  • In order to reduce the production cost and improve the quality of dairy feed, several dairy feed mill models suitable for Korean farm size were developed. 6 TMR models were developed for the 1000, 600, 200 head of dairy cattle, and evaluated for capital investments and production costs to suggest the best model. Followings are summary of this study : 1. TMR terminal models were designed that dairy production capacity of TMR1000 models are 40 ton/day, TMR600 model is 20 ton/day and TMR200 models are 10 ton/day. Also, they can be extended their capacity up to twice. 2. Capital investment of TMR terminal models is 145 million won for TMR200-1,205 million won for TMR600 and 609 million won for TMR1000-3 model. 3. The bigger TMR terminal model has the more advantage in production cost. The best model for 1000 head of dairy cattle farm was TMR1000-3 with 10,849 won/ton of production cost, TMR600 for 600 head of dairy cattle farm with 13,829 won/ton, TMR200-1 for 200 head of dairy cattle farm with 16,943 won/ton of production cost, so feed production cost for the 200 head farm was 50% higher than 1,000 head size farm.

  • This study is aimed to analyze the economic feasibility comparison of the extruded pellets and moist pellets on the Oliver flounder culture farms in Jeju Island. In order to do this, we selected 2 farms (M and S farms) in Jeju Island as a sample. In the study, various analyses including productivity analysis, cost structure analysis, profitability and economic feasibility analysis by feed type were conducted for two sample farms of Oliver flounder culture. The results of economic analysis by feed type on the Oliver flounder culture can be summarized as follows; First, there were not significant differences in productivity by feed type. Second, results of the profitability analysis on farm M by feed type showed the profitability was estimated to be 15.52% and 9.83% in EP and MP, respectively. In addition, the profitability of farm S was estimated to be 28.37% and 33.72% in EP and MP, respectively. Third, results of the economic analysis on farm M by feed type indicated that an internal rate of return(IRR) was 8% and 7% and a benefit-cost ratio was shown to be 1.64 and 1.11 in EP and MP, respectively. Furthermore, the economic analysis of farm M by feed type showed that an IRR was 19% and 24% and a benefit-cost ratio was calculated to be 1.4 and 1.51 in EP and MP, respectively. In summary, it is especially emphasized that economic valuation is not related to feed types (EP and MP). Finally, in order to improve the economic feasibility, it should be more focused on the efficient business management of the Oliver flounder aquaculture.

  • The formula feed has been valuated its superiority in the aquaculture industry. However, the fish farmer is preferred the raw feed than the formula feed yet. The objectives of this study are to clarified the reason of lower usage of formula feed in aquaculture. We referred to the literature and the enquete, and inspected on-site for this study. Two types of managements, formula feed-usage or not, were compared and analyzed. The results show that the perception of formula feed are changing even though the quality of formula feed is not clear and the growth efficiency is lower than raw feed, because the domestic supply of raw feed was not smooth and the cost was raised.

  • An experiment was carried out to study the effects of exogenous enzymes (cellulases and proteases), yeast culture and effective micro-organism (EM) culture on feed digestibility and the performance of rabbits fed rice bran rich diets over a period of ten weeks. Twenty four, 8 to 9 weeks old male and female New Zealand White rabbits were allotted to 4 dietary treatments; a basal (control) feed containing 43% rice bran, basal feed supplemented with either enzymes, yeast culture or EM. Individual feed intake, body weight gain, nutrient digestibility, carcass characteristics and feed cost were studied. Sex of the rabbits had no significant (p<0.05) influence on the parameters studied. The control group showed the lowest daily feed intake (104.8 g), body weight gain (12.8 g) and the highest feed/gain ratio (8.20 g/g). The highest daily feed intake (114.3 g), body weight gain (20.42 g) and the lowest feed/gain ratio (5.60) were observed with enzymes. Compared to the control, yeast significantly (p<0.05) improved the feed intake, body weight gain and feed/gain ratio by 4.9, 34.4 and 22.0%, respectively, while EM improved (p<0.05) them by 4.0, 32.6 and 21.6%, respectively. All the additives improved (p<0.05) the digestibility of dry matter, crude protein, crude fiber and energy by 4.9-8.7, 3.6-10.7, 5.9-8.3 and 4.3-6.4%, respectively. Higher weights of pancreas (by 38.5-56.4%) and caecum (by 13.1-26.8%, compared to the control) were recorded with all additives but liver weight was increased only by yeast (24.5%) and enzymes (26.7%). Significantly (p<0.05) higher carcass recovery percentages were observed with enzymes (60.55), yeast (60.47) and EM (56.60) as compared to the control (48.52). Enzymes, yeast and EM reduced (p<0.05) the feed cost per kg live weight by 23.8, 15.9 and 15.5%, respectively. Results revealed that enzymes, yeast culture and EM can be used to improve the feeding value of agro-industrial by-products for rabbits in Sri Lanka and thereby to reduce the feed cost. Under the present feeding system, enzyme supplement was the best.

