This paper presents the results of an experimental analysis of the high-power laser (HPL)-induced damage to a complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor. Although the laser-induced damages to metallic materials have been sufficiently investigated, the damages to electric-optic imaging systems, which are very sensitive to HPLs, have not been studied in detail. In this study, we experimentally analyzed the HPL-induced damages to a CMOS image sensor. A near-infrared continuous-wave (CW) fiber laser was used as the laser source. The influences of the irradiance and irradiation time on the permanent damages to a CMOS image sensor, such as the color error and breakdown, were investigated. The experimental results showed that the color error occurred first, and then the breakdown occurred with an increase in the irradiance and irradiation time. In particular, these damages were more affected by the irradiance than the irradiation time.
Exhaled breath gases include gases generated in the body. When there is disease in the body, exhalation can include gas components from the disease. If we can find these specific elements through analysis of the exhalation gases, this can be an effective way to diagnose the disease. The lung has a close relationship with exhalation. Lung cancer refers to malignant tumors which originate in the lungs. Exhalation from the lung causes direct jets of gas to be ejected through the mouth and nose, so by analyzing these jets it may be possible to diagnose lung cancer. In our study we attempt to diagnose lung cancer from patient's exhaled gases. Exhalation of lung cancer patients was analyzed using gas chromatography-mass spectroscopy(GC-MS) and the expiratory gas was also measured using a sensor system. The system was designed to use a metal oxide sensor and solid phase micro extraction(SPME) fiber. The GC-MS analysis of the healthy subject's and cancer patient's exhalation gases both showed the presence of decane in the breath of patients with lung cancer. In addition, the results from the sensor system showed significant difference between the lung cancer patients and the healthy subjects.
In the past, there was a theory that influenza wasn't transmitted directly from birds but was infected to humans via swains. Recently, molecular level research has progressed, and it was confirmed that the avian influenza virus can directly infected to human lung and intestinal epithelial cells. Three pandemicsin the past 100 years were also infected to humans directly from birds. In view of such scientific background, we are developing a method for screening sick birds by monitoring the physiological characteristics of birds in a contactless manner with sensors. Here, the movement of respiratory muscles and abdominal muscles under autonomic innervation was monitored using a magnet and Hall sensor sewn on the thoracic wall, and other multimedia devices. This paper presents and discusses the results of experiments involving continuous periodic noise discovered during flight experiments with a data logger mounted on a Japanese pheasant from 2012 to 2015. A brief summary is given as the below: 1. Magnet and Hall sensor sewn to the left and right chest walls, bipolar electrocardiograms between the thoracic walls, posterior thoracic air sac pressure, angular velocity sensors sewn on the back and hips, and optical reflection of LEDs (blue and green) from the skin of the hips allow observation of periodic vibrations(fasciculations) in the waves. No such analysis has been reported before. 2. These fasciculations are presumed to be derived from muscle to maintain and control air sac pressure. 3. Since each muscle fiber is spatially Gaussian distributed from the sympathetic nerve, the envelope is assumed to plot a Gaussian curve. 4. Since avian trunk muscles contract periodically at all time, we assume that the sympathetic nerve dominates in their control. 5. The technique of sewing a magnet to the thoracic wall and measuring the strength of the magnetic field with a Hall sensor can be applied to screen for early stage of avian influenza, with a sensor attached to the chicken enclosure.

An experimental procedure to identify failure modes of impact damage using sensor signals and to analyze their general features is examined. A series of low-velocity impact tests from low energy to damage-induced high energy were performed on the instrumented drop weight impact tester to monitor the stress wave signals due to failure modes such as matrix cracking, delamination, and fiber breakage. The wavelet transform(WT) and Short Time Fourier Transform(STFT) are used to decompose the piezoelectric sensor signals in this study. The extent of the damage in each case was examined by means of a conventional ultrasonic C-scan. The PVDF sensor signals are shown to carry important information regarding the nature of the impact process that can be extracted from the careful signal processing and analysis.

