The experiment was carried out to make clear the root characters and relationships among some quantitative characters of soybeans. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Stem diameter was shown the greater growing in thickness after one month from sowing than the earlier stage, and the greater growing was shown in fertile bed soil than in sand soil. 2. The elongation of plant top in soybean plant was also shown the greater rate in bed soil than in sand soil 3. The length of plant root was longer than the length of plant top in the earlier stage of growing, and the length of root was much greater in sand soil than in fertile bed soil. 4. Weight of plant top was shown more in bed soil than in sand soil, but this tendency was shown more greater rate in the length of plant top than in weight of plant top. 5. Weight of root was more compared with weight of plant top in the earlier stage of growth, and also more greater rate was shown in sand soil than in fertile bed soil. 6. Highly significant correlations were shown among five quantitative characters, namely stem diameter, length of top, weight of top, length of root and weight of root, etc.
In order to obtain some informations on the improvement of fertility of poor red yellow soils widely distributed in hilly lands of Korean peninsula, a pot culture study was made with a hill land soil in comparison with a fertile soil commonly used for vegetables. The results are as follows; 1. In addition to the normal application of phosphate, the mixing of a large dose of fused phosphate with whole soil increased the yeild of chinese cabbage remarkably, having the promotion particulary of the available phosphate level in the acidic low fertility soil. At the sometime the mixing seemed to short down the period of soil maturing to fertile for good crop. It is, however, considered that such effect of fused phosphate must also be evaluated economically through a long term experiment. 2. A relatively close relationship between the soil phosphate soluble in dilute acid and chinese cabbage growth was observed.
1. Chemical components of fresh tobacco leaves at topping stages were affected variously by fertilizer application level. The more fertilizers were applicated, the higher nitrogen content of leaves was shown regardless of the soil fertility, but phosphorus content was not affected either by phosphorus rate or soil fertility. Potassium content was higher in the leaves grown in fertile soil than infertile at the same application rate. 2. Maturation of tobacco leaves was delayed by applying high level of nitrogen fertilizer, especially in fertile soil. The excessive accumulation of nitrogen in tobacco leaves at later stage of growth resulted in poor quality index for the high content of nicotine and low content of reducing sugar in cured leaves. 3. Nicotine content of cured leaf was increased significantly as nitrogen content increased, regardless of soil fertility, but reducing sugar content was reduced. Nicotine and reducing sugar content of cured leaf were higher in fertile than in infertile soil. 4. Resulting from the facts that nicotine contents were negatively correlated and reducing sugar contents were positively correlated with grading value (Won/Kg), authors suggested that grading index (Won/Kg) of the Office of Monopoly be based on quality index from chemical components of cured leaves.

A soybean variety KWANG KYO was planted on the hilly land and fertile soil, and concentrated superphosphate and fused phosphate were applied on calcium hydroxide treated soil at level of 2.5%, 5% and 7.5% of phosphate absorbtion coefficient of soil. Application of phosphate fertilizer and lime caused higher grain yield in hilly land soil than fertile soil. The effect of fused phosphate on soybean yield was superior to concentrated superphosphate, and the effect of lime on fused phosphate availability was not significant. When the two phosphate sources were compared at equal $P_2O_5$ basis, fused phosphate required higher amount than concentrated super-phosphate. Negative correlation was obtained between potassium content and Ca + Mg in soybean leaf and in soil respectively.
Soil is the most important factor in natural environment for bio-diversity. Urbanization and development of city devastate urban soil by the fraternization of green network and run off pollution. In these facts, preservation of soil is the main issue in maintain of quality urban environment. In order to handle this issue, the gold network that link fragment soil patches is considered in maintain quality soil. This study researched the infiltration Treebox design technique based on the Low Impact Development. This technique suggest reduction of impervious area of the soil due to urbanization. The main concept of this study is encourage more permeable surfaces in urban area by using a infiltration planter. The function of the planter is hold run off as much as possible from intensive rainfall, and utilizes it in drought season. Also, this planter provides fertile soil for organism habitat by keeping appropriate moisture supplying.
