The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of acute forest walking exercise on blood glucose of IGT (impaired glucose tolerance), NIDDM (non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus) in the elderly. There were four groups (n=60): forest walking exercise with IGT group (n=15; $66.21{\pm}4.16$ yrs), forest walking exercise with NIDDM group (n=15; $64.85{\pm}3.23$ yrs), field walking exercise with IGT group (n=15; $67.44{\pm}1.78$ yrs), field walking exercise with NIDDM group (n=15; $65.55{\pm}8.21$ yrs). They were tested on blood glucose levels at the beginning and at the end of each walking exercise. While the forest walking groups (interval + resistance exercise) worked for 40minutes with HRmax 50~60% level, the field walking groups (only aerobic exercise) worked for 40 minutes with HRmax 50~60% level. For data analysis, mean and standard deviation scores were calculated, and paired t-test and ANCOVA test were used. This study resulted in as follows. First, both walking groups showed the significant decrease of blood glucose in impaired glucose tolerance (IGT) after completing each exercise. Second, while the forest walking group showed the significant decrease of blood glucose in insulin dependent diabetes mellitus (NIDDM) after completing the forest exercise, the field walking group did not present any decrease of blood glucose in NIDDM after the field walking exercise. Therefore, the present findings suggest that the forest walking exercise as an interval and resistance exercise may be more effective to decrease blood glucose for IGT and NIDDM peoples in comparison to the field walking exercise as an aerobic exercise.

This experiment was carried out to evaluate the effects of organic content and to select lodging resistance for six varieties in paddy field of Chungnam province from 2006 to 2007. In this experiment, plant height was increased at the high fertile field and dry matter rate (%) per fresh matter was decreased at the high fertile soil condition but dry matter rate (%) of spike was increased. The dry matter (DM) yield showed higher in Sunwoo barley (13,520kg/ha) and Youngyang barley (12,780kg/ha) at the high fertile field. Fresh yield was also high in Wooho barely (34,720kg/ha) and Youngyang barely (33,670kg/ha) at the high fertile field but yield in high and normal fertile soil condition was not difference. Total digestible nutrients (TDN) content of Youngyang barley and Yuyeon barley was high as 69.5%, 70.3%, respectively, at the high fertile soil condition. According to this result Soman barley and Youngyang barley might be recommendable for whole crop barely in lower organic content condition of paddy rice field and Wooho barley and Soman barley with the lodging resistance and high yield is suitable for paddy field with high organic content.
Bacterial isolates TRL2-3 and TRK2-2 showing anti-fungal activity in vitro test against some plant pathogens were identified as Pseudomonas putida and Micrococcus luteus, respectively. Pre-treatment with both bacterial isolates at the concentration 1.0$\times$$10^7$ and $10^6$cfu/ml in the rhizosphere could trigger induced systemic resistance in the aerial part of cucumber plants against anthracnose caused by Colletotrichum orbiculare. However, the pre-treatment with the higher concentration at 1.0 $\times$$10^8$ cfu/ml of both isolates could not induce resistance after challenge inoculation with C. orbiculare. As a positive control, the treatment with DL-3 amino butyric acid caused a remarkable reduction of disease severity whereas the lesions on the leaves of untreated plants developed apparently after the fungal inoculation. From these results, it was recomended that disease control using both bacterial isolates inducing systemic resistance in the field where chemical application is forbid.
PURPOSES : Surface treatment is a favorable method in the pavement preventive maintenance. This study (Part I) aimed to develop the low viscosity filling material for waterproof characteristics and high penetrable and weather resistance, and a series of companion study (Part II) presents the coating characteristics and performance analysis using field and lab tests. METHODS : Hydrophobic characteristics of the advanced surface treatment material are observed and measured the filling depth and the permeability for sand and asphalt pavement specimen using the water absorption test and permeability test, X-RAY CT test. Color difference for the weather resistance using ultraviolet ray accelerated weathering test is compared with asphalt pavement specimens. RESULTS : The developed material shows the decreased water absorption and increased impermeable effect because of the hydrophobic characteristics. It is found that the filling depth is about 6mm and weather resistance is better than asphalt pavement specimen. CONCLUSIONS : The advanced hydrophobic - low viscosity filling treatment material is developed in this study (Part I) to improve the waterproof characteristics and high filling capacity and weather resistance for the pavement preventive maintenance.
