  • The rising demand for fashion do-it-yourself (DIY) products that cater to individual preferences and which allow for creative expression has highlighted the need for systematic organization within the clothing society. This study addresses this gap by identifying and discussing clothing DIY packages and proposes a systematic package model comprising essential raw materials, commercial patterns, and production instructions. Four key elements have been emphasized to differentiate and enhance the product. Firstly, highly practical commercial patterns have been developed to facilitate easy transformations - from blouses to dresses. Furthermore, the versatility of these patterns has been optimized so as to allow their utilization as outerwear, increasing their efficiency. Secondly, to accommodate diverse body shapes, the package offers six different sizes, providing users with a range of options tailored to their specific measurements. Thirdly, detailed production instructions are provided, supplemented by a Q&A bulletin board. The instructions are available in a printed format, featuring actual photographs on A4 paper, while video production instructions are accessible via a QR code, ensuring comprehensive guidance. Lastly, the basic package comprises clothing patterns, production instructions, fabrics, and labels, providing a complete toolkit for clothing DIY enthusiasts. This study aims to contribute to the development of the hobby sewing field and to establish a practical resource for the clothing DIY package industry.

The following are the findings of this study's data collection on DIY clothing. The total number of keywords collected over a period of ten years on search engines "Naver" and "Google" between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2022 was 16,315, and data trends by period indicate a continuous upward trend. In addition, a keyword analysis was conducted to analyze TF-IDF (Term Frequency-Inverse Document Frequency), a statistical measure that reflects the importance of a word within data, and the relationship with N-gram, an analysis of the correlation concerning the relationship between words. Using these results, it was possible to evaluate the popularity and growing tendency of DIY clothing products in conjunction with the evolving social environment, as well as the desire to explore DIY trends among consumers. • Recent increase of eco-conscious trends and pleasure from Do It Yourself (DIY) activities have led to a surge in sales of package products bundling together clothing patterns and raw materials. However, a well-structured market system is yet to be established. We surveyed 460 women with sewing as a hobby who had purchased these DIY clothing pattern packages. The survey revealed that majority of respondents had their hobby for over five years. Choosing the right fabric to match clothing patterns presented a common challenge. Most participants owned a sewing machine and an overlocker, with price being the primary concern when purchasing a package. For guidance during the sewing process, participants preferred print materials featuring real-life images. Those with less sewing experience leaned towards video tutorials. Items of interest or those commonly created included blouses, shirts, and dresses. Desire for further learning in sewing and pattern-making was prominent, with a clear preference for online classes. Several strategies are recommended to enhance the appeal of DIY clothing package products, including broadening range of packages that incorporate fabric, offering supplementary educational resources to improve users' skills, implementing affordable pricing structures, supplying comprehensive creation guidelines, and making available design modification guides. These considerations could significantly boost customer satisfaction. This research intends to lay groundwork for understanding DIY clothing creation market, ultimately fostering production of highly desirable products. Insights of this study will prove instrumental in refining product development and devising effective marketing tactics, leading to a more rewarding consumer experience.

The research method was a combined literature review and a case study. As a result of the research, we have derived the creations of interactive fashion design from the viewpoint can be categorized as 'play as creativity', 'mimesis', and 'deviance'. First, creativity can be seen in DIY products, customized products, and clothing that reflects the consumer's way of wearing. By actively intervening in the products and expressing their creativity in the product, it can be considered as a DIY creation. Second, mimesis in the creation of a fashion design that occurs when consumers imitate the designs of the famous fashion designers. Often similarity and difference are generated, while sometimes objects are newly constructed. Third, deviance means that an item is reborn with a completely different intention from the original shape and function by the intervention of the 'hacker' consumer. For example, the logo and the design of a luxury brand are transformed to satirize its legitimacy. In this paper, we analyzed the cases of fashion design creation as an interactive play and investigated their characteristics and tendencies.

  • Under the paradigm of 'Eco', the core of sustainability management, this study aims to establish both domestic and international markets and secure competitiveness in the global markets through the development of children's furniture composed of recycled and unharmful materials. Currently, in Europe and in the Western regions, the concepts of 'eco-friendly', 'children', and 'DIY' are well-placed in the daily lives of the people. On the other hand, compared to the domestic demand for eco-friendly children's furniture, the essential approach and the qualitative improvements about the subject are being slowly progressed. Particularly, the process of applying eco-friendly materials and finishing materials to the children's furnitures are mostly in a non-existent state. Thus, in this study, simple application of basic eco-friendly materials such as natural woods or imitation of overseas furniture designs were avoided to create transformable eco-friendly one-touch DIY children's furniture for children's growth and development through the application of eco-friendly processes of technology, design, and other stages of the development process. In other words, under the big category of eco-friendly children's furniture, the furniture was developed through an environmentally-friendly process of universal design that is suitable for children of all ages, and thus, ultimately maximizing the economical effective value and reducing consumption of resources and environmental pollutions.
