This research compares the difference of each preference segments' subjective hands and sensibilities in order to analyze the correlations among preference, subjective hands, and sensibilities. Preference segments were classified into wool, acrylic, and long stitch length-preferred clusters in previous research. To evaluate the subjective hands and sensibilities of knit fabrics, the 20's and 30's women rated twelve knit fabrics by touching, using a questionnaire with a seven-point semantic differential scale. These twelve knit fabrics were differentiated by controlling the mixture ratio and stitch length using a computer-controlled automatic flat knit machine. The difference of each preference segments' subjective hands and sensibilities was determined using the conjoint analysis. The clusters perceived the subjective hands and sensibilities differently according to preferred constituent characteristics. There was no correlation between surface unevenness and preference in wool-preferred cluster, while there were negative correlations in other clusters. The acrylic-preferred cluster had a preference in coolness compared to other clusters; in addition, the long stitch-preferred cluster preferred flexibility/bulkiness and extensibility than the others. All clusters preferred modem and natural sensibilities that were caused by different constituent characteristics of knit fabrics.
The work-man's uniform should be coincident wit the image of his firm and accounted of the function according as its purpose. We made questions to 404 workers at 8 firm in our country through the questionnaire papers to know about a work-man's uniform and researched whether the satisfactory in wearing his uniform had relation with his type of business, grade, carrier, age, marriage, and monthly income. The results of this study is as follows; 1. In the uniform status of the fir, thee were many jumper styles in he design of the uniform. The color of that was more dark than bright and the materials of one was used much more chemical fiber than natural fiber. Each of the field office supplied the uniform to his work-man more frequently than the main office. All of firm payed off the uniform expense and decision of the uniform design was almost made both the firm and the labour union. 2. In he satisfaction of the uniform, the satisfaction of uniform was shown high in the design, color, materials, size and function. The highest dissatisfaction reason is as follows; it was disagreeable to concrete design in the design and dark color and keeping warm or draft was bad in the materials, the bust and pant's length was long in the size. 3. In preference of the uniform, the older of preference in the design was what the working environment and the image of firm was suitable, the characteristic uniform. The order of preference in the color was beige, blue, grey. The preference of in the materials was good to keep warm and draft. The preference in the pattern was 'no pattern' every type of business. The experts, or administrators and office workers than others preferred 'no pattern' of the uniform in the pattern.
This research was designed to investigate the preference to textiles for slacks of college students. 105 subjects majored in fashion design were surveyed. Subjects selected three favorite materials among 120 samples presented in swatch book and weighted frequency and percentage were added by order. The extent of preference was compared by season and sex. The results of this study were as follows: 1. College students preferred twill cotton Drill foremost as a textile for spring and fall season. 2. Plain linen Crash was the most preferred material for summer. 3. Cotton Corduroy was the most preferred textile for winter. 4. In thickness and weight, textiles for winter were thicker and heavier than those of other seasons. 5. In fiber content, natural fiber such as wool were preferred for all seasons. 6. In weave of textiles, twill weave fabric was preferred for spring fall and winter season, and plain weave for summer. 7. College students preferred plain texture materials foremost and navy blue and black color was preferred for textiles for slacks. 8. Girl students preferred cotton fabrics and boys preferred wool fabric for slacks. Also, girls generally preferred thinner fabrics than those of boys.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of the structural properties of plain knit fabrics on the subjective perception of textures, sensibilities, and preference among consumers. This study, then, aimed to provide useful information with respect to planning and designing knitted fabrics by predicting the subjective characteristics analyzed according to their structural properties. For this purpose, we employed statistical analysis tools, such as factor and regression analysis and an adaptive-network-based fuzzy inference system(ANFIS), thereby combining the merits of fuzzy and neural networks and presupposing a non-linear relationship. Through factor analysis, we also categorized the subjective textures into 'roughness', 'softness', 'bulkiness' and 'stretch-ability' with R2=70.32%: and categorized the sensibilities into 'Stable/Neat', 'Natural/Comfortable' and 'Feminine/Elegant' with R2=68.12%. We analyzed subjective textures, sensibilities, and preference with ANFIS, assuming non-linear relationships; consequently, we were able to generate three or four fuzzy rules using wool/rayon fiber content and loop length as input data. The textures of roughness and softness exhibited a linear relationship, but other subjective characteristics demonstrated a non-linear input-output relationship. Compared with linear regression analysis, the ANFIS exhibited had higher predictive power with respect to predicting subjective characteristics.
