Adsorption kinetics of aqueous ferric ion ($Fe^{3+}$) onto bio-natural rice grains (BRG) have been studied in a batch system. The influence of contact time (0-180 minutes), the dosage of BRG adsorbent (10, 20, 40, and $60gL^{-1}$), and ambient temperature (27, 37, 47, and $57^{\circ}C$) for the adsorption system have been reported. The equilibrium time achieved after 20 minutes of adsorption contact time. The maximum removal of ferric ion is 99% by using $60gL^{-1}$ of BRG, $T=37^{\circ}C$, and $50mgL^{-1}$ ferric ion solution. Adsorption kinetic and diffusion models, such as pseudo-first order, pseudo-second order, and Weber-Morris intra-particle diffusion model, have been used to describe the adsorption rate and mechanism of the ferric ion onto BRG surface. The sorption data results are fitted by Lagergren pseudo-second order model ($R^2=1.0$). The kinetic parameters, rate constant, and sorption capacities have been calculated. The new information in this study suggests that BRG could adsorb ferric ion from water physiosorption during the first 5 minutes. Afterward, the electrostatic interaction between ferric ion and BGR-surface could take place as a very weak chemisorptions process. Thus, there is no significant change could be noticed in the FTIR spectra after adsorption. I recommend producing BGR as a bio-natural filtering material for removing the ferric ion from water.

This research was carried out to evaluate the removal efficiencies of CODcr and colour for the dyeing wastewater by ferrous solution in Fenton process. The results showed that COD was mainly removed by Fenton coagulation, where the ferric ions are formed in the initial step of Fenton reaction. On the other hand colour was removed by Fenton oxidation rather than Fenton coagulation. The removal mechanism of CODcr and colour was mainly coagulation by ferrous ion, ferric ion and Fenton oxidation. The removal efficiencies were dependent on the ferric ion amount at the beginning of the reaction. However the final removal efficiency of COD and colour was in the order of Fenton oxidation, ferric ion coagulation and ferrous ion coagulation. The reason of the highest removal efficiency by Fenton oxidation can be explained by the chain reactions with ferrous solution, ferric ion and hydrogen peroxide.
This study was to investigate the potential degradation of a herbicide paraquat by Fenton reagents(ferric ion and hydrogen peroxide) under UV light irradiation(365 nm) in an aqueous solution. When $10{\sim}500$ mg/L of paraquat was reacted with either ferric ion or hydrogen peroxide in the dark or under UV light, no degradation was occurred. However, the simultaneous application of both ferric ion(0.8 mM) and hydrogen peroxide(0.140 M) in paraquat solution(500 mg/L) caused dramatic degradation of paraquat both in the dark (approximately 78%) and under UV light(approximately 90%). The reaction approached an equilibrium state in 10 hours. In the dark, when $0.2{\sim}0.8$ mM ferric ion was added, $20{\sim}70%$ paraquat of $10{\sim}500$ mg/L was degraded, regardless of hydrogen peroxide concentrations($0.035{\sim}0.140$ M), while under UV light, 95% of 10 and 100 mg/L paraquat was degraded regardless of ferric ion and hydrogen peroxide concentrations. At paraquat concentration of 200 and 500 mg/L, paraquat degradation increased with increasing ferric ion concentrations as in the dark. However the increase in hydrogen peroxide concentration did not affect the extent of paraquat degradation. The initial reaction rate constants(k) for paraquat degradation ranged from 0.0004 to 0.0314, and 0.0023 to 0.0367 in the dark and under UV light, respectively. The initial reaction rate constant increased in proportion to the increase in ferric ion concentration in both conditions. The half-lives of paraquat degradation(t1/2) were 20 - 1,980 and 19 - 303 minutes in the dark and under UV light, respectively. This study indicates that Fenton reagents under UV light irradiation are more potent than in the dark in terms of herbicide paraquat degradation in an aqueous solution.
The purpose of this research is to evaluate the removal efficiencies of COD$\_$Cr/ and color for the dyeing wastewater by the different dosages of ferrous solution and H$_2$O$_2$ in Fenton process. In the case of H$_2$O$_2$ divided dosage for the Fenton's reagent 7:3 of H$_2$O$_2$ was more effective than 3:7 to remove COD$\_$Cr/ and color. The results showed that COD$\_$Cr/ was mainly removed by Fenton coagulation, where the ferric ions are formed in the initial step of Fenton reaction. On the other hand color was removed by Fenton oxidation rather than Fenton coagulation. The removal mechanism of COD$\_$Cr/ and color was mainly coagulation by ferrous ion, ferric ion and Fenton oxidation. The removal efficiencies were dependent on the ferric ion amount at the beginning of the reaction. However, the final removal efficiency of COD$\_$Cr/ and color was in the order of Fenton oxidation, ferric ion coagulation and ferrous ion coagulation. The reason of the highest removal efficiency by Fenton oxidation can be explained by the chain reactions with ferrous solution, ferric ion and hydrogen peroxide.

