This study was performed to evaluate and compare the antioxidant substance content and antioxidant activities of white (Superior) and colored (Hongyoung, Jayoung, Jasim, Seohong, and Jaseo) potatoes. The potatoes were extracted with 80% ethanol and were evaluated for the total polyphenol, flavonoid, and anthocyanin contents and for 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH)/2,2'-azino-bis(3-ethylbenzothiazoline-6-sulfonic acid) diammonium salt (ABTS) radical scavenging activity, reducing power, and ferrous metal ion chelating effect. The total polyphenol, flavonoid, and anthocyanin contents of Hongyoung and Jayoung were higher than white and other colored potatoes. All colored potato extracts, except for Jaseo and Seohong, showed higher ABTS radical scavenging activities than the general white potato extract. Hongyoung and Jayoung had the highest ABTS and DPPH radical scavenging activities. Optical density values for the reducing power of Jayoung and Jaseo at concentration of 2 mg/mL were 0.148 and 0.090, respectively. All colored potato extracts had lower ferrous metal ion chelating effect than the white potato. A significant (P<0.05) positive correlation was observed between total polyphenol content and total flavonoid content (r=0.919), anthocyanin content (r=0.992), and ABTS radical scavenging activity (r=0.897). Based on these results, this research may be useful in developing the Hongyoung and Jayoung cultivars with high antioxidant activities.
This study was conducted to investigate the quality characteristics of guavapyun after the addition of different ratios of extract (0.25, 0.5, 0.75, 1.0%), non-extract and vitamin C. The quality if the pyun containing 0.5% of the guava fruit extract (guavapyun) and vitamin C was higher compared with the quality of the control pyun. In the results of the proximatecomposition, the content of water was high in the control pyun relative to the vitamin C pyun and guavapyun and the carbohydrate, ash, crude lipid and protein content was high in guavapyun. The sweetness, pH and color (L, a, b value) were very high in the samples. The texture, hardness, chewiness and gumminess were significantly high in the control pyun and the adhesiveness and cohesiveness were high in guavapyun. However, there were no significant differences in springiness between the control and the added samples. The total phenolic content was higher in guavapyun (23.57 mg GAE/100 g) than the control pyun (18 mg GAE/100 g) and vitamin C pyun(15.05 mg GAE/100 g). The antioxidant activities determined by the DPPH method and ABTS method was higher in guavapyun (41.37 mM TE/g, 15.35 mM TE/g) than the control pyun (4.43 mM TE/g, 2.17mM TE/g) and vitamin C pyun (11.33 mM TE/g, 4.51 mM TE/g). Using the FRAP method, guavapyun(9.06 mM TE/g) was shown to exhibit a stronger ferrous ion chelating activity than the control pyun (4.49mM TE/g) and vitamin C pyun (7.03 mM TE/g). Thus, the studied indigenous guavapyun was high in both antioxidative activity and total phenolic content.
Fenton's reaction are difficult to apply in the field due to the low pH requirements for the reaction and the loss of reactivity caused by the precipitation of iron (II) at neutral pH. Moreover, Fenton-like reactions using iron mineral instead of injection of iron ion as a catalyst are operated to get high removal result at low pH. Because hydroxyl radical can generate at the surface of iron mineral, there are competition with a lot of hydroxide at around neutral pH. On the other side, to operate Fenton's reaction series at neutral pH, modified Fenton reaction is suggested. The complexes, composed by iron ions (ferrous ion or ferric ion)-chelating agent, could be acted as a catalyst and presented in the solution at neutral pH. However, modified Fenton reaction requires a lot of hydrogen peroxide. Accordingly, the purpose of this experiment was to effectively combine Fenton-like reaction and modified Fenton reaction for extending application of Fenton's reaction. i.e., injecting chelating agents in Fenton-like reaction at around neutral pH is increasing the concentration of dissolved iron ion and highly promoting the oxidation effect. 2,4,6-trinitrotoluene (TNT) was used as a probe compound for comparing reaction efficiencies in this study. If the concentration of dissolved iron ion in combined Fenton process were existed more than 0.1 mM, the total TNT removal were increased. Magnetite-NTA system showed the best TNT removal (76%) and Magnetite-EDTA system indicated about 56% of TNT removal. The results of these experiments proved more promoted 40-60% of TNT removal than Fenton-like reaction's.
