The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of fermented earthworm cast feed prepared with three complexed probiotics containing Bacillus subtilis separated from the earthworm casts, on egg production, egg quality and odor removal from poultry house. A total of 240 laying hens were divided into 4 treatments and completely randomized. Experimental groups were divided into control, 0.3 to 0.5% (fermented earthworm cast feed FECF3, FECF5) and 0.2% commercial probiotics (CP). The egg production rate was significantly higher in the FECF groups compared to the control group fed the normal feed, but there was no difference in the CP group. Haugh units, egg shell thickness, breaking strength, egg yolk index and albumen height were increased in FECF groups compared to control but not in CP group. The n-3 content of eggs was higher in the FECF groups than in the control group, while the n-6/n-3 ratio was lower and there was no difference from the CP group. Ammonia production was lower in the CP and FECF groups compared to the control group after 5 days storage at room temperature to poultry feces.

The aims of this study were to isolate spore-forming Bacillus strains that exhibit high digestibility and anti-pathogenic bacteria toward feed for calves. Total 136 spore-forming strains were isolated from finished feeds and their ingredients. Among them, 93 strains were identified as Bacillus species when analyzed by 16S rRNA sequencing. For industrial use, three strains named as Bacillus licheniformis SHS14, B. subtilis LCB7, B. amyloliquefaciens LCB10 were selected after evaluating the industrial standards that are related with heat and acid resistance, enzyme activities, and anti-pathogenic activities against Samonella dublin ATCC15480 and E. coli K99. After each culture, 3 selected strains were mixed together at 1:1:1 (v/v/v) ratio and then prepared as the mixed starter culture for feeding. The changes in microbial community were analyzed via 16S rRNA metagenomics. The initial community ratio among three strains was maintained even after manufacturing into final products. Also, in vitro, enzymatic and anti-pathogenic activities were almost same as those when cultured in single culture, and results of anti-pathogenic activities conducted with calves showed 90% activities against lincomycin, which would be indicative of a promising feed starter.
This study was carried out to investigate the feeding effects of the dietary supplementation of fermented spent mushroom (Pleurotus eryngii) substrates with Bacillus amyloliquefaciens CS47 and Saccharomyces cerevisiae (F-SMS) on growth performance and carcass characteristics of Hanwoo steers. Thirty two Hanwoo steers were allocated into two feeding groups and assigned equally to two dietary treatments; Control (commercial formula feed for Hanwoo steers and rice straw) and TMR including 30% F-SMS. The nutritional values of TMR including 30% F-SMS was higher crude protein (11.67%) and TDN (72.11%) than rice straw, but not significantly different from commercial formula feed (p<0.05). Feed intake was significantly greater in the TMR including 30% F-SMS than the control (p<0.05), but body weight gain and carcass grades were not influenced by the experimental diets. Based on this study, fermented spent mushroom (Pleurotus eryngii) substrate with Bacillus amyloliquefaciens CS47 and Saccharomyces cerevisiae is may be used as an ingredient of feed in TMR for Hanwoo steer.
In this study, to determine the optimum fermentation process for the feed production of food wastes and estimate the practical value of fermented feed using kudzu creeper and sawdust as bulking agent. This study considered initial C/N ratio control as the fermentation process variables. The results are summarized as follows. Minimum water contents of byproducts in the fermentation feed production showed 3994(kudzu), 37%( sawdust) at the C/N ratio 25 and 45%(kudzu, sawdust) at the C/N ratio 35. Temperature variations in the fermentation feed production at the C/n ratio 25 indicated 68'C(kudzu), 70'C (sawdust).Optimum condition of consists of fermentation process of water content, C/N ratio and permeability (porous structure of the mixture). For optimum fermentation of gravitationally, dewatered garbage, the proper mixing ratios of kudzu(moisture contents : 17.3%) and sawdust(moisture contents : 13.2%) were 41% and 39%, respectively Major biological reaction in the aerobic fermentation feed production occurred during 12~14hrs
This study compared the effects of dietary supplementation of citrus by-product (CBP) and CBP fermented with Bacillus subtilis (F-CBP) on growth performance, feed utilization, intestinal histology and innate immunity of red seabream Pagrus major with three commercial immune-boosting products. The six experimental diets were supplemented with L-ascorbyl-2-polyphosphate (LAPP; the control diet), CBP or F-CBP at a concentration of 100 mg vitamin C equivalent/kg diet or one of three commercial immune boosters. The Experimental diets were fed to triplicate groups of 17 fish (initial body weight, 116 g) for 8 weeks. The water temperature during the feeding trial was maintained at $13-15^{\circ}C$. Growth and feed utilization did not differ significantly among the six dietary treatments, nor did the phagocytic activity, superoxide dismutase or total immunoglobulin concentrations. However, myeloperoxidase activity was significantly higher in the CBP groups. For the intestinal histology, the intestine diameter, villi and enterocyte heights and number of goblet cells did not differ significantly among groups. Therefore, CBP or F-CBP can be used as a valuable eco-friendly byproduct in diets for fishes including red seabream to maintain their normal growth and health.
