계자 운전에 앞서 정격 이하의 속도에서는 간접벡터제어를 사용하고, 정격이상의 고속 영역에서는 최대 토크 발생과 전압 및 전류 제한 영역을 고려한 약계자 운전을 수행한다. 본 논문에서는 3차 고조파를 고려한 5상 유도전동기의 약계자 운전을 시뮬레이션으로 검증한다.

  • 본 논문에서는 고속 운전을 위하여 IPMSM(Interior Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor)의 약계자 운전을 제시한다. IPMSM 운전을 위한 약계자 제어기는 SMO(Sliding Mode Observer)를 통한 추정 속도와 실제 전동기의 속도를 비교하여 나타나는 오차값을 피드백 받아서 이용한다. 기본적으로 속도 오차가 없는 상황에서는 MTPA(Maximum Torque Per Amp.)에서 동작 시키고 속도 오차가 증가하면 이 오차에 대해 d축 전류를 음의 방향으로 증가시켜 약계자 제어를 한다. 본 논문에서는 제시한 약계자 운전으로 IPMSM에 적용시험을 한다. 그리고 시험결과를 분석하여 본 논문의 타당성을 입증한다.
