We propose the crack growth rate equation which will model fatigue crack growth rate behavior such that constant stress amplitude fatigue crack growth behavior can be predicted. Constant stress amplitude fatigue tests are conducted for four materials under three stress ratios of R=0.2, R=0.4 and R=0.6. Materials which have different mechanical properties i.e. stainless steel, low carbon steel, medium carbon steel and aluminum alloy are used. Through constant stress amplitude fatigue test by using unloading elastic compliance method, it is confirmed that crack closure is a close relationship with fatigue crack propagation. We describe simply fatigue crack propagation behavior as a function of the effective stress intensity factor range ($\Delta$$K_{eff}$=U .$\Delta$K) for all three regions (threshold region, stable region). The fatigue crack growth rate equation is given by da / dN=A($\Delta$$K_{eff}$$\Delta$$K_{o}$ )$^{m}$ / ($\Delta$$K_{eff}$$\Delta$K) Where, A and m are material constants, and $\Delta$$K_{o}$ is stress intensity factor range at low $\Delta$K region. $K_{cf}$ is critical fatigue stress intensity factor.actor.

The shaft with the circular cross section has symmetric structural combination parts to keep the rotating balance. Hence the crack usually initiates from symmetric combination parts due to the stress concentration of these parts. In this study to estimate the fatigue behavior of symmetric cracks, the fatigue test was performed by using a rotary bending tester and the specimen with symmetric defects in circular cross section. The characteristics of crack initiation and propagation on the symmetric surface cracks in circular cross section were examined. We also observed the internal crack using the oxidation coloring method and investigated the fatigue behavior using the relationship between the surface crack and the internal crack. As a result, the fatigue life of symmetric cracks was reduced by 35% compared to that of a single crack. We examined the characteristics of fatigue behavior of elements with symmetric cracks using internal crack propagation rate and maximum stress intensity factor range that were obtained from an approximation method.
Fatigue life and penetration behavior were examined analytically by variety of initial front face crack length and initial crack depth. The fatigue crack shape before penetration is almost semielliptical, and the aspect ratio by calculation using the Newman-Raju's formula is smaller than the value obtained by the experiment. It is found that the crack growth behavior on the back surface after penetration is unique and can be divided into three stage a, b and c. By using the K value proposed by the authors, particular crack growth behavior and the change in crack shape can be evaluated quantitatively. It is found that fatigue life and penetration behavior were more dependent on initial front face crack length than initial crack depth.
In this study, fatigue crack behavior between arbitrarily located defects was investigated by experiment. Especially, stress interaction between micro hole defects and fatigue cracking, and fatigue crack initiation life following the variation of location of micro hole defects were considered. In addition, crack initiation position by micro hole stress interaction and the relationship between stress concentration factor and fatigue initiation life are studied in detail.
Generally, the life of casting mold is limited by fatigue fracture or dimensional inaccuracy originated from wear in high temperature. Although recent research of metallic materials in high temperature fatigue have been much accomplished, many studies on brittle material as a die steel in high temperature fatigue does not have been reported. Especially, the study on the fatigue behavior over the transformation temperature is not studied sufficiently because of its difficult analysis and experiment. Therefore, reliable results of brittle material in high temperature fatigue behavior are needed. In this paper, stress-strain curves and stress-life curves in die STD61 steel are carefully examined between room temperature and 90$0^{\circ}C$, as the basic experimental data are used to predict from fatigue life of casting mold.
The integrity of stiffened panels with stringers in airplane structure is generally enhanced by investigating the fatigue crack propagation behavior in detail and providing the technical methodology to deal with the propagating crack. This paper attempts to clarify the effect of load-ratio on the fatigue crack propagation rate and the fatigue life for the thin aluminum 2024-T3. Both the variable and the constant fatigue loading conditions are considered for the fatigue crack propagation behavior in stiffened panels with stringers.