Current study investigated phytochemical compositions and antioxidant capacity of Korean leafy vegetables including chajogi, gomchwi, meowi and sseumbagwi. ${\beta}$-carotene, total soluble polyphenol, total flavonoids contents were determined, and antioxidant capacity were evaluated by various methods. ${\beta}$-carotene, total soluble polyphenol, total flavonoids contents in gomchwi were significantly higher (as much as 19 folds) compare to other vegetables (p<0.05). Sseumbagwi extract ($100{\mu}g/mL$) was removed 78.6% of superoxide radicals in xanthin-xanthin oxidase system measured by EPR. Gomchwi showed the highest nitrate scavenging activity as 94.3% at pH 1.2. In SOD-like activity, chajogi, gomchwi, and meowi were evaluated in the range of $12.6{\sim}24.5%$. All samples were revealed to prevent the reaction of ferrous chloride during 9 days, which were comparable ability with 125 mg/100 g of ${\alpha}$-tocopherol. The rich phytochemical contents of gomchwi and sseumbagwi influenced to high antioxidant capacity.
This study was initiated to evaluate the antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of methanol extract (ME) and hot water extract (HWE) obtained from the fruiting bodies of medicinal mushroom, Phellinus gilvus. The free radical scavenging activity of ME from P. gilvus on 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) were 93.65% at 2 mg/mL, which was comparable with the positive control, butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT, 96.97%) at the same concentration. The ferrous ion-chelating ability of ME and HWE was significantly higher than that of BHT at all concentration levels. The antimicrobial assay of ME was performed against six bacteria and one species of fungus. ME exhibited antibacterial activity against 5 out of 6 bacteria: Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus mutans, Bacillus subtilis, Escherichia coli, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa; whereas, ME did not show antimicrobial activity against gram-negative bacterium Vibrio vulnificus and fungal species Candida albicans. The minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of ME against 5 strains of bacteria, such as S. aureus, S. mutans, B. subtilis, E. coli, and P. aeruginosa, was 100, 100, 50, 100, 200 mg/mL, respectively. The results suggest that good antioxidant and microbial activities of P. gilvus fruiting bodies might be used for natural antioxidant and antimicrobial agents.
We evaluated the antioxidant activity and tyrosinase inhibitory effects of Pleurotus ostreatus fruiting bodies extracted with acetone, methanol, and hot water. The antioxidant activities were tested against $\beta$-carotene-linoleic acid, reducing power, 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl free radical scavenging activity, and ferrous chelating ability. Furthermore, phenolic acid and flavonoid contents were also analyzed. The methanol extract showed the strongest $\beta$-carotene-linoleic acid inhibition as compared to the other exracts. The acetone extract (8 mg/mL) showed a significantly high reducing power of 1.54 than the other extracts. The acetone extract was more effective than other extracts for scavenging on 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radicals. The strongest chelating effect (85.66%) was obtained from the acetone extract at 1.0 mg/mL. The antioxidant activities of the extracts from the P. ostreatus fruiting bodies increased with increasing concentration. A high performance liquid chromatography analysis detected seven phenolic compounds, including gallic acid, protocatechuic acid, chlorogenic acid, naringenin, hesperetin, formononetin, and biochanin-A in an acetonitrile and 0.1 N hydrochloric acid (5 : 1) solvent extract. The total phenolic compound concentration was $188{\mu}g$/g. Tyrosinase inhibition of the acetone, methanol, and hot water P. ostreatus extracts increased with increasing concentration. The results revealed that the methanol extract had good tyrosinase inhibitory ability, whereas the acetone and hot water extracts showed moderate activity at the concentrations tested. The results suggested that P. ostreatus may have potential as a natural antioxidant.
