  • This study suggests a Korean fashion design education model through a comparison of the fashion design curriculum and education systems in the USA, Europe, and Korea. For this, a case study of fashion design curriculum and education systems in the USA was performed with literature reviews about education methodology and design process to develop creativity, following the prior study, A Comparative Study on Fashion Design in Europe and Korea. For the case study, 12 superior fashion design education institutions in the USA were chosen from fashionista (N.Y.) and the goals, the emphases, the constitution of the online curriculum of each undergraduate fashion design course were examined. As a result of this study, Korean fashion design education model (1+2.5+0.5 model), was proposed by integrating the education systems of the USA and Europe, as follow: First, Korean fashion design education institutions need to be characterized and the departments/majors should be gradually specialized by the major. Second, foundation courses prior to undergraduate courses or during the 1st year should be established to result in a multi- disciplinary basic education. Third, a project based major needs to be performed that connects fashion design subjects with their related subjects for 2 and a half years as of the $2^{nd}$ year. These projects can be progressed by problem-solving design process of problem-identification and brainstorming-research, analysis-design concept-design ideation, selection-design development, implementation-critical evaluation and solutions. Fourth, collaborative projects or integrated courses with related Liberal Arts or other art and design majors should lead to muliti-discilplinary education. Fifth, the chance of increased active industry-academy collaboration and actual employment or enterprise can be facilitated by the establishment of only the courses related to domestic or international internships during the $2^{nd}$ semester of the $4^{th}$ year.

  • This study aims to suggest better future-oriented improvements by considering the traits and changes of the curriculum of the courses related to the field of fashion. To get the best results from the study, out of all the fashion-related majors (courses) from 4-year based universities in Korea, 65 was selected and divided into 24 courses in the category of clothing & textiles, 34 courses in the category of fashion design and 7 courses in the category of fashion industry in 7 universities, and their education goals and contents of the curriculum posted on the internet homepage of each university were analyzed. The results of the study are as follows: Firstly, with the result from analyzing what the core terms have in common, which are used to express the educational purposes of fashion-related courses in Korea, the ideal type of talents that most of the fashion-related courses tend to pursue can be said to be those who are equipped with a sense of future-oriented creative direction and international communication capability, based on a multidisciplinary general capability, a professional executive ability, an information-analytic ability and an ability of planning, as well as in possession of a sense of beauty, creativity and a scientific mind. Secondly, with the traits of the curriculum of courses in each category, it was found that the category of clothing & textiles courses belongs to colleges of human ecology the most, and in terms of major subjects, the relative importance of clothing science seemed high compared to other school categories while the category of fashion design courses belongs to colleges of art, modeling or design the most, and in terms of major subjects, the scope of dress design appeared the widest, and finally the category of fashion industry courses belongs to colleges of natural science the most, and the relative importance of marketing seemed quite high. Moreover, with the result mentioned earlier, It was found that the names of departments and majors of fashion-related courses are differentiated, depending on what kind of college they belong to, and their curriculum have been differentiated to some degree accordingly. Thirdly, as shown above, Korean universities have attempted to make a lot of changes in the curriculum of fashion-related courses according to changes of the age, compared to what they did in the past, but they have still seemed to lack many things for the cultivation of talents fit for their educational purposes. Through the result from investigating both the changes of the current age and the directions in developing the curriculum, the study came to conclusion that each university in Korea should develop the major curriculum of fashion-related courses that are more sophisticated and intensive fit for the its department name and educational purposes.

The second is to develop necessary methods in which ordinary people can collect necessary information about family life. Related questionnaire was distributed to 147 the human ecology majors, and analysis was performed on the several web sites providing with information related to family life. Web sites such as“www.yahoo.com”and“www.naver.com”were included in the analysis. Questionnaire consisted of questions about whether the students majoring in the human ecology were familiar with the information-related terms or futuristics-related books, and whether they have ever taken the related courses in college. The results of analysis are as follows: First, analysis shows that the present level of the human ecology majors' information orientation and networking experiences is extremely low. Secondly, according to the analysis on whether they have optimistic or pessimistic attitude toward the contemporay informatized society, the human ecology majors have rather optimistic attitude in group while having pessimistic one individually. As to their response to the question about whether informatized society is connected with industrial society or not, the human ecology majors are divided in neatly equal ratio. Thirdly, analysis of the human ecology majors' understanding of profession relevant to their major indicates that they have high level of perception and information about the professions of fashion designing, traditional garment designing, nutrition counselling or consumer counselling. On the other hand, they are not familiar with the information about professions such as professional QR Programming, eating habit-related information business and family welfare. Lastly, level of web sites supplying information about family life is fragmentary. Especially, probe into the directories providing with necessary information of family life subdivided into special areal of life shows that they lack systematic organization making more convenient consumer use.

  • This study investigated students' perception of a starting up business in the fashion design related departments of two year colleges to present the basic data for designing a start up business education and examined the opening status of the start up business subjects. Only 4.4% of respondents answered that they had an experience in a start up. And 76.2% of respondents answered that they would like to start up a business after graduation. The initial start up types were "online shopping mall" and "blog market" in that order. Nearly 86.7% of respondents answered that they needed "start up" education in college. To the question of whether they would participate if there is a start up extracurricular program, and the subject they would choose, 40.9% answered "I want to get a start up related certification", showing the highest rate of interest in the course. The status of introducing start up business subjects in the regular courses in fashion design related departments in 25 two year colleges related that there were 11 start up related courses begun in the last semester, that is, the 2nd semester of the 2nd year. Since the proportion of clothing in online shopping malls is high, start up education based on the demands of students in fashion design majors can be used as another employment exit strategy.
