Comparative Analysis in Sensitivity of Cumulative Fatigue Damage of Mechanistic-Empirical Concrete Pavement Design Programs (역학적-경험적 콘크리트 포장설계 프로그램의 누적피로손상 민감도 비교분석)

  • The MEPDG(Mechanistic-Empirical Pavement Design Guide) developed based on the AASHTO Design Guide helps engineers find optimal alternatives by using traffic volume, climate, material property, and pavement structure as its input parameters. However, because technical problems were found in the MEPDG, efforts to improve the program by settling the problems have been continued. Meanwhile, another mechanistic-empirical design program has been developed by the KPRP(Korea Pavement Research Program) in Korea. To develop and improve the Korean design program reasonably, it is necessary to analyze the MEPDG and then compare programs each other. For concrete pavement, fatigue cracking is predicted by using very complicated logic different from other performance indicators. Therefore, in this paper, transfer functions of the fatigue cracking used in the version of 0.5, 1.0, and 1.1 of the MEPDG were analyzed. Sensitivity of the input parameters to the cumulative fatigue damage was compared to each other by the MEPDG version and KPRP.

  • Cumulative damage characteristics of concrete, on which rapetitive loads are applied, are investigated. Preliminarily, a series of uniaxial compression tests on cylindrical specimens of plain concrete is carried out to find out that, among various factors, stress levels of repetitive loadings and loading order are the most governing factors of cumulative damage of concrete. Based on this preliminary study, fatigue tests are carried out applying two levels of stresses, stepwisely. As a result, it is found that characteristics of cumulative damage of concrete are governed by nonlinear relationships and do not follow Miner's linear theory. It is also observed that cumulative damage characteristics and static strengths of concrete vary with loading history of stresses. Empirical equations which may be useful in predicting fatigue characteristics and remaining life of concrete stuctures are proposed for concrete subjected two stress levels.

  • Fatigue analysis of trunnion on Saemangeum bridge was performed. Trunnion is the some kind of bracket structure between the gate and the bridge peer with varying load by sea water level variation. The result shows some difference with ordinary structures.

  • In this study, the fatigue tests are performed on simply-supported R/C beams strengthened with steel plate and CFS (Carbon fiber sheet). Analysis results by Weibull distribution are compared with the test data. The unknown Weibull distribution parameters are estimated based on observations recorded in fatigue test. Safety factors for the number of cycles and the stress level are obtained. S-N-P curves are also generated from these testes and probabilities of failure.

  • In this thesis, the fatigue tests were performed on a series of R /C beams repaired with co& crete-lmlyrner composites to investigate the fatigue bahavior. The three point loading system is used in the fatigue tests. In these tests, relations between the repeated loading cycles and mid-span deflections, number of repeated loading cycles when repaired beams were fractured, the bonding performance of repair materials were observed. On this basis, the mid-span deflections, the crack growth and failure mode of repaired R /C beams were studied. A S-N curve was drawn to present the fatigue strength of repaired beams. From the test results, it was shown that behavior of R /C beams repaired with polymer-cement series were very sirnillar to control beam about bonding performance, mid-span deflections and fatigue strength according to S-N curve drawn by the regression anlysis on the fatigue test results.

  • In the concept of two-parameter fatigue failure criterion, the material fatigue failure is determined by the damage degree and the current stress level. Based on this viewpoint, a residual strength degradation model for stud shear connectors under fatigue loads is proposed in this study. First, existing residual strength degradation models and test data are summarized. Next, three series of 11 push-out specimen tests according to the standard push-out test method in Eurocode-4 are performed: the static strength test, the fatigue endurance test and the residual strength test. By introducing the "two-parameter fatigue failure criterion," a residual strength calculation model after cyclic loading is derived, considering the nonlinear fatigue damage and the current stress condition. The parameters are achieved by fitting the data from this study and some literature data. Finally, through verification using several literature reports, the results show that the model can better describe the strength degradation law of stud connectors.

A Study on Fatigue Characteristics and Economic Analysis of Discharged Nylon Fiber-Reinforced Asphalt Concrete (폐나일론을 이용한 섬유보강 아스팔트 콘크리트의 피로특성 및 경제성 분석)

  • In this study, discharged nylon fibers were added to asphalt concretes to be compared with fatigue life and analyzed in economic point of view. A four point bending fatigue test was conducted, and as a result, nylon fiber reinforced asphalt concretes that showed a 10percent increase in fatigue life compared to ordinary asphalt concrete. The economic analysis confirmed that the maintenance cost was decreased by 540 million won throughout the analyzing period. It is thought discharged nylon fiber reinforced asphalt will cause more economic and social effects than was shown by life cycle cost analysis.

  • 반복하중을 받는 무근 및 철근 콘크리트 부재는 하중의 반복작용에 의해 과도한 균열 및 처짐을 유발하고 결과적으로 전체 구조요소의 파괴를 일으킨다. 따라서 하중반복에 의한 누적손상의 진행과정을 정량적으로 평가하여 철근콘크리트 보의 사용성과 안전성을 평가하는 것이 중요하고 특히 취성적 거동 특성을 갖는 전단거동의 경우에 더욱 의미가 있다. 본 연구에서는 반복전단하중에 의한 누적손상의 정량적 분석을 위하여 평균변형도 및 평균응력개념에 기초한 수정압축장이론(modified compression field theory)에 의하여 누적손상 모델을 제안하였다. 본 연구에서 제안된 모델을 통하여 반복전단하중에 의한 처짐과 변형도의 변화를 평가하는데 유용하게 이용될 것으로 사료된다.

  • The major distresses in asphalt concrete pavement are rutting and fatigue cracking. Once the distresses are observed on pavement surface, an appropriate rehabilitation method should be found. Usually, asphalt patching or overlay methods are used to improve the pavement performance. The research presents the fundamental study on effective longitudinal rehabilitation methods for asphalt concrete pavements. The rehabilitation method will be applied to rutting that is occurred asphalt Pavement surface course and longitudinal cracking or fatigue cracking with light to moderate distress levels.

  • 최근들어 반복하중에 의한 철근콘크리트 구조물의 손상이 자주 발견되고 있으며 교량 등의 구조물 등은 때때로 과적차량에 의한 초과하중을 받아 이러한 피로손상이 심화되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 반복 하중을 받는 철근 콘크리트보의 누적피로손상에 대한 실험적 연구룰 수행하여 피로하중에 의한 철근콘크리트보의 손상과정을 규명하였다. 실험 변수를 전단철근의 양과 반복되는 하중의 크기 및 반복횟수로 하여 실험부재를 제작하였으며, 하중제어에 의한 휨시험법에 의해 3Hz의 반복하중을 시편에 재하하였다. 사인장 균열하중과 사인장 균열 후 반복하중에서의 보의 손상누적거동 즉 처짐. 전단철근의 변형도, 에너지 손실 등의 변화를 실험적으로 평가하였으며, 이를 통하여 반복하중에 의한 누적손상에 의해 철근 콘크리트보의처짐 및 전단변형도가 초기하중상태에서는 급격히 증가하다가 이후 점진적으로 증가하는 것을 규명하였다. 본 연구의 결과는 사용하중상태에서 점진적으로 발생할 수 있는 피로손상의 누적과정을 기술하여 주고 있다.
