A 2-year-old spayed female ferret with the clinical signs of diarrhea and anorexia for about 8 days was presented to Hansung animal hospital. The diarrhea was black and paste form. Three palpable abdominal masses were detected in physical examination. By cytologic examination using fine need aspiration, the patient was tentatively diagnosed as lymphoma. Chemotherapy was started with prednisone, vincristine and cyclophosphamide. However, the client requested stopping the therapy at day 18 and the ferret was euthanized. Autopsy was performed and the masses were confirmed as lymphoma by histopathology. Microscopically, the mass consisted of unencapsulated and infiltrative neoplasm consisted of closely packed monomorphic round cells and also ininvasive lesions observed in duodenum. On the higher magnification, pleomorphic neoplastic cells with distinct cell border and abundant eosinophilic cytoplasm were observed. Finally, the ferret diagnosed as alimentary lymphoma.

A female domestic ferret (Mustela putorius furo) presented to a veterinary clinic with a clinical history of anorexia and poor body condition. Due to gradual deterioration of the body condition, explorative laparotomy was performed. Diffusely, the mesentery was severely thickened and adhered with prominent mesenteric lymph nodes. A portion of the mesentery and mesenteric lymph nodes were biopsied and fixed. Microscopic analysis revealed severe pyogranulomatous peritonitis and lymphadenitis, but staining revealed no bacterial organisms. However, immunohistochemistry for feline coronavirus exhibited strong immunoreactivity, primarily in the macrophages. Based on these results, the case was diagnosed as ferret coronavirus infection.

Retroperitoneal teratoma was described in a 20-month-old intact female ferret (Mustela putorius furo). Retroperitoneal mass about $8{\times}5$ cm in size was surgically removed and histopathologic examination was performed. Grossly, on cross section of the mass, the consistency was soft to firm and contained several cystic structures which are filled with dried keratinous material. Histologically, the retroperitoneal mass consisted of embryologically heterogeneous tissues that include skin, bone and cartilage, adipose tissue, respiratory epithelium, and exocrine pancreatic tissue. Based on the characteristic histologic features of the mass, a diagnosis of retroperitoneal teratoma was made. Adrenal gland or ovary was suspected as the origin of the tumor.

The present study was undertaken to determine whether transgelin participates in the regulation of vascular smooth muscle contraction and, if so, to investigate the mechanism. By PCR homology cloning, the cDNA sequence of ferret transgelin was determined and phosphorothioate antisense and random oligonucleotides were synthesized and introduced into strips of ferret aorta by a chemical loading procedure. Treatment of ferret aorta with transgelin antisense oligonucleotides resulted in a significant decrease in protein levels of transgelin to sham- or random sequence-loaded muscles, but no change in the protein levels of actin. Contraction in response to a phorbol ester was significantly decreased in antisense-treated muscles compared to sham- or random sequence-loaded controls. Neither basal intrinsic tone nor the contraction in response to phenylephrine was significantly affected by the antisense treatment. The data indicate that transgelin plays a significant role in the regulation of contraction and suggest that in a tonically active smooth muscle transgelin may function as a signalling protein to facilitate PKC or ERK-dependent signalling rather than thick filament regulation including $Ca^{2+}$ or calmodulin dependent regulation of myosin light chain kinase.

A 7 years old, female and neutered ferret (Mustela putorius furo) was presented to local animal hospital due to lethargy, anorexia and hypothermia. Radiography, ultrasonography and blood test were performed. On the basis of clinical signs and tests, this case was presumed to be lymphoma. In consideration of this ferret's condition, chemotherapy was carried out for the treatment. However, the ferret died a few days. After necropsy, metastatic tumors were observed over abdomen. All tumors were packed with homologous lymphocytes with pleomorphic changes and numerous mitotic figures. Consequently, this masses were diagnosed as B-cell gastrointestinal lymphoma, which were negative for CD3 on immunohistochemistry.

