Fast Device Discovery for Remote Device Management in Lighting Control Networks

  • The Remote Device Management (RDM) protocol is used to manage the devices in the lighting control networks. RDM provides bi-directional communications between a controller and many lighting devices over the DMX512-A network. In RDM, using a simple binary search scheme, which is based on the 48-bit unique ID (UID) of each device, discovers the lighting devices. However, the existing binary search scheme tends to require a large delay in the device discovery process. In this paper, we propose a novel partition-based discovery scheme for fast device discovery in RDM. In the proposed scheme, all devices are divided into several partitions as per the device UID, and the controller performs device discovery for each partition by configuring a response timer that each device will use. From numerical simulations, we can see that there is an optimal number of partitions to minimize the device discovery time for a given number of devices in the proposed scheme, and also that the proposed partition-based scheme can reduce the device discovery time, as compared to the existing binary search scheme.

  • The patterned vertical alignment (PVA) display showed good electro-optic properties such as wide viewing angle, fast response time, high Contrast Ratio. However, the device has patterned electrode on both top and bottom electrodes which requires high accuracy of assembling of top and bottom substrates in order to exhibit a high performance. So, they have disadvantage about low yield. In order to resolve these problem, in this paper, we studied about top substrate pattern free vertical alignment device associated with surface polymer stabilization using the UV curable monomer. This method shows simple progress, low cost and good electro-optic properties such as high transmittance and fast response time.

  • 본 논문은 신경 회로망과 유전 알고리즘을 이용한 비선형 시스템 모델링을 다룬다. 비선형 함수의 근사성 때문에 시스템을 식별하고 제어하기 위해서 신경 회로망을 응용한 연구가 실제로 많이 이루어지고 있다. 빠른 응답시간과 최소의 오차를 위해서는 최적구조 신경 회로망을 설계하는 것이 중요하다. 유선 알고리즘은 최근에 단순성과 견고성 때문에 점점 많이 이용되는 추세이다. 따라서 본 논문에서는 유선알고리즘을 이용하여 신경회로망을 최적화한다. 오차와 응답시간을 최소화하는 신경 회로망 구조를 위해서 유전알고리즘의 유전자로 이진 코딩하여 최적 신경회로망을 탐색하고자 한다. 시뮬레이션을 통해서, 최적 신경회로망 구조가 비선형 시스템 식별에 효과적인 것을 입증하고자 한다.

성능 주도의 UI-Mashup 아키텍처의 설계 및 구현 (Design and Implementation of the Performance Driven UI-Mashup Architecture)

  • UI-Mashup은 웹 응용프로그램 개발의 최신 경향 중 하나로 인터넷 상에 분산된 다양한 콘텐츠를 조합하여 가치를 추가해 서비스하는 방안으로 널리 사용되고 있다. 현재까지 UI-Mashup 관련 연구는 동적 서비스 조합에 초점이 맞추어져 있고 급변하는 웹 표준에 적응하지 못하여 최종 사용자 입장에서 UI-Mashup은 느리고 불편하며 보안에 취약한 서비스로 인식되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 UI-Mashup의 성능 향상을 위한 아키텍처를 제안한다. 제안한 아키텍처는 빠른 서비스 제공과 보안 강화를 위해 UI조각을 서버에서 병렬로 수집하고 매쉬업된 UI의 레이아웃과 UI조각들을 별도의 전송 채널을 통해 클라이언트로 전송하여 빠른 반응시간과 응답시간을 제공한다. 본 연구에서는 제안한 아키텍처를 실증적으로 검증하기 위해 구현하였으며 성능테스트를 진행하였다. 성능테스트 결과 제안한 아키텍처는 기존 UI-Mashup 기법에 비해 2 ~ 3배 빠른 응답시간을 기록하였고, 4배이상의 처리량을 보였다.

광결정 기반의 휘발성 유기 화합물 검지 박막 센서 (Photonic-Crystal-Based Thin Film Sensor for Detecting Volatile Organic Compounds)

  • 휘발성 유기화합물과 같은 환경유해물질의 조기 검지는 인체 및 환경보호를 위한 중요성을 가진다. 그러나 기존의 모니터링 기술은 많은 시간과 값비싼 장비를 필요로 하고 있다. 본 논문에서는, 무전원으로 작동가능하며, 휴대가 용이하고 빠른 응답속도를 가지는 광결정 기반의 VOC 검출용 박막센서를 제안하였다. 휘발성 유기 화합물은 Polydimethylsiloxane(PDMS)를 팽창시키는 능력을 가지고 있어, 제안된 센서에 휘발성 유기 화합물이 노출되면 PDMS 가 팽창함에 따라 광결정의 구조변화를 가져오므로 색이 변하게 된다. 이러한 원리에 기초하여 휘발성 유기 화합물에 노출되었을 때 가시광선 영역의 정량적 색변화를 통해 검출할 수 있는 환경센서를 구현하였다. 제안된 센서는 수 초 이내의 빠른 반응속도를 보이며, 기체 상태의 휘발성 유기 화합물에도 색 변화를 일으키는 것을 성공적으로 확인하였다.