The fatigue failure of rail is a principal source of derailment accidents. The reduction of fatigue failures can be achieved by Intensive track maintenance and periodic safety assessments for the railway. For the safety assessments, it is required to have more accurate knowledge for fatigue behavior such as the crack initiation, propagation, crack growth rate and the remaining service life in rail. In this paper, the mean stress effects for the fatigue behavior of rail steel are studied. For this study, the fatigue test is conducted and some equations for fatigue evaluation are applied and compared. From the results, we can see that the fatigue crack growth rate is the more increased as the men stress Is the more increased, the mean stress effect is represented well by the combination of stress intensity factor range and maximum stress intensity factor and Crooker and Range's equation represented by ${\Delta}K, K_{max}$ is the best fit for fatigue evaluation and safety assessment of rail.
Due to the scarcity of extortionate experimental data, fatigue failure of the reinforced concrete (RC) element might be achieved economically adopting nonlinear finite element (FE) analysis as an alternative approach. However, conventional implicit dynamic analysis is expensive, quasi-static method overlooks interaction effects and inertia, direct cyclic analysis computes stabilized responses. Apart from this, explicit dynamic analysis may provide a numerical operating system for factual long-term responses. The study explores the fatigue behavior based on a simplified explicit dynamic solution employing nonlinear time domain analysis. Among fourteen RC beams, one beam is selected to validate under static loading, one under fatigue with the experimental study and other twelve to check the detail fatigue behavior. The SWOT (Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, Threats) analysis has been carried out to pinpoint the detail scenario in the adoption of numerical approach as an alternative to the experimental study. Excellent agreement of FE and experimental results is seen. The 3D nonlinear RC beam model at service fatigue limits is truthful to be used as an expedient contrivance to envisage the precise fatigue behavior. The simplified analysis approach for RC beam under fatigue offers savings in computation to predict responses providing acceptable accuracy rather than the complicated laboratory investigation. At higher frequency, the flexural failure occurs a bit earlier gradually compared to the repeated loading case of lower frequency. The deflection increases by 6%-10% at the end of first cycle for beams with increasing frequency of cyclic loading. However, at the end of fatigue loading, greater deflection occur earlier for higher load range because of more rapid stiffness degradation. For higher frequency, a slight boost in concrete compressive strains at an initial stage of loading has been seen indicating somewhat stepper increment. Stiffness degradation in larger loading cycle at same duration escalates the upsurge of the rate of strain in case of higher frequency.
Zero to tension fatigue tests and strain controlled fatigue tests were carried out to find how initial strain induced martensite, ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ affects low and high cycle fatigue behavior and fatigue crack growth mechanisms. Microscopic study and phase analysis were carried out with TEM, SEM, EDAX, Optical Microscope, Ferriscope, and X-ray diffractometry. The amount of Initial ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ was controlled from 0% to 33% by controlling the temperatures for cold working and heat treatment. Lower contents of initial ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ showed higher fatigue resistance in low cycle fatigue but lower fatigue resistance in high cycle fatigue because it is ascribed to the more transformation of ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ martensite during low cycle fatigue and higher ductility. In high cycle fatigue, fatigue life is attributed to the strength and phase transformation of austenite into ${\alpha}^{\prime}$ during fatigue was negligible. ${\gamma}$ boundary, ${\gamma}/twin$ boundary, and ${\gamma}/{\alpha}^{\prime}$ boundary were found to be the preferred site of fatigue crack initiation.
In order to study the fatigue performance of the flat steel plate-lightweight aggregate concrete hollow composite bridge slab subjected to fatigue load, both static test on two specimens and fatigue test on six specimens were conducted. The effects of the arrangement of the steel pipes, the amplitude of the fatigue load and the upper limit as well as lower limit of fatigue load on failure performance were investigated. Besides, for specimens in fatigue test, strains of the concrete, residual deflection, bending stiffness, residual bearing capacity and dynamic response were analyzed. Test results showed that the specimens failed in the fracture of the bottom flat steel plate regardless of the arrangement of the steel pipes. Moreover, the fatigue loading cycles of composite slab were mainly controlled by the amplitude of the fatigue load, but the influences of upper limit and lower limit of fatigue load on fatigue life was slight. The fatigue life of the composite bridge slabs can be determined by the fatigue strength of bottom flat steel plate, which can be calculated by the method of allowable stress amplitude in steel structure design code.
