In this paper, we propose a fast motion estimation algorithm using adaptive elimination of sub-block partial coefficients. The proposed algorithm predicts an adaptive threshold for each sub-block by using relationship of an initial sum of absolute difference(SAD) and a minimum SAD at the current point, and efficiently reduces unnecessary calculation time of the conventional partial distortion elimination(PDE) algorithm with the predicted threshold. Our algorithm reduces about 60% of computations of the conventional PDE algorithm without any degradation of prediction quality compared with the con ventional full search. Additionally, the proposed algorithm can be applied to other fast motion estimation 떠gorithms. the proposed Our proposing algorithm will be useful to real-time video coding applications using MPEG-2 or MPEG-4 AVC standards.
We propose a fast macroblock (MB) mode prediction and decision algorithm based on temporal correlation for P-slices in the H.264/AVC video standard. There are eight block types for temporal decorrelation, including SKIP mode based on rate-distortion (RD) optimization. This scheme gives rise to exhaustive computations (search) in the coding procedure. To overcome this problem, a thresholding method for fast inter mode decision using a MB tracking scheme to find the most correlated block and RD cost of the correlated block is suggested for early stop of the inter mode determination. We propose a two-step inter mode candidate selection method using statistical analysis. In the first step, a mode is selected based on the mode information of the co-located MB from the previous frame. Then, an adaptive thresholding scheme is applied using the RD cost of the most correlated MB. Secondly, additional candidate modes are considered to determine the best mode of the initial candidate modes that does not satisfy the designed thresholding rule. Comparative analysis shows that a speed-up factor of up to 70.59% is obtained when compared with the full mode search method with a negligible bit increment and a minimal loss of image quality.
In this paper, a computationally efficient time delay and doppler estimation algorithm is proposed for active sonar with Linear Frequency Modulated (LFM) signal. To reduce the computational burden of the conventional estimation algorithm, an algebraic equation is used which represents the relationship between the time delay and doppler in cross-ambiguity function of the LFM signal. The algebraic equation is derived based on the Fast maximum Likelihood (FML) method. Using this algebraic relation, the time delay and doppler are estimated with two 1-D search instead of the conventional 2-D search. The estimation errors of the proposed algorithm are analyzed for various SNR's. The simulation result demonstrates the good performance of the proposed algorithm.
This study focuses on the modeling file search engine and suggesting modified file search schema based on weight value using file contents in order to improve the performance in terms of search accuracy and matching time. Most of the file search engines have used string matching algorithms like KMP(Knuth.Morris.Pratt), which may limit portability and fast searching time. However, this kind of algorithms don't find exactly the files what you want. Hence, the file search engine based on weight value using file contents is proposed here in order to optimize the performance for mobile environments. The Comparison with previous research shows that the proposed schema provides better.

The motion estimation algorithm based block matching is a widely used in the international standards related to video compression, such as the MPEG series and H.26x series. Full search algorithm(FA) ones of this block matching algorithms is usually impractical because of the large number of computations required for large search region. Fast search algorithms and conventional binary block matching algorithms reduce computational complexity and data processing time but this algorithms have disadvantages that is less performance than full search algorithm. This paper presents new Boolean matching algorithm, called BCBM(Bit Converted Boolean Matching). Proposed algorithm has performance closed to the FA by Boolean only block matching that may be very efficiently implemented in hardware for real time video communication. Simulation results show that the PSNR of the proposed algorithm is about 0.08㏈ loss than FA but is about 0.96∼2.02㏈ gain than fast search algorithm and conventional Boolean matching algorithm.

In this paper, we propose two fast block matching algorithm using the distribution of mean absolute difference (MAD) at the search region overlapped with neighbor blocks and pixel subsapmling. The proposed methods use the lower and upper bound of MAD at the overlapped search region which is calculated from the MAD of neighbor block at that search position and MAD between the current block and neighbor block. In the first algorithm, we can reduce the computational complexity by executing the block matching operation at the only necessary search points. That points are selected using the lower bound of MAD. In the second algorithm, we use the statictical distribution of actual MAD which exists between the lower bound and upper bound of MAD. By using the statistical distribution of actual MAD, we can significantly reduce the computational complexity for motion estimation. after striking space key 2 times.

In this Paper, we propose a new motion search algorithm called CDTS (Cross-Diamond-Triangle Search algorithm) that uses optimal search pattern according to the position of a search area to improve the performance of CDS(Cross-Diamond Search algorithm) as well as CDHSs(Cross-Diamond-Hexagonal Searches algorithms). We analyze motion distributions in various test video sequences to apply optimal search pattern according to a position of search area. Based on the result of this analysis, we propose a new triangle-shaped search pattern whose structure is asymmetric while previous search patterns are generally symmetric in conventional algorithms. In CDTS, we apply cross- and diamond-shaped search patterns to central search areas, and triangle- and diamond-shaped patterns to the other areas. Applying CDTS to test video sequences, the proposed scheme can reduce search points more than CDS and CDHSs by 16.22$\%$ and 3.09$\%$, respectively, without any visual quality degradation.
In this paper, we propose a fast motion estimation algorithm which is important in video encoding. So many fast motion estimation algorithms have been published for improving prediction quality and computational reduction. In the paper, we propose an algorithm that reduces unnecessary computation, while almost keeping prediction quality compared with the full search algorithm. The proposed algorithm calculates the sum of partial block matching error for each candidate, selects the candidates for the next step, compares the stability of optimal candidates with minimum error, and finds optimal motion vectors by determining the progress of the next step. By doing that, we can find the minimum error point as soon as possible and obtain fast computational speed by reducing unnecessary computations. Additionally, the proposed algorithm can be used with conventional fast motion estimation algorithms and prove it in the experimental results.

several papers have reported that parallel heuristics or hybrid approaches combining several heuristics can get better results. However, the parallelization and hybridization of any search methods on the single CPU type computer need enormous computation time. that case, we need more elegant combination method. For this purpose, we propose Fast Model of Parallel Heuristics(FMPH). FMPH is based on the island model of parallel genetic algorithms and takes local search to the elite solution obtained form each island(sub group). In this paper we introduce how can we adapt FMPH to the job-shop scheduling problem notorious as the most difficult NP-hard problem and report the excellent results of several famous benchmark problems.

In this paper we introduce the correlation-aided distributed sample acquisition (CDSA) scheme for fast cell search in IMT-2000 W-CDMA cellular system. The proposed scheme incorporates the state symbol correlation process into the comparison-correction based synchronization process of the original DSA scheme to enable fast acquisition even under very poor channel environment. for its realization, each mobile station (MS) has to store in its memory a set of state sample sequences. which are determined by the long-period scrambling sequences used in the system and the sampling interval of the state samples. CDSA based cell search is carried out in two stages : First, the MS first acquires the slot timing by using the primary synch code (PSC) and then identifies the igniter code which conveys the state samples of the current cell . Secondly. the MS identifies the scrambling code and frame timing by taking the comparison-correction based synchronization approach and, if the identification is not done satisfactorily within preset time. it initiates the state symbol correlation process which correlates the received symbol sequence with the pre-stored state sample sequences for a successful identification. As the state symbol SNR is relatively high. the state symbol correlation process enables reliable synchronization even in very low chip-SNR environment. Simulation results show that the proposed CDSA scheme outperforms the 3GPP 3-step approach, requiring the signal power of about 7 dB less for achieving the same acquisition time performance in low-SNR environments. Furthermore, it turns out very robust in the typical synchronization environment where large frequency offset exists.
