A series of tests in an ice tank was carried out using a model-scale ship to investigate the ice loading process. The ship model Uikku was mounted on a rigid carriage and towed through a level ice field in the ice tank of the Marine Technology Group at Aalto University. The carriage speed and ice thickness were varied. In this paper, ice loading process was described and the corresponding ice forces on the horizontal plane were analysed. A new method is proposed to decompose different ice force components from the total ice forces measured in the model tests. This analysis method is beneficial to understanding contributions of each force component and modelling of ice loading on hulls. The analysed experimental results could be used for comparison with further numerical simulations.

In this paper, the Coefficient of Subgrade Reaction was analyzed from the data which were the results of lateral pile loading tests and pressuremeter tests on construction sites. The prediction method with N-value was compared with lateral pile loading tests and the results of lateral pile loading tests were compared with the prediction method considering diameter of a pile. Also, the results of lateral pressuremeter tests were compared with those of lateral pile loading tests. As a result, consideration for a diameter and lateral deformation of a pile was needed when the coefficient of horizontal subgrade reaction is presumed. Therefore, a formula which is taking into account the allowable deformation of a pile was suggested from lateral pressuremeter tests in this study.

The response of a bridge can be influenced by span length, bridge's surface condition, vehicle's weight, and vehicle's velocity. It is difficult to predict accurate behavior of a bridge. In the current standard of specifications, such dynamic effect is defined by impact factor and prescribed to consider live load as to increase design load by means of multiplying this value by live load. However, it is not well understood because the Impact factor method differs from every country. Dynamic, static and pseudo-staitic field loading tests on PSC-I girder bridges were carried out to find out the dynamic property of the bridge. This paper is aimed to figure out actual dynamic property of the bridge by using field loading test. An empirical method based on impact factor is widely used and also argued. Displacement and strain response measured from the tests was compared with one from the empirical method. The former seems to be reasonable since it can consider actual response of a bridge through field tests.
In this study, experiments were tried on the mixed-mode I+II single overloading model which changes the loading mode of overload and fatigue load. Aspects of deformation field in front of the crack which is formed by mixed-mode I+II single overloading were experimentally studied. Then the shape and size of mixed-mode plastic zone were approximately calculated. The propagation behavior of fatigue crack was examined under the test conditions combined by changing the loading mode. The behavior of fatigue cracks were greatly affected by shapes of plastic deformation field and applying mode of fatigue load. Accuracy of prediction and evaluation for fatigue life may be improved by considering all aspects of deformation and behavior of fatigue cracks.

The scale effect should be considered to determine the bearing capacity and settlement of footings from Plate-Load Test, because of the size difference between a footing and a loading plate. To analyze characteristics of bearing capacity and settlement according to the difference of loading plate sizes, model tests were peformed with four different sizes of square plate, which is B=10, 15, 20 and 25cm respectively, on five different kinds of subsoil, which is pure sand(100:0), sand-clay mixed soil(75:25, 50:50, 25:75), and pure clay(0:100). Based on the analyzed results, this paper also proposed a method of bearing capacity and settlement determination, where scale effect is considered depending on the mixing ratio of sand and clay. Applying the formular proposed in this research to field problems, it is expected that evaluation of bearing capacity and settlement of footings can be more reliable and more economic construction can be achieved.
The evaluation of the degree of compaction of the embankment area, which accounts for most of highway earthworks, is generally performed by a flat plate loading test. The plate loading test is a traditional test method and has high reliability in the field. However, as reaction force equipment must be carried out and it takes about 40 minutes per site during the test, there may be limitations in managing the entire expanse of earthworks. Meanwhile, in order to overcome this, the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport proposed a simple method of evaluating the level of compactness in the provisional guidelines for compaction management of the packaging infrastructure in 2010. However, it has not been utilized at the highway construction site until now, 10 years later. Therefore, this study attempted to verify the utility of the compaction evaluation method using LFWD (Light Falling Weight Deflectometer) of the impact loading method among the test methods suggested in the provisional guideline. To this end, the correlation was derived by conducting a plate loading test and an LFWD test for each site property and compaction degree. As a result of the test, there was no consistency of test data in the ground with a relative compaction of 80% or less. However, it was confirmed that the correlation has a tendency to increase beyond that. If the test method or test equipment is improved to ensure the consistency of the test values of the impact loading method in the future, it will play a big role in solving the blind spot for compaction management in the earthworks.
The primary function of the trackbed in a conventional railway track system is to decrease the stresses in the subgrade to be in an acceptable level. A properly designed trackbed layer performs this task adequately. Many design procedures have used assumed and/or are based on critical stiffness values of the layers obtained mostly in the field to calculate an appropriate thickness of the sublayers of the trackbed foundation. However, those stiffness values do not consider strain levels clearly and precisely in the layers. This study proposes a method of computation of stiffness that can handle with strain level in the layers of the trackbed foundation in order to provide properly selected design values of the stiffness of the layers. The shear modulus values are dependent on shear strain level so that the strain levels generated in the subgrade in the trackbed under wheel loading and below plate of Repeated Plate Bearing Test (RPBT) are investigated by finite element analysis program ABAQUS and PLAXIS programs. The strain levels generated in the subgrade from RPBT are compared to those values from RC (Resonant Column) test after some consideration of strain levels and stress consideration. For comparison of shear modulus G obtained from RC test and stiffness moduli $E_{v2}$ obtained from RPBT in the field, many numbers of mid-size RC tests in laboratory and RPBT in field were performed extensively. It was found in this study that there is a big difference in stiffness modulus when the converted $E_{v2}$ values were compared to those values of RC test. It is verified in this study that it is necessary to use precise and increased loading steps to construct nonlinear curves from RPBT in order to get correct $E_{v2}$ values in proper strain levels.

In the present study, a series of static load test and fatigue test were carried out to investigate the behavior of the CRCP. The specimens were sized to 25% of real one lane CRCP. The fatigue tests were carried out for the repetitive load as much as 16%, 39%, 40%, 48%, 59% and 78% of the max. static load for the center or corner loading. Compared the field test with laboratory test for FWD, it is an equpment useful to maintance and manage of the concrete pavements.
Among soft ground treatment methods with granular soil used in domestic, the sand compaction pile method has been utilized greatly, but, as a result of exhaustion of sand and increase of unit cost, the necessity of an alternative method is suggested. In this study, the static load tests for crushed-stone compaction piles which were constructed on test field were performed. Based on test results, stress concentration ratios between the crushed-stone compaction pile and the soft ground were investigated and estimated. At loading pressure, settlement showed decreasing tendency as replacement rate increases. At replacement rate of 20%, yield pressure was smaller but, at replacement rates of 30% and 40%, settlement and yield pressure were similar. The stress concentration ratio was within the range of 1.7 to 3.0 and it was higher as replacement rate increased.

In this study, the load distribution and deformation of rock-socketed drilled shafts subjected to axial load are investigated based on small scale model tests. In order to analyze the effects of major influencing factors of end bearing capacity, Hoek-cell triaxial tests were performed. From the test results, it was found that the initial slope of end bearing load transfer (q-w) curve was highly dependent on rock mass modulus and pile diameter, while the ultimate unit toe resistance ($q_{max}$) was influenced by rock mass modulus and the spacing of discontinuities. End bearing load transfer function of drilled shafts socketed in rock was proposed based on the Hoek-cell triaxial test results and the field loading tests which were performed on granite and gneiss in South Korea. Through the comparison with pile load tests, it is found that the load-transfer curve by the present study is in good agreement with the general trend observed by field loading tests, and thus represents a significant improvement in the prediction of load transfer of drilled shaft.