The removal of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) in aqueous solution by coupled electro-oxidation and Fe(II) activated persulfate oxidation process was investigated. The electrochemical oxidation was performed using carbon sheet electrode and persulfate using Fe(II) ion as an activator. The oxidation efficiency was investigated by varying current density (2 - 10 mA/㎠), electrolyte (Na2SO4) concentration (10 - 100 mM), persulfate concentration (5 - 20 mM), and Fe(II) concentration (10 - 20 mM). The 2,4-D removal efficiency was in the order of Fe(II) activated persulfate-assisted electrochemical oxidation (Fe(II)/PS/ECO, 91%) > persulfate-electrochemical oxidation (PS/ECO, 51%) > electro-oxidation (EO, 36%). The persulfate can be activated by electron transfer in PS/ECO system, however, the addition of Fe(II) as an activator enhanced 2,4-D degradation in the Fe(II)/PS/ECO system. The 2,4-D removal efficiency was not affected by the initial pHs (3 - 9). The presence of anions (Cl- and HCO3-) inhibited the 2,4-D removal in Fe(II)/PS/ECO system due to scavenging of sulfate radical. Scavenger experiment using tert-butyl alcohol (TBA) and methanol (MeOH) confirmed that although both sulfate (SO4•-) and hydroxyl (•OH) radicals existed in Fe(II)/PS/ECO system, hydroxyl radical (SO4•-) was the predominant radical.
To minimize the danger of soil erosion and settle habitats earlier, afforestation, which vegetates bare slopes, is selected as an environmental recovering technology. Large portions of these areas often are suffered by a bad germination and growth inhibition of sprayed seeds. Afforested materials collected in the normal and damaged sites were not any big difference in chemical characteristics and biological response to ryegrass. But background soil of the damaged site has very low pH (3.6) and high contents of iron and aluminum compared with them of the normal sites. Both germination and root growth of ryegrass were inhibited severely in the water extracts of damaged soils, but not in the water extracts of normal sites. Groundwater collected nearby the damaged sites was very strong acidic (pH 33) and exhibited a high value of electrical conductivity and high contents of iron and aluminum. In the ground water, germinated ryegrass was scarcely grown. In Al standard solution, the root growth of ryegrass was inhibited over 50% in 0.5 mM in pH 3.5-4.5 and in 1.4 mM in pH 5.5, which seems to be related to $Al^{3+}$ activity in solution. In the ferric Fe ($Fe^{3+}$) standard solution, ryegrass growth was inhibited over 50% in the concentration of 14-19 mM in root and 23-25 mM in shoot. This strong tolerance of ryegrass to $Fe^{3+}$ might be concerned with the very low activity of $Fe^{3+}$ at pH 3.5-5.5. In contrast, ryegrass responded very sensitively to ferrous Fe ion ($Fe^{2+}$), especially in root growth: $Fe^{2+}$ concentrations corresponding to 50% growth reduction were 0.3-0.4 mM at pH 3.5-5.5 in roots. This high growth inhibition should be related to the high ion activity of $Fe^{2+}$ irrespective of different pH conditions. In conclusion, low pH and high contents of $Fe^{2+}$ and aluminum seem to be caused by pyrite and be closely related to the growth inhibition of ryegrass seeded in afforested area.
