  • The main purpose of this paper is to present a simulation model for assessing the impacts of a variable speed wind turbine (VSWT) on the distribution network and perform a simulation analysis of voltage profiles along the wind turbine installed feeder using the presented model. The modeled wind energy conversion system consists of a fixed pitch wind turbine, a synchronous generator, a rectifier and a voltage source inverter (VSI). Detailed study on the voltage impacts of a variable speed wind turbine is conducted in terms of steady state and dynamic behaviors. Various capacities and different modes of variable speed wind turbines are simulated and investigated. Case studies demonstrate how feeder voltages are influenced by capacity and control modes of wind turbines and changes in wind speed under different network conditions. Modeling and simulation analysis is based on PSCAD/EMTDC a software package.

  • This study presents a AC electric railway system model using PSCAD/EMTDC. Ver.3.08 for circuit analysis and fault studies. This system model made by PSCAD/EMTDC is composed of feeder, contact line, rails, Scott-transformer, Auto-transformer. This model is based on four-port network which is an extension of two-port network theory. In order to verify the proposed model, each voltage of feeder-rail, contact line-rail and feeder-contact line is measured and fault studies are also simulated.

  • This paper presents an application of a newly designed Adaptive Genetic Algorithm (AGA) to solve the Optimal Feeder Routing (OFR) problem for distribution system planning. The main objective of the OFR problem usually is to minimize the total cost that is the sum of investment costs and system operation costs. We propose a properly designed AGA, in this paper, which can handle the horizon-year expansion planning problem of power distribution network in which the location of substation candidates, the location and amount of forecasted demands are given. In the proposed AGA, we applied adaptive operators using specially designed adaptive probabilities. we also a Simplified Load Flow (SLF) technique for radial networks to improve a searching efficiency of AGA. The proposed algorithm has been evaluated with the practical 32, 69 bus test system to show favorable performance. It is also shown that the proposed method for the OFR can also be used for the network reconfiguration problem in distribution system.

  • This paper propose a heuristic algorithm based on the Branch-Exchange (BE) method to solve Optimal feeder Routing(OFR) problem for the distribution system planning. The cost function of the OFR problem is consisted of the investment cost representing the feeder installation and the system operation cost representing the system power loss. We propose a properly designed heuristic strategy, which can handle the horizon-year expansion planning problem of power distribution network. We also used the loop selection method which can define the maximum loss reduction in the network to reduce calculation time, and proposed a new index of power loss which is designed to estimate the power loss reduction in the BE. The proposed index, can be considered with both sides, the low voltage side and voltage side branch connected with tie one. The performances of the proposed algorithms and loss index were shown with 32, 69 example bus system.

  • Network reconfiguration is performed by opening/closing two types of switches, tie and sectionalizing switches. A whole feeder, or part of a feeder, may be served from another feeder by closing a tie switch linking the two while an appropriate sectionalizing switch must be opened to maintain radial structures. In loss reduction, the problem is to identify tie and sectionalizing switches that should be closed and opened, respectively, to achieve a maximum loss reduction. In this paper, it is introduced to propose the reconfiguration plan for loss reduction by using the Civanlar's loss reduction formular.

  • Recently, China opened Yangshan port and provides a variety of benefits for shipping companies. Japan plans to reduce logistics costs and improve efficiency through the established 'super major ports' project. According to the 'hub and spokes' system, the number of direct calls toward North-Chinese ports are increasing. This changing environment has negative effects on the amount of transshipment cargos in Korean ports. In order to make a hub port of a domestic port, it is necessary to develop northeast Asian Feeder networks. Therefore, this paper analyzes the structure of northeast Asian feeder networks through the case study of European feeder networks strategy. Finally, we suggests the plans to reinforce feeder networks, which are strategic terminal operation, strategic alliances between shipping companies and port co-operation, for win-win strategy in the competitive northeast Asian market.

  • The main purpose of this paper is to present a simulation model for assessing the impacts of a variable speed wind turbine (VSWT) on the distribution network and perform a simulation analysis of volt-age profiles and harmonics along the wind turbine installed feeder using the presented model. The modeled wind energy conversion system consists of a fixed pitch wind turbine and a permanent-magnet synchronous generator, in which a controllable power electronics inverter performs variable speed operation and reactive power output control. Impact analysis on voltage profiles and harmonics of a VSWT-installed distribution feeder is addressed and simulated in terms of steady state and dynamic behaviors. Various capacities and different modes of variable speed wind turbines are simulated and investigated. Case studies demonstrate how feeder voltages are influenced by capacity and control modes of wind turbines and changes in wind speed under various network conditions, and show harmonic impacts on the feeder. • This research investigates the influences of distributed generations (DG), which are interconnected to the bus by the dedicated lines, on the overcurrent relays (OCR) of the neighboring distribution feeders and also proposes a novel method to reduce the negative effects on the feeder protection. Due to the grid connected DG, the entire short-circuit capacity of the distribution networks increases, which may raise the current of the distribution feeder during normal operations as well as fault conditions. In particular, during the switching period for loop operation, the current level of the distribution feeder can be larger than the pickup value for the fault of the feeder's OCR, thereby causing the OCR to perform a mal-operation. This paper proposes the adaptive setting algorithm for the OCR of the distribution feeders having the neighboring dedicated feeders for the DG to prevent the mal-operations of the OCR under normal conditions. The proposed method changes the pickup value of the OCR by adapting the power output of the DG monitored at the relaying point in the distribution network. We tested the proposed method with the actual distribution network model of the Hoenggye substation at the Korea Electric Power Co., which is composed of five feeders supplying the power to network loads and two dedicated feeders for the wind turbine generators. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed adaptive protection method could enhance the conventional OCR of the distribution feeders with the neighboring dedicated lines for the DG.

  • The purpose of this research is to suggest the activation plan of Busan port. In the past years, Busan port enjoyed the golden days because of the China's rapid economic growth. But China's continuous development of ports, the trend of increasing container ship size and increasing direct call to China are coming threats to Busan port. So Korea needs to revise the 'Northeast Logistics Hub' strategy because it is considered that Korea ports continuously will handle China's transshipment cargoes. But now China's transshipment cargo share has decreased by direct call to China ports. It means that China has a lot of its local cargoes, so many ship companies change liner service route to handle China cargoes except Bussan ports although Busan port is included in the main trunk route. In the future, Bussan port will not be able to compete again about throughput with China ports if Busan port's transshipment cargo share decreases. So we must find out and develop Busan port's strength which is the competitive edge. By good luck, Busan port has a few opportunities such as the developed feeder network service and geographical advantages. Busan port has many feeder network service like spider's web in any northeast countries so we can suggest that if Japanese shippers use Busan port to distribute their cargoes to Japanese local areas, its transport costs are cheaper than when they use Japan's main ports. In this paper analyzed side of cost when they use Bussan port like hub to distribute their cargo to their local areas. Because most companies tried to reduce the total cost about logistics. Finally, this paper suggests when northeast shippers(China, Japan) use Bussan port which is more economical than their local main ports.