Inhibitors of type IV phosphodiesterase (PDE IV) are currently being developed as new therapeutic agents for asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) and arthritis. Unfortunately, the anti-inflammatory effect of PDE IV inhibitors has been considered to be associated to some extent with vomiting as adverse effect. The first generation PDE IV inhibitor, rolipram, was known to induce emesis at clinical trials. (omitted)

This study is concerned with the nutritional status of the packed lunch boxes which are brought by the junior high school students in Capital City of Seoul. Four hundred and eights students of the 8 school districts in Seoul had been randomly selected as subjects. The contained nutrients in the packed lunch were analysed by the Food Composition Table. To observe the influence of home economical status and mother's educational level on the nutrient concents of packed lunches, the chosen subjects were classified into three large groupings, which are upper, middle and low classes respectively. In addition, comparison between the Recommended Daily Allowanced for Korean people-13 to 15 age group-and the contained nutrients in the lunch boxed had been conducted. T-test was applied to clarify the significance of the differences between each group both economical and educational level. 1. The averaged rations between the Recommended Daily Allowances and the contained nutrients in the lunches stand: Calorie 59.7% (566 Cal.) protein 53.1% (18g), animal protein 48.6% (5g), fat 39.8% (5g), calcium 371.% (0.1g), ferret 66.4% (2.9g) Vitamin A 642 1.U. (31.3%), Vitamin $B_1$ 70.2% (0.3mg), Vitamin $B_2$ 41.4% (0.2g), Niacin 77.0%(4mg), Vitamin C 51.9% (13mg). All of the nctrients fall far behind the Recommended Daily, Allowances for 13 to 15 age group. 2. Home economical status brings influence on the kinds of foods which could been. Protein, animal protein, fat, Vitamin $B_2$, Vitamin C showed significance of diffierences between the upper and middle classes. Between the middle and low classes, Protein, animal protein, fat, calcium and Vitamin C showed significance of difference. And finally, between the upper and low classes, protein, fat, calcium, ferret, Vitamin $B_2$ and Vitamin C showed a great significance. 3. Regardless to the living conditions of the subject students, all the nutrients of the lunches packed by the mothers in the entire educational levels did not reach the Recommended Daily Allowances. Protein, animal protein, fat, ferret, Vitamin A, and Niacin showed the significance of the differences between the upper and middle classes. On the other hand, calorie, animal protein, fat, Vitamin A and Vitamin C showed the significance between the middle and low classes. Between the upper and the low classes, protein, animal protein, fat, and ferret showed significance. 4. The mairdish-ice of the lunch boxes supplied calorie, protein, Vitamin $B_1$, Vitamin $B_2$ and Niacin which stand at 83.8%, 56.1%, 52.5%, and 54.8% respectivly when compared with the whole nutritional contents. 5. The side-dishes of the packed lunch lack in variety of cooking methods. One interesting fact is that entire subject students are very favorable to the food cooked with every kind of grains.

We have previously reported that the vasodilatory effect of BanhabackchuIChunma-tang(半夏白朮天麻湯; BCT), a herbal formula, and its mechanism might be associated with at least in part NO pathway. In the present study, we studied the influence of BanhabackchulChenuma-tang (BCT) on the phosphorylation of LC20, in parallel, the distribution of α-protein kinase C(PKCα) by phenylephrine was monitored using laser scan confocal immunofluorescent microscopy in freshly isolated ferret portal vein smooth muscle living single cells. Phenylephrine stimulation induced LC20 phosphorylation and translocation of PKCα. However, BCT dephosphorylated LC20 phosphorylation and inhibited the translocation of PKCα. Our results demonstrate that the mechanism of relaxant effect of BanhabackchulChunma-tang inhibition is associated with inhibition of PKCα activation and LC20 phosphorylation.

다양한 형태의 차세대 오디오/비디오 서비스를 위한 멀티미디어 데이터를 유연성 있게 부호화하기 위한 국제 표준 규격인 MPEG-4에서는 저작된 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 저장하기 위한 포맷으로 XMT (eXtensible MPEG-4 Textual ferret)와 MPEG-4 파일 포맷 (MP4)를 제공하고 있다. 이들 중 XMT 포맷은 사람이 컨텐츠의 내용을 읽을 수 있는 가독성을 가지고 있는 장점이 있으며, XML을 기반으로 하고있기 때문에 여러 가지 응용에 사용될 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 인터렉티브 멀티미디어 컨텐츠를 저작할 수 있는 국제 표준인 MPEG-4를 따르는 컨텐츠를 XMT-A를 이용하여 저작하는 방법에 대하여 기술한다.