We report the crystallographic and magnetic properties of $Ni_{0.3}Fe_{0.7}Ga_2S_4$ by means of X-ray diffractometer (XRD), a superconducting quantum interference device (SQUID) magnetometer, and a M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectroscopy. In particular, $Ni_{0.3}Fe_{0.7}Ga_2S_4$ was studied by M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer analysis for evidence of spin reorientation. The chalcogenide material $Ni_{0.3}Fe_{0.7}Ga_2S_4$ was fabricated by a direct reaction method. XRD analysis confirmed that $Ni_{0.3}Fe_{0.7}Ga_2S_4$ has a 2-dimension (2-D) triangular lattice structure, with space group P-3m1. The M$\ddot{o}$ssbauer spectra of $Ni_{0.3}Fe_{0.7}Ga_2S_4$ at spectra at various temperatures from 4.2 to 300 K showed that the spectrum at 4.2 K has a severely distorted 8-line shape, as spin liquid. Electric quadrupole splitting, $E_Q$ has anomalous two-points of temperature dependence of $E_Q$ curve as freezing temperature, $T_f=11K$, and N$\acute{e}$el temperature, $T_N=26K$. This suggests that there appears to be a slowly-fluctuating "spin gel" state between $T_f$ and $T_N$, caused by non-paramagnetic spin state below $T_N$. This comes from charge re-distribution due to spin-orientation above $T_f$, and $T_N$, due to the changing $E_Q$ at various temperatures. Isomer shift value ($0.7mm/s{\leq}{\delta}{\leq}0.9mm/s$) shows that the charge states are ferrous ($Fe^{2+}$), for all temperature range. The Debye temperature for the octahedral site was found to be ${\Theta}_D=260K$.

For the development of $^{99m}Tc-labelled$ antimony sulfide colloid and hydroxyethyl starch, various experiments such as preparation of colloid, control of the distribution of particle size, establishment of labelling conditions, determination of labelling yield and radiochemical purity, examination of stability, and organ imagings of rabbits etc. were carried out. 1) Antimony sulfide colloid was readily prepared by the reaction of aqueous solution of antimony potassium tartrate with hydrogen sulfide generated by treating ferrous sulfide with dilute sulfuric acid. The colloid could be stabilized by adding small amount of polyvinylpyrrolidone. 2) Electron microscopy analysis exhibited the distribution of colloid size in the range of $1\sim15nm$ with a major portion of 9 m. The colloid solution was sterilized by membrane filtration $(0.2{\mu}m)$ and then stored at $4^{\circ}C$. This sterilized colloid was so stable that it was usable at least for one year. 3) The antimony sulfide colloid was labelled by adding sodium $pertechnetate-^{99m}Tc$ solution to the reaction vial, followed by adding hydrochloric acid and then boiled for 30 min. The optimal pH of the reaction mixture was found to be in the range of $1.3\sim1.4$. Instant thin layer chromatography (ITLC) analysis showed high labelling yield of above 99.5%. This labelled colloid maintained high radio-chemical purity of above 99% until 10 hours after labelling. 4) Animal studies showed high uptake of $^{99m}Tc-Sb_2S_3$ colloid at lymph vessels and nodes indicating a suitable agent for lymphoscintigraphy. Satisfactory results were also abtained in other clinical studies. 5) Hydroxyethyl starch (HES $0.6\sim1.0%$) was labelled with $Na^{99m}TcO_4$ in the presence of $SnCl_2$ with high labelling yield of above 99.5%. The optimal pH of the reaction mixture was in the range of $1.8\sim2.0$. $^{99m}Tc-HES$ maintained high radiochemical purity of above 99% until 10 hours after labelling. 6) Animal studies showed that $^{99m}Tc-HES$ migrated more rapidly from the injection sites into the lymph vessels than $^{99m}Tc-Sb_2S_3$ colloid while less amount of the former was uptaken at lymph nodes than that of the latter. Similar phenomenon was also observed in other clinical studies. As a result, $^{99m}Tc-Sb_2S_3$ colloid was found to be more effective lymphoscintigraphic agent than $^{99m}Tc-HES$.

1. (시행일) 이 약관은 2016년 9월 5일부터 적용되며, 종전 약관은 본 약관으로 대체되며, 개정된 약관의 적용일 이전 가입자도 개정된 약관의 적용을 받습니다.
