The problem of residual stresses and fatigue behavior in welded structures is the main concern of welding research fields. The residual stresses and distortions of structures by welding exert negative effect on the safety of mechanical structures. Postweld heat treatment is usually carried out to relieve this residual stresses of welded joints. In this paper the influence of postweld heat treatment on fatigue life of butt-welded joint was investigated. To predict the effect of PWHT, an analytical model is developed by finite element and local strain approach and the result of fatigue life analysis is compared to experimental results. It is demonstrated that fatigue life estimates closely approximate the experimental results and PWHT provides some increase of fatigue lives in long-life fatigue region and no increase in short-life fatigue region because of the residual stress relaxation under tensile loads.
The Low cycle fatigue behavior of 11.7Cr-1.1Mo heat-resisting steel has been investigated under strain-controlled conditions with mean stresses at room temperature and $300^{\circ}C$. For the tensile mean stress test, the initial high tensile mean stress generally relaxed to zero at room temperature, however, at $300^{\circ}C$ initial tensile mean stress relaxed to compressive mean stress. Low cycle fatigue lives under mean stress conditions are usually correlated using modifications to the strain-life approach. Based on the fatigue test results from different stain ratio of -1, 0, 0.5, and 0.75 at room temperature and $300^{\circ}C$, the fatigue damage of the steel was represented by using cyclic strain energy density. Total strain energy density considering mean stress indicated well better than not considering mean stress at $300^{\circ}C$. Predicted fatigue life using Smith-Watson-Topper's parameter correlated fairly well with the experimental life at $300^{\circ}C$.
In this study, the prediction of the fatigue life as well as the extimation of the characteristics of fatigue cumulative damage on GFRP under random loading were performed. The constant amplitude tests and the ramdom loading test were carried on notched GFRP specimens with a circular hole. Random waves were generated with a micro-computer and had wide band spectra. Since it is useful that the prediction of fatigue life ot the given load sequences is based on S-N curves under constant amplitude loading, the estimation of equivalent stress is done on every random waves. The equivalent stress wasat first estimated by Miner's rule and then by the proposed model which was based on Hashin-Rotem's comulative damage theory regarding nonlinear fatigue cumulative damage behavior. The fatigue lives were predicted from each equivalent stress evaluated. And each predicted fatigue llife was compared with experimental results. The number of cycles of random loads were counted by mean-cross counting method. The reuslts showed that the fatigue life predicted by proposed model was correlated well with the experimental results in comparison with Miner's model.
Stress and fatigue are general physical aspects of our daily lives. It has been shown that physical therapists have different levels of job stress and fatigue according to the type A/B behavior patterns. This study collected data from 212 physical therapists between October 28 and November 23, 2016 using an anonymous, self-administered questionnaire. The study results showed the proportion of physical therapists with the Type A behavior patterns(TABP) was 18% greater than that of physical therapists with the Type B behavior patterns(TBBP). In this study, physical therapists with TABP were compared with physical therapists with TBBP. The results indicated that physical therapists with TABP were more inclined to experience higher levels of overall job stress and fatigue from the following stress factors: physical environment, job requirement, and job autonomy. Therefore, the stronger the tendency toward TABP, the stronger the feeling of job stress and fatigue from physical environment, job requirement, and job autonomy. Those with a tendency toward TBBP showed positive correlations between job requirement and the total job stress score; thus, the stronger the tendency toward TBBP, the stronger the feeling of overall job stress and fatigue from job requirement. This study suggests that it is necessary to manage the job stress and fatigue of physical therapists with both TABP and TBBP and to manage the job stress and fatigue of physical therapists with the type A behavioral pattern.
The extensive use of prestressed reinforced concrete (PSC) highway bridges in marine environment drastically increases the sensitivity to both fatigue-and corrosion-induced damage of their critical structural components during their service lives. Within this scenario, an integrated method that is capable of evaluating the fatigue reliability, identifying a condition-based maintenance, and predicting the remaining service life of its critical components is therefore needed. To accomplish this goal, a procedure for fatigue reliability prediction of PSC highway bridges is proposed in the present study. Vehicle-bridge coupling vibration analysis is performed for obtaining the equivalent moment ranges of critical section of bridges under typical fatigue truck models. Three-dimensional nonlinear mathematical models of fatigue trucks are simplified as an eleven-degree-of-freedom system. Road surface roughness is simulated as zero-mean stationary Gaussian random processes using the trigonometric series method. The time-dependent stress-concentration factors of reinforcing bars and prestressing tendons are accounted for more accurate stress ranges determination. The limit state functions are constructed according to the Miner's linear damage rule, the time-dependent S-N curves of prestressing tendons and the site-specific stress cycle prediction. The effectiveness of the methodology framework is demonstrated to a T-type simple supported multi-girder bridge for fatigue reliability evaluation.