The Effects of Light and $CO_2$ on the Changes of Electrical Potential Difference in Isolated Epidermis and Intact Leaves of Commeina communis L

  • The effects of light and $CO_2$ on the electrophysiological characteristics of guard cells in the intact leaf and isolated epidermis have been investigated. Fast hyperpolarization of guard cell apoplastic PD in the intact leaf was recorded reaching up to around 7 mV and 20 mV in response to light and $CO_2$. Whenever the experiments were attempted with isolated epidermis, there was no response to light and $CO_2$. In order to determine the influence of the mesophyll cells, the apoplastic PD of guard cells in isolated epidermis was measured in the presence of the mesophyll supernatant or the control medium. The apoplastic PD in isolated epidermis was hyperpolarized to -7mV, changing from -22mV to -29mV at 40 min. But, when isolated epidermis was incubated with the supernatant from mesophyll cells incubated in the light, the apoplastic PD in isolated epidermis was hyperpolarized to -19 mV, changing from -22 mV to -40.5 mV. $CO_2$ also caused a change of 0.1 to 0.3 pH unit in the intact leaf. However, this change was absent in isolated epidermis. A vibrating probe was used to detect the change in electrical currents at the surface of excised intact leaves and isolated epidermis. The reading of excised intact leaves in the dark was $0.5\muA\;cm^{-2},$ remaining steady until illuminated. Light increased the current on the surface of excised leaves to about $0.8\muA\;cm^{-2},$. However, light had no effect in the current on the surface of isolated epidermis. Apoplastic pH changes across the stomatal complex in response to light and dark were measured both in the intact leaves and isolated epidermis over the same time period using pH micro-electrodes. The guard cell wall of intact leaf was acidified to 2.5 pH unit, falling from pH 7.5 to pH 5.0 in the first 10 min. in the light. At the same time the guard cell wall pH of isolated epidermis fell from pH 7.5 to pH 7.0 at 10 min. The guard cell wall pH of isolated epidermis incubated in the mesophyll supernatant fell from pH 7.6 to pH 6.7 at 10 min. Likewise, It could be imagined that an electrical signal, chemicals and hormones propagated from the mesophyll in response to light and $CO_2$ could control a fast stomatal response.

A Novel Technique for Tuning PI-Controllers in Induction Motor Drive Systems for Electric Vehicle Applications

  • In the last decade, the increasing restrictions imposed on the exhaust emissions from internal combustion engines and traffic limitations have increased the development of electrical propulsion systems for automotive applications. The goal of electrical and hybrid vehicles is the reduction of global emissions, which in turn leads to a decrease in fuel resource exploitation. This paper presents a novel approach for control of Induction Motors (IM) using the Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) algorithm to optimize the parameters of the Proportional Integral Controller (PI-Controller). The overall system is simulated under various operating conditions. The use of PSO as an optimization algorithm makes the drive robust and insensitive to load variation with faster dynamic response and higher accuracy. The system is tested under variable operating conditions. The simulation results show a positive dynamic response with fast recovery time.

  • Current seismic design codes for building structures are based on the methods which can provide enough capacity to satisfy objected performance level and exactly evaluate the seismic performance of buildings. Pushover analysis of fast becoming an accepted method for the seismic evaluation of building structures. The popularity of this approximate, nonlinear static analysis method is due to its conceptual simplicity and ability to graphically describe a capacity and demand of structure. However, some of the shortcomings of the pushover analysis, especially for longer period and irregular buildings, is the inability of method to identify failure mechanisms due to effects of higher modes. In this paper proposed lateral load pattern which includes the contribution of higher modes of vibration for irregular building structure and compared to seismic response obtained by time history.

Fuzzy-based PID Controller for Cascade Process Control

  • This paper describes the development of a fuzzy logic control based on PID controller to improve the performances of the control system using conventional PID controller for the cascade process control systems. The structure of the proposed control system consists of two fuzzy-based PID controllers. One is used to eliminate the input disturbances of the inner loop and the other is used to regulate output response of the outer loop. The fuzzy PID design is derived from the linear-time continuous function of the conventional PID controller. The performance of the proposed controller is verified by MATLAB/SIMULINK simulation. Results of simulation studies demonstrates the outstanding of the control system using fuzzy-based PID controller in terms of reduced overshoot and fast response compared with the conventional PID controller.

비대칭 초기 조건을 갖는 얕은 아치의 동적 불안정과 순시 주파수 변화 (Dynamic Instability and Instantaneous Frequency of a Shallow Arch With Asymmetric Initial Conditions)

  • This paper examined the dynamic instability of a shallow arch according to the response characteristics when nearing critical loads. The frequency changing feathers of the time-domain increasing the loads are analyzed using Fast Fourier Transformation (FFT), while the response signal around the critical loads are analyzed using Hilbert-Huang Transformation (HHT). This study reveals that the models with an arch shape of h = 3 or higher exhibit buckling, which is very sensitive to the asymmetric initial conditions. Also, the critical buckling load increases as the shape increases, with its feather varying depending on the asymmetric initial conditions. Decomposition results show the decrease in predominant frequency before the threshold as the load increases, and the predominant period doubles at the critical level. In the vicinity of the critical level, sections rapidly manifest the displacement increase, with the changes in Instantaneous Frequency (IF) and Instant Energy (IE) becoming apparent.