The purpose of this study was to provide basic data for nutritional education for juveniles' desirable vegetable intake by analyzing their vegetable intake, dietary habit and nutrient intakes according to gender of middle school students in Chungnam. The average age of the subjects was 15.0, height was 162.5 cm, weight was 53.5 kg and their average BMI was $20.1kg/m^2$. The frequency of eating supper in girls was lower than that in boys. Many respondents answered that a meal-time was 10~20 minutes. Without gender difference, more than 90% respondents thought that vegetables were good for health. As for the preference of vegetable, subjects responded, "I am in the middle", "I like them", "I dislike them", "I like them very much", and "I dislike them very much" in order, without gender difference. The frequent eaten leaf vegetable was Chinese cabbage, the frequent eaten fruit vegetable was cucumber, and the frequent eaten root vegetable was radish. The favorite leaf vegetable was lettuce, the favorite fruit vegetable was corn, and the favorite root vegetable was sweet potato. The preference degrees of taro and ginger were very low. The reasons why they liked a vegetable were that it was delicious and they ate it at home often. In addition, the reason why they disliked vegetables was that they are untasty in flavor or texture and it showed that many students had a prejudice that vegetables were untasty. The intakes of plant protein, dietary fiber, ash and INQs of dietary fiber, calcium, vitamin C, folate, vitamin E in the group with high preference of vegetables were significantly higher than those of low preference group. The study results indicate that intake frequency and preference of root vegetables in juveniles are low and the major reasons of these results are taste and eating experience of vegetables. In addition, the intake amounts of dietary fiber and folate are poor in the subjects with low preference of vegetables. Therefore, families and schools should make efforts that juveniles can recognize the importance of vegetable intake and select various vegetables properly through the development of cooking methods and systematic nutrition education.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of textile materials on children's clothing purchase according to types of clothings. In addition, textile fiber preference on the types of children's clothings was investigated. The subjects were 307 mothers with preschool children(4-6 yrs) in Seoul. The data were gathered by questionnaire and analyzed by analysis of variance and crosstabulation analysis. The results were as follows. 1) Textile materials were major consideration in purchasing children's clothings especially underwear. 2) There were significant differences in the perception of importance on textile material properties according to types of children's clothings. 3) Preferable fibers varied according to children's clothing types. 4) Relationship between fiber preference on the children's clothing types and demographic variables of mothers was not found except education and income in casual wear.
Sugar snap cookies were prepared with the addition of carrot powder (2~12%) as a source of dietary fiber. Analyses of physiochemical properties, rheology and sensory evaluation of the cookies were conducted. Increasing carrot powder content weakened the flour, as evidenced by decreased diameter and increased thickness, which resulted in decreased spread factor. The water content of the carrot powder-amended cookies and unamended flour was not significantly different. The pH and L values progressively decreased and a and b values progressively increased with increasing addition of carrot powder. Textural analysis revealed no significant differences in brittleness with carrot powder addition, even though brittleness did decrease with the addition of more carrot powder. Sensory evaluation revealed a preference for cookies prepared with 2~4% carrot powder, with decreased preference at powder concentrations exceeding 6%. Addition of a dried vegetable with high fiber content caused the dietary fiber to absorb much water content, resulting in decreased diameter, increased thickness and decreased spread factor. Therefore, it is deemed desirable to increase the spread factor by controlling the water content and adding emulsifiers so as to enhance the functionality and maintain the quality of cookies.