This study analyzes structural stress and fatigue about three types of automotive wheels. As maximum equivalent stresses at 1, 2 and 3 types become lower than the yield stress of material and deformations become minute, theses types are thought be safe on durability. Type 2 model has the most fatigue life among three kinds of types and the rest of models with fatigue lives are shown in the order of type 1 and 3. As the most fatigue frequency of type 2 model happens at the state of average stress and amplitude stress on the stress range narrower than type 1 or 3, type 2 model becomes most stable. In case of type 2 with the state near the average stress of 0 MPa and the amplitude stress of 300MPa, the possibility of maximum damage becomes 30%. This stress state can be shown as the most damage possibility. These study results can be effectively utilized with the design on automotive wheel by anticipating and investigating prevention and durability against its damage.
In this paper, using the formulation of dynamic equivalent load considering the effects of moment load and the equation to estimate the cage rotational speed, the new life equation of deep groove ball bearing under radial and moment loads was proposed. Fatigue life test apparatus with the measuring equipment of shaft and cage speed was designed and developed to be capable of subjecting combined radial and moment load. Fatigue life tests were executed by sudden death test method and the reliability of fatigue lives was evaluated by Weibull distribution analysis. From the results of fatigue tests and analysis, the relationships between film parameters and life adjustment factors were acquired. And it was turned out that so as to estimate the effect of moment load on fatigue life, the life adjustment factor as well as the dynamic equivalent load must be taken into account.
The fatigue life of welded joints is sensitive to welding residual stress and complexity of their geometric shapes. To predict the fatigue life more reasonably. the effects of welding residual stress and its relaxation on their fatigue strengths should be considered quantitatively, which are often regarded to be equivalent to the effects of mean stresses by external loads. The hot-spot stress concept should be also adopted which can reduce the dependence of fatigue strengths for various welding details. Considering the factors mentioned above, a fatigue life prediction model using the modified Goodman's diagram was proposed. In this model, an equivalent stress was introduced which is composed of the mean stress based on the hot-spot stress concept and the relaxed welding residual stress. From the verification of the proposed model to real welding details, it is proved that this model can be applied to predict reasonably their fatigue lives.

The effect of additive chemistry on the serface fatigue of gears was investigated using the FZG gear tester and fluids based on an API GL-5 grade oil. Surface fatigue lives were determined as a function of load and additive chemistry. At 1.52 GPa, the removal of the primary extreme pressure additive (EP) from the fully formulated gear oil decreased the fatigue life of gears slightly (4%), however, the removal of the primary antiwear additive (AW) decreased the fatigue life of gears significantly (83%). At 1.86 GPa, the removal of the EP additive from the fully formulated gear oil decresed the gear fatigue life 27%, however, the removal of the primary AW additive decreased the fatigue life of gears significantly (75%). Micropitting was the dominant surface morphology in the dedendum of gears tested With two oils at load stage: one using the complete additive package, and a second where the EP additive has been removed. However, spalling is the primary failure mode of gears tested without an AW additive independent of whether an EP agent was present. Surface analysis of pinion gears showed the formation of a mixed phosphate/phosphite-oxide layer on the surface of gears tested with fluids containing an AW. Formation of this layer seems to be key to long fatigue life.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effect of fatigue on the relationship between pain and sleep disturbance in patients with ankylosing spondylitis. Methods: The subjects of this study were 109 patients with ankylosing spondylitis who visited the rheumatology department in a university hospital. Subjects completed structured questionnaires measuring pain, sleep disturbance, and fatigue. Data were analyzed using t-test, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and 3-step regression analysis. Results: Pain was positively correlated with fatigue (r=.60, p<.001) and sleep disturbance (r=.45, p<.001). Fatigue was positively correlated with sleep disturbance (r=.55, p<.001) and had a mediating effect on the relationship between pain and sleep disturbance. Conclusion: The findings confirm that pain in patients with ankylosing spondylitis affects fatigue and its accumulation has a mediating effect on increasing the level of sleep disturbance. In clinical practice, education on symptom management for patients with ankylosing spondylitis needs to be provided for encouraging proper exercise and rest. Patient education should also include strategies to reduce fatigue and promote sleep in daily lives in addition to pain management.
