  • Estimating the economic life of a technology is the first important prerequisite step in the feasibility analysis of technology-based business. Many empirical studies have concentrated on patents data to estimate the time period for a technology. However, it is recommended to estimate it along with qualitative considerations of future technological and market conditions. In this regard, little is known about how approaches are applied. This paper aims to establish a structural framework of estimating the lifetime of a technology by integrating the outputs of an analysis of the determinants in each transition of a product life cycle. We describe an illustrative case about a light emitting diode (LED) backlight unit (BLU) technology for the liquid crystal display (LCD) TV. The framework allows valuators and experts to estimate a technology lifetime by using multidimensional factors.

  • The purpose of this research was to supplement the preceding study and to examine the feasibility of standardizing the Bayley Scales of Infant Development (BSID) for Korean infants. The subjects of this research were 93 healthy infants at 1-12 months of age living in Seoul. Seventy were the same infants as the subjects of the preceding research. Statistical analysis of the results was done by Item analysis and scalogram analysis using Green's method. The scalability of the BSID for Korean infants was .78 on the mental scale and .8l on the motor scale. Item order by counting positive responses was slightly different from the original BSID item order. On the feasibility of standardization of the BSID in Korea, the results showed that: 1) The BSID is scalable for Korean infant development, and 2) The BSID needs correction in item rank order.

  • Ready-mixed shotcrete mixed with high quality materials and can be controled shotcrete quality is producted in plants and transported to construction fields, so do not need a field batch plant. In this study, the field construction system that can be applied Ready-mixed Shotcrete to construction fields was proposed, and the all-in-one silo that was the key component of the field construction system was design. It was performed to evaluate the constructability that the field construction process analysis in case of applying a field batch plant and the all-in-one silo, the cost analysis of the material production and transport in a road tunnel was also performed to evaluate the economic feasibility of Ready-mixed shotcret.

  • In this research, we designed representative motion patterns that possibly occurred in sleep situation and evaluated the feasibility of the smartphone based movement recording technique. For this, we designed 7 motions such as posture change, head movement, arm movement (vertical, horizontal), leg movement and hand movement (flipping, folding). Movement was recorded by using the smartphone and the actimetry device simultaneously for comparing the feasibility of smartphone based recording. As a result of experiment, we found that the smartphone based movement recording well reflects the body movement, however, it shows the limitation in recording the small local movement such as hand motion compared with the reference actimetry device, Actiwatch.

  • This study conducted an analysis of economic feasibility with unit generating costs calculated based on scenarios of capacity factors, discount rates, government supporting rates, installation costs. However, It Is clear that few new and renewable energies can meet the tariffs [government purchasing prices] set by the government in light of the current market reality. Without the government support, solar PV is not economically feasible at the tariff of \716.40/kWh. in the case of wind Power, the current tariff of \107.66/kWh is not enough to make it competitive except for a mid- and large-scale wind farm The analysis showed that even small hydro is not economically acceptable at the current tariff of \73.69/kWh.

  • This paper aims to analyze the economic feasibility and investigate the possibility of elastic seismic design of wind-designed highrise concentrically braced frames considering change of mechanical properties of Korean steel under the strong wind and the low seismicity in Korea. To this end, first, highrise concentrically braced frames were designed considering strong wind load. And then, analyses of the economics of them were performed. The seismic performance evaluation of wind-designed highrise buildings was conducted using the response spectrum analysis procedure. Analysis results show that it is possible to save up to approximately 90% of the amount of steel on the 10% increase in steel strength without serviceability. However, with serviceability, the design sectional area of the steel with relatively high strength tends to increment considerably because of the lateral stiffness due to reduction of the inertia moment and so on. This point might apply to limitation of the steel with high tensile yield strength.

  • A feasibility study on the characterization of incipient insulator failure for distribution fault prediction is presented. In this study, real distribution data was collected and analyzed to isolate incipient failure signatures or parameters which were expected to show distinct behaviors before and after failure incident. Several signal analysis methods were applied to isolate the parameters and a new strategy of analysis, the event-date concept, was also applied to find a relationship between non-harmonic and high frequency signal activities and imminent insulator failures.

  • CWM(Coal Water Mixture) is a mixed fuel that consists of coal, water and additives. The main advantages of CWM are reducing the oil consumption and the air pollution materials such as flyash, dirt, and $SO_x$. This paper presented a case study for the economic feasibility analysis of changing an existing coal-oil power plant to a CWM power plant. The economic analysis of changing a coal-oil power plant to a CWM power plant was based on the total annual incremental costs of two power plants. We found that this project was economically and environmentally acceptable.

  • A study on environmental noise hasn't fully researched yet. As society has developed and the quality of life has improved, people started to show a concern about an environmental noise. To ensure a economic feasibility of countermeasures of noise, it is necessary to apply a cost-benefit analysis on choosing optimum measurements. In this study, we addressed the estimation method of the environmental noise value and several domestic and oversea case studies. We also estimate economic value of noise reduction level which is gained from applying noise reduction measurements.

  • This paper conducted an analysis of economic effects of offshore wind power in Korea with benefit/cost analysis. The existing feed-on tariff, which was too low to support wind power development, was recently replaced with a Renewable Portfolio Standard(RPS), effective from 2012. According to the new regulatory policy, The Korean government has announced a strategy to draw investments worth for offshore wind farms with a total capacity of 2.5 GW over the next eight years, which is expected the change of cost and benefit. After overview the offshore wind power development status, The effects on cost can be divided by economic, environmental and social factors. Each factor will be calculated and combined by both evaluating index and using Quantification methods. At the end, the implication for the evaluation of feasibility of offshore wind power of Korea will be done.