This study investigated the effect of taste preference(sweet, sour, salty, hot) on anthropometric measurements and nutrient intakes of 256 primary school children in Kwangju. There was no significant difference in the anthropometric measurements according to the sweet taste preference. Height, weight, triceps, abdomen, and chest circumferences of the group preferring a sour taste, however, were significantly lower than those of the other groups. The height of the group preferring a salty taste was significantly shorter than that of the other groups and there was a tendency toward high systolic blood pressure and diastolic blood pressure. The waist circumference of the group not preferring the hot taste was larger than those of the other groups. There was no significant difference in the energy intake according to the sweet taste preference. The protein intake of the group preferring a sweet taste as significantly lower than that of the other groups. The fiber intake of the group preferring a sour taste was significantly higher than that of the other groups. There were no significant differences in the nutrient intakes according to the salty taste preference. The energy intake of the group preferring a hot taste was lower than that of the other groups. The results show that children's taste preferences influence anthropometric measurements and nutrient intakes. These results suggest that children's eating behaviors are in needs of correction. The findings of this study should be applied to nutrition education to ensure better physical fitness of children.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the mutual relationship between food preference and nutrient intake status of high school students, based on the their personal characters which are sex, age, family type, number of family, mother's age, occupation, and school career. 439 students were selected with random stratified cluster sampling method. The study used a self-administrated questionnaire and 24-hour recall method for 5 days as instrument tools. Statistical methods applied to analyze the data were frequency, percent, Willcoxon Rank-sum test, Kruskal-Wallis test, ${x^2}-test$ by contingence table, and Spearman's correlation coefficient in non parametric statistical methods. Some of interesting results are as follows : 1. The correlation between sex and the set of characters of mother's age, school career and income is highly significant. However there is no any significant difference on the kinds of job and the types of family. 2. The relation between the preference of main dishes and the nutrient intake show a significant difference except to the noodles. This marks that preference of main dishes shows a direct proportion with the nutrient intakes except for the fat, vitamin A, vitamin C. 3. The preference of animal food marks a direct proportion with the nutrients such as energy, protein, fat, fiber, phosphorus, iron, vitamin $B_{1}$, vitamin $B_{2}$, and niacin 4. The preference of vegetable food gives some influence on the nutrient intake but the preference of soup is insignificant, the preference of Kimchi is in reverse proportion, and the preference of vegetable marks a direct proportion with the nutrient intake. 5. The preference of snacks marks a direct proportion with all kinds of nutrients intake except for the vitamin A, and vitamin C.
Food intake of birds can be affected by particle size as well as diet composition, In order to investigate whether food intake of diets including excessive amount of phenyalanine(Phe) was influenced by diet types. a series of experiments were conducted in growing chicks and laying hens. Growing chicks significantly decreased food intake in a semipurified excessive Phe diet compared with a semipurified control diet, while laying hens fed a practical diet including excess Phe did not significantly reduce their food intake over a corn starch-substituted control diet. In an attempt to find out whether diet type affects food intake in layers, the semipurified type diet with excess Phe greatly reduced food ingestion, but the effect was delayed in the practical type diet. Moreover, under choice feeding regimes between the Phe and either starch, tyrosine(Tyr) or fiber diets in order to investigate whether the decreased food intake in the presence of an excess of dieary Phe in laying hens is involved in the palatability for the diet, there was no significant difference between Phe and starch diet while a preference for the Phe diet tended to be increased when birds were offered Tyr. Laying hens ingested significantly more the Phe diet than the fiber diet within 1 h after feeding. For supporting the idea that preference for the Phe diet may be affected by manipulating taste sense, an anaesthetic or saline was intramuscularly administered under the tongue just before a choice feeding. Preference for the Phe diet was not significantly different from that for the fiber reference diet within 1 h in the anaesthetized birds while the birds preferred the Phe diet in the saline treated group. It is suggested that because birds are able to select a diet, the decreased food intake induced by dietary excess Phe may be due to the repulsive effect of Phe after ingestion but not the taste of Phe.
