  • The soild phase microextraction(SPME)fiber which contains 100${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ polydimethyl siloxane of a stationary phase was used for the analysis of volatile organic compounds contained in aqueous solution. volatile organic compounds, which were spiked in blank water and extracted by the headspace SPME techique, were analyzed by gas chromatography/flame ionization detector(GC/FID). The optimu condition of SPME fiber is determined that the analytes were extracted for 40min from extracts by using PDAfS100${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ fiber. This new method could have wide application for the analysis of VOCs in aqueous solution.

  • In recent years, compression molding of fiber-reinforced thermoplastics has been increased in commercial aspects. During a compression molding process of composites, the flow analysis must be developed in order to accurately predict the finished part properties as a function of the molding process parameters. In this paper, a new model is presented which can be used to predict the flow under consideration of the slip of mold-composites and extensional & shear viscosity ratio M and slip parameter$\alpha$ on the mold filling parameters are discussed.

  • Irregular fluctuation of penetration depth in CW single mode fiber laser welding is analyzed statistically and chaotically. Among various chaos theories, one of the basic concept referred as Lyapunov exponent is applied to the analysis to quantify the irregularity of penetration. Especially, maximal Lyapunov exponent (MLE) is known as the representative value indicating chaotic degree of the system dynamics. MLE calculation method of experimental data is applied to longitudinal spiking defect in fiber laser weld. Laser power modulation is suggested as a remedy then the computed MLE value is compared to CW case. It is shown that the adoption of chaos theory, MLE computation, can be used as a measurement standard to prove the validity of the solutions to prevent the unexpected chaotic behavior of weld through this work.

  • In this paper, FEM analysis is performed in order to estimate the behavior of RC columns retrofitted with Carbon Fiber Sheet(CFS). Two node truss element and four node isometric plate bond element are used for modeling the CFS and the adhesion between concrete and CFS, respectively. Five specimens with different quantity of CFS are analyzed and compared with experimental results. From the comparison, analytical results show a good agreement with the test results. Therefore, it is advisable to use the FEM used in this paper to predict the behavior of columns with CFS.

  • This investigation attempts to analyze the flexural behavior of a strengthened beam with carbon fiber sheets in three stages according to the conditions of the constituents : elastic stage, pre-yielding stage, and post-yielding stage. The proposed analytical method for strengthened beams is compared with the experimental results such as yield load, ultimate load, and flexural rigidities. The contributions of the constituents to the strengthened beam capacity are examined from the flexural analysis. The validity of using KCI strength method to estimate ultimate moment of a strengthened beam is also investigated.

  • Linear density regularity is one of the important characteristics of fiber bundle and yarns, influencing the process performance and the product quality. Analysis on the variation of bundle thickness for various draft ratios and frequencies is therefore of great significance, because an optimum drafting condition can be obtained by establishing the effect of major process factors on the output. • In the present study, polyester-melamine coating systems with natural wood fiber (NWF) were prepared and the effects of NWF on the corrosion protectiveness of the polyester-melamine coating were examined using EIS analysis. From the results, higher average surface roughness was observed with increase of NWF content. Water diffusivity and water uptake into the polyester-melamine coatings with NWF were much higher than that into the pure polyester-melamine coating. The decrease in the impedance modulus |Z| was associated with the localized corrosion on carbon steel, confirming that corrosion protection of the polyester-melamine coatings with NWF well agrees with its water transport behavior.

  • Interfacial stress singularity in a unidirectional two-dimensional laminate model consisting of an elastic fiber and a viscoelastic matrix has been investigated using the time-domain boundary element method. First, the interfacial singular stresses between the fiber and the matrix of a unidirectional laminate subjected to a uniform transverse tensile strain have been investigated near the free surface, but without any defect or any edge crack. Such a stress singularity might lead to fiber-matrix debonding or interfacial edge cracks. Then, the overall stress intensity factor for the case of a small interfacial edge crack of length a has been computed.

  • This paper highlights the experimental and numerical investigations performed on a tubular T-joint fabricated from circular hollow sections under axial compressive loads applied at the brace. Tests were performed on a reference joint and the joint wrapped with Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP). The Nitowrap EP carbon fiber with Nitowrap 410 resin serve as a composite material is used for wrapping the T-joint. Schematic diagram of the fabricated tubular joint for the experimental test setup, along with the experimental and numerical results are presented. After performing these experiments, it has been demonstrated that the joint wrapped with CFRP has a better strength and lesser deflection than a reference joint. Finite element analysis carried out in Ansys reveals that the results were in good correlation with the experimental values.

  • The aim of this study is to define the condition of optimal pre-treatment for preferable activated carbon fibers (ACFs), which are based on rayon fibers. This paper shows the ideal path of ACFs preparation process; implies that rayon fibers are pre-treated by various solvents with different times before the heating process. The pre-treated rayon fibers finally turned into desirable rayon fiber-based ACFs through optimal pre-treatment condition by heating processes. The thermal analysis method of pre-treated rayon fibers by thermo-gravimetry analyser (TGA) is an idealized tool, which analyzes the best thermal condition of pre-treatment process. Surface morphologies of resulting rayon fibers based ACFs were examined by scanning electron microscope(SEM). The results of TGA and SEM analyses show that the optimal pre-treatment condition for preparing ACFs was clearly defined, in terms of thermal stability and surface morphology.
