Steady and Transient State Analysis on Three Phase-in One Enclosure Type HTS Cable (3상 일괄형 Pipe Type HTS 케이블의 정상 및 과도상태 해석)

  • This paper suggests an improved technique to establish the modeling regarding steady and transient state on three phase-in one cryostat type HTS(High Temperature Superconducting) cable. The proposed modeling is established using EMTP/ATPDraw and TACS and MODELS provided by that. It has higher accuracy than the conventional method, as the actual HTS cable is modelled. Steady and transient state analysis performed by EMTP/ATPDraw calculate the current of conductor, shield and former, respectively. In case of the transient state modeled quench state occurred by a single line-to-ground fault, current of conductor shield and former are also calculated, respectively. Especially, various fault resistances and angles are considered to improve the reliability during transient state analysis. Analysis results reveal that the proposed technique improves the accuracy of modeling.

Method for Detection of Saturation of a Current Transformer (전류변성기의 포화 검출을 위한 알고리즘 개발)

  • A Method for detection of saturation of a current transformer(CT) is proposed. The algorithm is initiated when the end point of a saturation period is detected. This detection is achieved by checking the time interval between the adjacent zero-crossing points of the second derivative of the secondary current. Once the end point of the saturation period is detected, the beginning point of the corresponding saturation period is determined by backward examination of the sum of the secondary current from the end point. The performance of the algorithm was evaluated for a-g faults on a 345 kV 100km overhead transmission line. The Electromagnetic Transient Program(EMTP) was used to generate fault current signals for different fault inception angles and different remanent fluxes. The performance evaluation shows that the proposed algorithm successfully detects the saturation period even in the presence of a remanent flux.

  • This paper considers a fault tolerant control problem for a spacecraft using wheels which are momentum exchanging devices. The control of a satellite with only two healthy wheels has been studied and its result has been presented. Two different configurations have been considered. When the yaw rate cannot be controlled directly by any control input, the desired yaw rate can be obtained by using the roll rate as a pseudo control. As a result, all three angular speeds have been stabilized, and two attitude angles including pitch and yaw have been controlled to converge to the desired values.

  • Digital technology has advanced significantly over the years both in terms of software tools and hardware availability. It is now applied extensively throughout many area of electrical engineering including protective relaying in power systems. Digital relays have numerous advantages over traditional analog relays, such as the ability to accomplish what is difficult or impossible using analog relays. Although non real-time simulators like PSCAD/EMTDC are employed to test the algorithms, such simulations are disadvantaged in that they cannot test the relay dynamically. Hence, real-time simulators like RTDS are used. However, the latter requires large space and is very expensive. This paper uses EMTP MODELS to simulate the power system and the distance relay. The distance relay algorithm is implemented and the distance relay is interfaced with a test power system. The distance relay's performance is then assessed interactively under various fault types, fault distances and fault inception angles. The test results show that we can simulate the distance relay effectively and we can examine the operation of the distance relay very closely including its drawbacks/limitations by using EMTP MODELS. Equally important, this approach facilitates any changes that need to be carried out in order to enhance the Distance Relay under test/examination.

  • 본 논문은 고온초전도한류기가 투입된 회로에 사고가 발생했을 경우 사고각에 따른 사고전류의 패턴에 관한 연구이다. 계통에 심각한 영향을 끼치는 이러한 사고전류의 순간 특성을 해석하기 위해 유도형 고온초전도한류기를 직접 제작하였으며 임의로 다른 각도에서 사고를 발생시켜 실험하였다. 임의의 사고각을 위해 triac으로 구성되어있는 위상각제어 및 사고 발생기를 부하와 직렬로 연결하였다. 또한, 순간적으로 큰 사고전류의 유입은 철심을 포화시키기에 충분하며 철심의 포화로 인해 상대투자율이 작아짐으로서 고온초전도한류기의 임피던스가 작게 발생하게 된다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 영향으로 인한 사고전류의 패턴에 관하여 연구하였다.