  • This experiment was conducted to study the optimum energy feeding regimens fur broiler breeders peaked in winter season with 400 caged hens of Ross strain. Four energy supply regimens which were different in daily energy allotment during laying period were employed for 40 weeks from 24 to 64 weeks of age. All experimental diets were formulated to contain 2,750 kcal ME/kg with adjustments made in total feed allotment to provide the desired energy levels. Total consumption of the feed would provide 20 g of protein, 4 g of calcium and 0.35 g of available phosphorus. There were no difference in hen-day egg production and average egg weight among the regimens of energy supply. Feed, ME and feed cost required per egg or per kg egg were significantly increased as the level of energy allotment increased(p<0.05). It was concluded that the energy supply regimen, which supplied 280 kcal ME per day at the age of 24 weeks and then increased the energy supply up to 400 kcal ME per day at the peak period of 30∼34 weeks of age, was superior in feed, ME and feed cost required per egg or per kg egg without any adverse effect on eg production and egg weight.

  • In this research, the composition of the feed stream is optimized in pressure swing distillation for separating of methanol-acetone. It is well known that the composition of feed stream in pressure swing distillation system has a great influence on the feasibility to separate mixture. The workscope of this study is to show better separation efficiency at specified pressure by controlling the composition of feed stream with recycle of two products. Based on the base case without recycle flow, two processes are designed that methanol and acetone are recycled to feed stream, respectively. Each processes are compared with total annual cost and as a result, the base case without recycle flow are most favorable.

  • Current feed-in tariffs(FIT) of Electricity generating from new and renewable energy sources are reappraised with the corrected formula of levelized generation cost(LGC) of utility power. The LGC of new and renewable electricity should be formulated in explicitly reflecting the capital cost and corporate tax during the economic life cycle based on its realistic application data. An applicable term of the FITs should, especially, be equal to the economic life cycle. The revised FITs issued in 2006 were, however, derived from the incorrect formula described in the study of KERI(Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute), and consequently misestimated. The reappraisal values for FIT of new and renewable electricity were shown and interpreted in this paper. An FIT of PV more than 30 kW, for example, should be 972.86 won/kWh instead of current 677.38 won/kWh increasing 43.6%. An upward revision of other FITs for new and renewable electricities should also be required in the range of 8.6% to 47.3%.

  • Feed is single most expensive input in commercial pork production representing more than 50% of the total cost of production. The greatest proportion of this cost is associated with the energy component, thus making energy the most important dietary in terms of cost. For efficient pork production, it is imperative that diets are formulated to accurately match dietary energy supply to requirements for maintenance and productive functions. To achieve this goal, it is critical that the energy value of feeds is precisely determined and that the energy system that best meets the energy needs of a pig is used. Therefore, the present review focuses on dietary supply and needs for pigs and the available energy systems for formulating swine diets with particular emphasis on the net energy system. In addition to providing a more accurate estimate of the energy available to the animal in an ingredient and the subsequent diet, diets formulated using the this system are typically lower in crude protein, which leads to additional benefits in terms of reduced nitrogen excretion and consequent environmental pollution. Furthermore, using the net energy system may reduce diet cost as it allows for increased use of feedstuffs containing fibre in place of feedstuffs containing starch. A brief review of the use of distiller dried grains with solubles in swine diets as an energy source is included.

  • In this paper, an optimal manufacturing system design problem in an automotive body assembly lines is introduced when various costs such as equipment investment costs are considered. Meta-model methodology based on simulation results has been used for estimating the performances of the system such as production rate and work-in-process levels. The objective function is minimizing total cost which satisfies the target production rate. The investment costs such as robots, buffers, transportation equipment, and the inventory holding cost of work-in-process have been included in the objective function. Harmony search method has been used for optimization.