The effects of fermented fecal solid diets on the growth of the sea cucumber Apostichopus japonicus was investigated in a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS) during a 90-day experiment at 16.5-17.5℃, 32±0.5 psu salinity, pH 7.9-8.2, and 5.2-7.1 mg/L dissolved oxygen. The aim was to determine the feasibility of RAS fecal solid waste as a renewable feed for A. japonicus. In this study, unfermented fecal solid (UF), fermented fecal solid (FF), and commercial feed (CF) diets were used. The results showed that the growth rate did not differ significantly (P>0.05) between A. japonicus fed FF and CF; however, the growth rates of A. japonicus fed FF and CF were ~50% higher than that of those fed UF. Thus, utilization of fecal solid by A. japonicus may overcome the problem regarding accumulation of RAS waste. Use of a fermentation process would improve utilization of fecal solid as a renewable food source for A. japonicus.

A feeding trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of dietary supplementation with fermented soybean meal by Bacillus subtilis (BFSBM) on growth performance, feed utilization, innate immunity, water quality, and disease resistance of Litopenaeus vannamei. A basal fish meal-based diet was regarded as a control and two other diets were prepared by replacing 30% fish meal with either soybean meal (SBM) or BFSBM. Triplicate groups of shrimp ($0.80{\pm}0.010g$) were fed one of the experimental diets for 6 weeks. No differences were found in final body weight, feed conversion ratio, or survival among all dietary treatments after the feeding trial. Shrimp fed the BFSBM diet had significantly higher phagocytic and phenoloxidase activities than those of shrimp fed the SBM diet. Total ammonia concentrations in culture water during a zero water exchange test tended to decrease in tanks where BFSBM diet was provided. Disease resistance of shrimp to Vibrio harveyi tended to increase in the BFSBM group during 14 days of challenge compared to that in the control (CON) and SBM groups. These results show that dietary supplementation with BFSBM can enhance the innate immunity of Pacific white shrimp and replace at least 30% of dietary fish meal.
To reduce anti-nutritional factors in plant protein sources for fish meal replacement in fish feeds, cottonseed and soybean meal (CS) were fermented with Aspergillus oryzae. A feeding trial was conducted to verify the effects of fermented CS (FCS) with phytase supplementation on gossypol detoxification, phosphorus digestibility, antioxidant activity, and growth performance of juvenile olive flounder over 10 weeks. Four diets were formulated to replace 0, 30, or 40% fish meal protein with CS or FCS (designated as CS0, CS30, FCS30P, and FCS40P). Phytase (1,000 FTU/kg) was added to FCS30P and FCS40P. The microbial fermentation significantly increased dietary total polyphenols and consequently led to higher DPPH radical-scavenging activities in fish feed and fish tissue. Dietary and liver gossypol concentrations were dramatically decreased by the fermentation process. Phosphorus digestibility was significantly increased in fish fed the FCS40P diet. However, growth performance decreased in fish fed FCS diets. This study demonstrates that the fermentation process and phytase supplementation can improve the phosphorus availability of plant protein sources in fish. The fermentation of CS by A. oryzae could increase antioxidant activities in feed and fish and effectively degrade toxic gossypol in cottonseed meal.
Pervaporation pilot tests for obtaining the anhydrous ethanol, which is an automobile fuel additive for reducing air pollution, were carried out in the production field of fermented ethanol by using a PVA composite membrane. In the pervaporation dehydration of the ethanol/water azeotropic mixture, the membrane performance is concluded to be enhanced with the heating temperature of feed. In the determination of the permeate condensation temperature from the viewpoint of energy cost, an Optimal temperature was found to be near $0{\circ}C$. The results on the dehydration of fermented ethanol were similar to those of synthetic ethanol, which indicates that the pervaporation performance is not influenced by impurities contained in the ethanol to be dehydrated. From a comparison of calculated energy needed in the system and measured value in the pilot test, it is confirmed that the latent heat for vaporization of permeant on the permeate side of membrane is supplied from the feed.
This study sought to evaluate the effects of fermented soybean meal (FSBM) prepared by inoculating Bacillus coagulans NRR1207 and a Kefir starter on sows and Holstein cow's. FSBM has high nutritional value due to the hydrolysis of anti-nutritional factors such as trypsin inhibitors, hemagglutinin, raffinose and stachyose. In particular, it is widely used as a type of livestock feed due to its high protein content. The composition of FSBM is as follows: crude protein 55.15%, crude fat 2.12% and 0.2% KOH solubility 83.17%, it was higher than soybean meal (SBM). In particular, anti-nutritional factors such as trypsin inhibitor, raffinose and stachyose of FSBM were significantly reduced compared to the SBM. The number of lactic acid bacteria, including B. coagulans NRR1207, is 8.63 × 107 CFU·g-1, yeast is 1.1 × 106 CFU·g-1. Offspring numbers, the initial sucking number, sucking days, and weaned numbers of sows fed with FSBM all showed higher values compared to the control group. The average body weight and backfat thickness of sows fed with FSBM increased than those fed with SBM. The weight body of piglets fed with FSBM increased by 1.4 kg compared to the control group. The feed conversion ratio of piglets fed with FSBM was reduced by 10.69% compared to the control group. The results of this study indicate that FSBM can provide beneficial effects with regard to the feeding characteristics of sows and piglets.