The Organic agricultural techinques were investigated through the observations made for 3 years of the actual conditions of a farmer who has been practicing organic agriculture over 21 years. The farmer was a member of the Ichijima-cho Organic Agriculture Association. The Farmer had not performed much of the organic agricultural techinques at the beginning of his farming history. However, he has gradually developed techniques upon the experiences with trial and error. The notable characteristic of his basic organic agriculture was the utilization of a suitable organic fertilizer to make the soil fertile. Crop damages by diseases and insect pests were prevented through a fertile soil, raising of good seedlings, adoption of tolerant varieties and planting at a wide spacing and consequently considering not to use chemical pesticides. Introduction of power weeder for weed control and paddy-upland crop rotation reduced the cost of production for farming. The crop pattern and method of land us such as mix cropping, crop rotation and conversion of paddy field-upland fieldd were appeared to be very important in organic agriculture. The organic agricultural techniques get systematized upon the adaptation the regional ecology and the development of skills of the farmer. The most important point to achieve the success in organic agriculture system is not only by the development of the technical matters but also by the building of healthy relation and understandings between producers and consumers.
There is a growing concern in the United Stares over the environmental and human health implications associated with heavy use of water, pesticides, and inorganic ferilizers in maintaining picture perfect golf courses. There is also a growing awareness that a beautiful course is not necessarily a healthy course. The following discussion reviews the interrelationship of turfgrass and the soil that supports it and provides basic information on currently available alternatives to turf management practices that feature intensive application of inorganic fertilizers. water and pesticides. Soil is a dynamic natural environment in which microorganisms play an important role. Soil contains a large mass of microorganisms which produce thousands of enzymes that can catalyze the transformation and degradation of many organic molecules. (In top soil under optimum conditions may contain 10 billion cells per gram of soil.). Turfgrass and the soil which supports it are interdependent. The natural organic cycle as applied to turf and soil begins with healthy vigorous grass plants storing up the sun's energy in green plant tissues as chemical energy. Animals obtain energy by eating plants and when plants and animals die, their wastes are returned to the soil and provide "food" for soil microorganisms. In the next step of the organic cycle soil microorganisms break down complex plant tissues into more basic forms and make the nutrients available to grass roots. Finally, growing plants extract the available nutrients from the soil. By free operation of this organic cycle, natural grasslands have some of the most fertile soils on earths.
Soil microbes perform crucial roles in the nutrient cycles of forest ecosystems, by effecting the decomposition of organic matter. Enzyme activities have been used to evaluate decomposition rates, as well as microbial activities. The principal objectives of this study were to determine the activities of different soil enzymes, to compare enzyme activities at different elevations, and to elucidate the most important controlling variables for enzyme activities. We conducted a field survey at three sites in Mt. Jumbong on a monthly basis from May, 2004 to September, 2005. Enzyme activities did not change substantially over different seasons. However, the spatial differences were distinct; the lowest elevation site evidenced the lowest levels of enzyme activity. Soils at the lowest elevation were nutrient-depleted soils, and enzyme activities appeared to be affected by precipitation and temperature. However, enzyme activities in fertile soils at high elevations were associated with nutrients and organic matter. The enzyme activities detected in this study differed significantly at the three elevations, and their controlling variables also evidenced different factors.

Soil losses are occurred by rainfall has caused productivity decline of a fertile surface soil and inflow sediment on Dam reservoir which are the main reasons of the decrease of storage volume and difficulty of water management. In this study, the amount and location of soil losses which were evaluated using USLE(Universal Soil Loss Equation) were applied on soil, landcover, and topographical conditions on the basis of satellite images and GIS. Furthermore, it was possible to evaluate the amount of riverbed sediments using echo-sounder and sediment rate were analyzed by comparing with soil losses.