The influence of ferric ion ($Fe^{+3}$) on bioelectrochemical anaerobic digestion for sewage sludge was explored at ambient temperature ($25^{\circ}C$). Before the addition of ferric ion, the removal of volatile solids (VS) was 65.9% and the specific methane production rate was 370 mL/L/d. After the addition of ferric ion (200 ppm) to feed sludge, the bioelectrochemical anaerobic digester was more stable in the state variables including pH, alkalinity, COD and VFAs, and the VS removal and specific methane production rate were increased to 69.8% and 396 mL/L/d, respectively. However, the methane content in biogas was slightly reduced by the addition of ferric ion, indicating that the activity of planktonic anaerobic bacteria (PAB) was more improved after the addition of ferric ion. The dominances of syntrophic bacteria (Cloacamonas) and hyrolytic bacteria (Saprospiraceae, Ottowia pentelensis) in the PAB were increased by the addition of ferric ion. The addition of ferric ion improved the performance of bioelectrochemical anaerobic digestion for sewage sludge at ambient temperature.
Methanolic extracts of fresh ginseng, white ginseng and red ginseng were found to have a biological antioxidant activity against ethanol induced lipid peroxidation in the mouse liver. This antioxidant activities were repressed by the addition of ferric ion to the Korean ginseng in the process of its extraction.

Dowex 1-X8 resin ion exchanged with calcon carboxylic acid (CCA-Dowex 1-X8) and 2-methyl-8-hydroxyquinoline(MHQ) impregnated-Amberlite XAD-4 resin (MHQ-XAD-4) were examined for the separation and preconcentration of ferric ion from the various matrices. The stabilities of these resins were investigated, and their capacities on ferric ion were also measured. The effect of pH on the adsorption of ferric ion and matrix ions, such as Al(Ⅲ) and Ca(Ⅱ), was investigated to determine the optimun pH ranges. Separation and preconcentration of iron in aluminium foil and mineral water samples were studied by elution method with these resin columns. The recovered ions by 10ml of 2F nitric acid was determined by flame atomic spectrophotometry. SP-Sephadex C-25 column was used to separate ferrous and ferric ion in mineral water by stepwise elution with ferrozine and 1 % ascorbic acid-ferrozine solution. The concentrated and separated each ion could be determined spectrophotometrically at the analytical wavelenth of Fe(Ⅱ)-ferrozine complex (562nm).
The effects of the iron ions on the light-induced mitochondrial $F_1-ATPase$ in Lentinus edodes was studied. This enzyme activity was stimulated by each of the ferric, ferrous and magnesium ion. Especially, the activity of the enzyme by 5.0 mM ferric ion increased up to 107% in comparision with control group(100%). In the presence of magnesium ion, each of ferric and ferrous ion increased the activity of the enzyme, particulary, coexistence of 0.1 mM magnesium and 5.0 mM ferric ion increased the activity up to 270% with magnesium ion dependence. The activity of the enzyme was stimulated up to 268% by 5.0 mM ferric ion in the presence of 0.1 mM magnesium and 0.1 mM ferrous ion. Therefore, the coexistence of ferrous ion did not affect the activity. From the above, we propose that light-induced mitochondrial $F_1-ATPase$ in Lentinus edodes is a $Mg^{2+}{\cdot}Fe^{3+}{\;}F_1-ATPase.$ The optimal pH and temperature for the enzyme were 7.5 and $66^{\circ}C$ respectively.

The effects of ferrous ion on the properties of bright nickel electrodeposit were exa-mined. Iron exists as ferrous ion (Fe+2) and ferric ion (Fe+3) in the bath, a portion of the former tend to be oxidized to the somewhat harmful ferric ion. Iron was added to bath as the ferrous sulfate, ferrous ion prevented from the oxidation with citric acid. It was found that the hardness was increased as the concentration of ferrous ion, the ductility was slightly increased too. The appearance can obtain the wide bright deposits within 4g/$\ell$. The corrosion resistance drastically dropped from 5g/$\ell$ In the case of considering the effect of ferrous ion on the corrosion resistance and the appearance, the allowable limits is 4g/$\ell$, if the reductant is used.
