  • This study is to investigate the relationships between heel height and macro-economic factors - recession and unemployment; and to analyze the time lags reflecting economic factors on heel height index using U.S. data. The life-history evolution theory was applied to propose the relationships studied. The data for the heel height measurements of women's shoes - pump style only - were obtained from US Vogue fashion editorial sections on spring and fall editions from 1950 to 2014. I divided the heel height by the length of the shoes in order to standardize the data. Total of 1581 samples were used, and heel height data were aggregated to create a yearly average. To explore the relationships between macro-economic factors and heel height, this study used OLS of Stata 13 program. The main findings show that unemployment rates influenced heel height for three years in a positive direction. Furthermore, the effects of unemployment rate from two years ago on the current heel height were very close to being on a significant level.

A questionnaire was prepared in the survey and a total of 456 adult women were selected by way of stratified random sampling. The research findings are as follows. The sociocultural attitudes toward appearance were shown in two factors of 'internalization' and 'recognition' The body image was shown in three dimensions of 'care for appearance,' 'concern about weight,' and 'appearance attractiveness'. Internalization, recognition, and BMI affected care for appearance. Concern about weight was affected by internalization, and BMI. Appearance attractiveness was affected only by BMI. Most people were not satisfied with their weight and overall body shape in spite that they in fact had normal or lean figures except 3.3% of the total samples. From the above research findings, adult women's satisfaction with their body was shown high when they were subjectively satisfied with their appearance attractiveness. And the results indicate that adult women are under pressure of socioculturally distorted image of beauty.

The objectives of this study were to identify the brand personality dimensions of a casual brand, "BeanPole," and to investigate the effects of the brand personality on BeanPole buyers' brand preference, satisfaction and loyalty. The data were collected via a web survey. The sample consists of 500 people between the ages of 18-45 who are familiar with Bean Pole casual clothing brand (male- 40%; female-60%). Sixty-six percent of the sample indicated that they had purchased the Bean Pole clothing during the last three years. A total of five factors were extracted from the brand personality index scale: They were excitement/sophistication, competence, sincerity, ruggedness, and smoothness. Compared to the B/P non-buyers, B/P buyers tended to rate excitement/sophistication, competence, sincerity, and the smoothness brand personality dimensions higher. Multiple regression analysis revealed that excitement/sophistication, competence, sincerity and ruggedness brand personality were significant predictors of respondents' casual clothing brand preference, satisfaction, and brand loyalty. Among these significant predictors, competence was the best predictor of casual clothing brand preference, satisfaction and brand loyalty. Based on these findings, strategic implications are discussed.

  • The glitter of lame fabrics containing the metallic yarns may further be altered by $Na_2CO_3$ aqueous solution at an elevated temperature. In this study, the effect of the corrosion treatment on the yarn luster was evaluated using image analysis. The alkaline solution treatment was found to be more effective on the aluminum-based specimens than on the silver-based specimens. It was found that corrosion percentage measurement based on the transmission analysis may provide reasonable quantitative index, even if the measurement relies on an indirect method. Based on the quantitative results, the alkaline treatment condition for the specific specimen would be optimized for a desired glitter modification.

  • This study uses a macro-viewpoint to investigate how female world leaders' clothing behaviors are different by nation and culture. This study conducted a comparative study on clothing behavior by cultural block in order to understand similarities and differences based on Hofstede's cultural dimensions theory. The findings are as follows. First, the clothing styles of female world leaders are categorized into classical suit style, national traditional style, and eclectic style. Second, classic suit style is more often found in countries characterized by high individualism, low power distance index, and low avoidance index. The style represents individual activity and rationality as well as trust towards women acting in men's roles. Third, a national traditional style is found in countries featuring high collectivism, high power distance index, and high uncertainty avoidance index. These countries share a culture that emphasizes harmony with the whole, rather than any one given part; consequently, clothing style represents a national identity (or the roles as a national member) rather than that of the individual level. Fourth, an eclectic clothing style is expressed in a mixture of classical suits and a national traditional style that depends on how much Eastern and Western cultures are reasonably compromised or Eastern tradition and Western culture coexist.

  • The purposes of this study are to verify the sales promotion effect of bargain sale of department store, and to investigate the relationship between the effect of bargain sale and the consumer attitude toward economics. For those purposes, secondary data was collected. The data was composed of monthly sales data of women's casual wear, men's suit, inner wear, infant's wear, and golf wear in a department store from 1996 to 2003. The data on consumer attitude toward economics was collected from 'Consumer Attitude Index' issued by SERI. The results are as follows. First, there were differences in the sales promotion effects of bargain sale by merchandise class and by year. Men's suit was the class that the effect was highest, and inner wear was the class the effect was lowest. In addition, the effects were simultaneously lowered by year. Second, sales promotion effect of bargain sale had relationship with consumer attitude index. The yearly transitions of the two data were almost similar. This means that as the consumer attitude becomes pessimistic, the motivation to consume also becomes lower, so that sales promotion effect of bargain sale also decreases. In addition, women's wear and men's suit showed the most similar transition patterns with the consumer attitude index.