  • Digital technology has advanced very significantly over the years both in terms of software tools and hardware available. It is now applied extensively in many area of electrical engineering including protective relaying in power systems. However, the complex algorithms associated with the digital relays are difficult to test and verify in real time on real power systems. A Fast Contingency Screening Algorithm for On-line Transient Security Assessment Based on Stability Index

  • This paper describes a new ultra-fast contingency screening algorithm for on-line TSA without time simulation. All machines are represented in a classical model and the stability index is defined as the ratio between acceleration power during a fault and deceleration power after clearing the fault. Critical clustering of machines is done based on the stability index, and the power-angle curve of the critical machines is drawn assuming that the angles of the critical machines increase uniformly, while those of the non-critical ones remain constant. Finally, the critical clearing time (CCT) is computed using the power-angle curve. The proposed algorithm is tested on the KEPCO system comprised of 900-bus and 230-machines. The CCT values computed with the screening algorithm are in good agreement with those computed using the detailed model and the SIME method. The computation time for screening about 270 contingencies is 17 seconds with 1.2 GHz PC.

A Study on Slope Angle and Summit Level Analysis of the Taehwa River Basin (태화강 유역의 경사와 절봉면 분석)

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the Slope Angles and Summit Levels in the relation with the geological structures in the Taehwa River Basii where the NNE-SSW trending Yangsan fault and subsiduary fault are well developed. The mean slope angle in the Taehwa river basin is 12.18$^{\circ}$. The mean slope is higher in the volcanic and metamorphic terrain than in the area of granitic and sedimentary rocks. In view of a slope angle, the area can be divided into four categories, that is, low plains (0-5$^{\circ}$), hilly gentle slopes (5-15$^{\circ}$), moderate steep mountain slope (15-25$^{\circ}$), and steep mountain slope (over 25$^{\circ}$). The analysis of summit level exhibits that the mean of the highest points in the Taehwa River Basin composed mainly of the volcanic and metamorphic rocks is 327m.

The First Discovery of Quaternary Fault in the Western Part of the South Yangsan Fault - Sinwoo Site (양산단층 남부 이서 지역에서 최초로 발견된 제4기 단층 - 신우지점)

  • During the detailed geological survey around the southern Yangsan Fault, we newly found a Quaternary fault outcrop, which cuts unconsolidated sediments. The fault named the Sinwoo site, located in the Sinwoo pasture, Miho-ri, Duseo-myeon, Ulsan metropolitan city, is the first discovered Quaternary fault near the western part of the south Yangsan Fault. In this study, we provide information on characteristics of fault geometry and unconsolidated sediment at Sinwoo site based on the analysis data of topography, drainage, and lineament around the study site. The fault site is situated at pediment slope, but fan-shaped middle terrace, as well as thick sediment exposed at low terrace, indicates that the unconsolidated sediments have been deposited in the alluvial fan environment. The drainage develops to the third-order drainage system, and the first and the second drainage system meet at right angles to each other and form a radial drainage pattern. In addition, the NE-SW direction lineaments can be identified on the basis of the curvature of the river and the step of the topographic relief, running over the Sinwoo site. The fault of $N30-35^{\circ}E/79-82^{\circ}SE$ shows ~ 5.8 m apparent vertical offset and dominantly reverse-slip sense based on slickenline, rotation of pebbles, and drag folding at footwall. However, some discontinuous sediments observed in the footwall are interpreted as fissure-filling materials due to the strike-slip movement. Now, we are under multidisciplinary investigations of additional field survey and age dating in order to determine the evolution of Sinwoo site fault during the Quaternary.

  • This paper proposes the load distribution control allocation technique. The proposed method is designed by combining a conventional control allocation method with load distribution ability in order to reduce the stress acting on ailerons. By designing the weighting matrix as a function of the load distribution rule, the optimal deflection angles of each surface to satisfy both control goal and load distribution can be achieved. Moreover, rule based fault-tolerant control technique is also proposed. The rules are generated by considering both dominant control surfaces and the ratio of load distribution among surfaces. The performance of the proposed method is evaluated through numerical simulations.