This study investigated the steady-flow effects present in the numerical computation of the resistance added to a ship in waves. For a ship advancing in the forward direction, a time-domain 3D Rankine panel method is applied to solve the ship motion problem, and the added resistance due to waves is calculated using a near-field method, with the direct integration of the second-order pressure on the hull surface. In the linear potential theory, the steady flow is approximated by the basis potential of a uniform flow or double-body flow in order to linearize the boundary conditions. By applying these two different linearization schemes, the coupling effects between steady and unsteady solutions were examined. Furthermore, in order to analyze the steady-flow effects on the hull geometry, the computation results for two realistic hull forms, a KVLCC2 tanker and DTC containership, were compared. In particular, the mj term, which represents the coupling effects under the body boundary condition, was evaluated considering the geometry of a non-wall-sided ship. Lastly, the characteristics of the linearization schemes were examined in relation to the disturbed waves around a ship and the components of added resistance.
Bipolar plate is the main part with MEA in automotive PEMFC. It must have a good electrical conductivity and excellent corrosion resistance, be cost effective. Therefore, stainless steels have been studied by many researchers because of its corrosion resistance and cost benefits. But their properties are not sufficient for the application to bipolar plate for automotive PEMFC. In this work, we have performed stamping using various commercial stainless steels to select candidate material for biploar plate and to derive design parameters for stamping simulation. The results showed that a small curvature at the corner of flow field is more favorable due to easier a plastic deformation. Stamping process was simulated by changing surface condition, and the size and angle of channel. The optimum shape and spring back phenomena were evaluated. Surface coating was applied to increase the corrosion resistance and electrical conductivity of stainless steel. The electrical interfacial resistance was 10 to $15m{\Omega}cm^2$ under clamping force of 150psi. But corrosion resistance of coating on the stainless steel was not good due to the unstableness of microstructure.
A sequential planting method was developed to screen rice plants with durable resistance against rice blast in a short time, and applied for several years in Korean rice breeding program. In this study, we showed the advantages of a sequential planting method compared to other pathogenicity tests. The correlation analysis among three pathogenicity tests and other factors demonstrated that durable resistance depended on the average of diseased leaf area and the number of compatible pathogens. Significant correlations were found in the nursery test but not in the field test result. In addition, we traced changes in the pathogen population during sequential planting stages through re-isolation of the pathogen. The portion of compatible pathogens was increased during sequential planting. Through this study, we provide an effective sequential planting method and direction of durable resistance in a breeding program.

The interfacial thermal resistance of pristine and defective carbon nanotubes (CNTs) embedded in low-density polyethylene matrix is studied in this paper. Interface thermal resistance in nanosystems is one of the most important factors that lead to the large variation in thermal conductivities in literature and the novelty of this paper lies in the estimation of the interfacial thermal resistance for defective nanotubes-systems. Thermal properties of CNT nanostructures are estimated using molecular dynamics (MD) simulations and the simulations were carried out for various temperatures by rescaling the velocities of carbon atoms in the nanotube. This paper also deals with the mesoscale thermal conductivities of composite systems, using effective medium theories by considering the size effect in the form of interfacial thermal resistance and also using the conventional micromechanical methods like Hashin-Shtrikman bounds and Wakashima-Tsukamoto estimates.
This study performed simulation tests to prevent induced lightning that occurs to a 22.9 kV-Y distribution line. A simulated distribution line reduced to 1/50 of an actual distribution line was installed to measure the induced voltage according to the change in grounding resistance. It was found that the induced voltage increased as the grounding resistance increased but that the range of its increase was small. This study examined the reliability of the proposed lightning preventive distribution line using the Minitab program (Minitab 17). When a grounding resistance of $300{\Omega}$ was maintained for each electric pole, the Anderson Darling (AD) was 0.410, the smallest, and the P value was analyzed to be 0.323, verifying that the reliability and stability were excellent. Therefore, these results will be utilized as a basis for the substantiation of a lightning preventive distribution line before its installation.
Tobacco plants(Nicotiana tabacum cv. NC82) transformed with TMV CP cDNA were self-fertilized until 8th generation (R$_{8}$), and the transgenic plants from 6th to 8th generation were analized for their resistance to tobacco mosaic virus(TMV) and stability of the gene expression. The 6th generation of the plants(R$_{6}$) showed high resistance(81-91 %) to TMV at eight weeks after artificial inoculation with the virus. The transgenic cell line 601 was the most prominant in the expression of resistance. 98 % of the plants showed no symptom without any agronomic phynotepe variation when they were inoculated with the virus in a experimental field. However, 2% of the plants were revealed as delay type of symptom with mild mosaic on a few leaves. The viral resistance in greenhouse tests of the 7th generation (R$_{7}$) was 54-64%, and the number of delay type plants were increased than that of 6th generation plants. In the 8th generation, 81 % of the plants was complete resistant to the virus. The TMV CP cDNA of the transgenic plants of each generation was also confirmed by genomic PCR, and there was no systemic viral multiplication in the resistant plants. It suggests that the viral resistance and gene expression of the transgenic plants might be stable through the generations.ons.s.