In the using of FBG(Fiber Bragg Grating) developed in home land, we designed and manufactured united FBG acoustic transducers the first in Korea. they are being applied to multi-point signal detection of FBG Hydrophone used Hopper WDM(national patent NO 10-1502954) in the underwater. On united FBG transducers manufactured, we made an demonstrated on respective frequency response peculiarities in the underwater and analyzed the special characters. As the experimental result on frequency response peculiarities, we made it possible underwater acoustic detection on united FBG acoustic transducers type to maximum 30Hz~2.5KHz. it's the optimum conditions of 1.2KHz frequency in detection. And for the purpose of realization on multi-point signal detection on wide scope in the underwater, in the using of WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing) method and passive band-pass filter system, established arrays system and succeeded in multi-point underwater acoustic signal detection to the frequency 200Hz~1.3KHz out of the two united type FBG transducers. Additionally, it would be possible directivity detection for the object of its source as the intensity of detection signal varies with the sound source's direction and angle. From now on we prepared a new moment on the practical use study on FBG hydrophone in the future.
Collapse of the levee surrounding structure(culvert) accounts for l0 % of collapse factors of the river levees. In particular, in 2002, the levee collapse that happened at "Nakdong River" at flood usually happened around culverts. This levee collapse has mechanism that the cavity expands with internal erosion at flood after the pore and cavity are formed between culvert and levee copula which are heterogeneity material. The study regarding the cavity or flowing detection around a culvert for safety management of a river levee is in the proceeding. In this study, the characteristic of two sensors could be figured out through an experiment about displacement measure of Flex sensor and FBG sensor and the decision of more suitable sensor was possible for safety supervision of river levee. According to an experiment result, several characteristics of FBG sensor could be known in consistency of the measure data and minute displacement measure part regarding displacement measure and this characteristic may supplement a shortcoming of Flex sensor at this time.

A composite structure was fabricated with embedded impact detection capabilities for applications in Structural Health Monitoring (SHM). By embedding sensor functionality in the composite, the structure can successfully perform impact localization in real time. Smart resin, composed of $Pb(Ni_{1/3}Nb_{2/3})O_3-Pb(Zr,\;Ti)O_2$ (PNN-PZT) powder and epoxy resin with 1:30 wt%, was used instead of conventional epoxy resin in order to activate the sensor function in the composite structure. The embedded impact sensor in the composite was fabricated using Hand Lay-up and Vacuum Assisted Resin Transfer Molding(VARTM) methods to inject the smart resin into the glass-fiber fabric. The electrodes were fabricated using silver paste on both the upper and bottom sides of the specimen, then poling treatment was conducted to activate the sensor function using a high voltage amplifier at 4 kV/mm for 30 min at room temperature. The composite's piezoelectric sensitivity was measured to be 35.13 mV/N by comparing the impact force signals from an impact hammer with the corresponding output voltage from the sensor. Because impact sensor functionality was successfully embedded in the composite structure, various applications of this technique in the SHM industry are anticipated. In particular, impact localization on large-scale composite structures with complex geometries is feasible using this composite embedded impact sensor.
We fabricated a sensor head which consists of spliced different-diameter fiber gratings for discrimination between strain and temperature. Because the fibers were drawn from the same preform, their temperature characteristics were the same but not for strain sensitivities which are inversely proportional to fibers cross-sectional areas. In measurement range of 0-1500$\mu$strain and 20-10$0^{\circ}C$, we could obtain, by using the matrix calculation, the unknown physical quantities within 10% of calculation error compared with the micrometer and thermocouple values. To improve the strain measurement accuracy, we suggest a new, novel method which deploys an unbalanced fiber Mach-Zehnder interferometer. This new signal processing technique converts the strain information to interference signal amplitude variation, temperature-independently. we obtained measurement accuracy nearly 80 times better than that obtainable with the conventional optical spectrum analyzer usage.
In this paper, in order to analyze property of frequency response in optical microphone, system was implemented. The capacitance microphone and fiber-optic transmission path type fiber-optic microphone (FOM) have weaknesses in directivity, size, weight, and price. However suggested optical microphone can be constituted by cheap devices, so it has many benefits like small size, light weight, high directivity, etc. Head part of optical microphone which is suggested in this paper is movable back and forth by sound pressure with the attached reflection plate. Operating point is determined by measuring the respond characteristics and choosing the point on which has maximum linearity and sensitivity while changing the distance between optical head and vibrating plate. We measured the output of the O/E transformed signal of the optical microphone while frequency of sound signal is changed using sound measurement/analysis program, Smaart Live and USBPre, which are based on PC, and compared the result from an existing capacitance microphone. The measured Optical microphone showed almost similar output characteristics as those of the compared condenser microphone, and its bandwidth performance was about 300[Hz]-3[kHz] at up to 3 [dB].

The speckle pattern is formed by laser light from a multimode optical fiber. The speckle fluctuation is the result of interference among propagation modes when the optical fiber is subjected to a mechanical perturbation at any point along its length. The experiments were carried on for the study of the feasibility of producing an intrusion detection system using the speckle fluctuation. The speckle fluctuation signals were monitored at real time by an oscilloscope which was connected with a rectifier and a FVC. We used a jig as a PD holder to improve the sensitivity of speckle phenomena and simplify its structure. So we can know the time and magnitude of perturbation.
