The effect of swirl flow on NOx in a nonpremixed turbulent hydrogen jet with coaxial air was studied. The swirl vane angle was varied from $30^{\circ}$ to $90^{\circ}$. The fuel jet air velocity and coaxial air velocity were varied in an attached flame region as $u_F=85{\sim}160m/s$ and $u_A=7{\sim}14m/s$. The objective of the current study was to analyze the characteristics of nitrous oxide emission in a swirl flow and to propose a new parameter for EINOx scaling. The experimental results show that EINOx decreases with the swirl vane angle and increased with flame length. Further, EINOx scaling factors can be determined by considering the effective diameter ($d_{F,eff}$) in a far field concept. The EINOx increased in proportion to the flame residence time (${\sim}{\tau_R}^{1/2.8}$) and the global strain rate (${\sim}{S_G}^{1/2.8}$).

The incidence angle of seismic excitation relative to the two orthogonal major axes of structures has been a subject of considerable research interest. Previous studies have primarily focused on single-storey symmetric and asymmetric structures, suggesting a minimal effect of incidence angle on structural behavior. This research extends the investigation to multi-storey structures, including vertically irregular configurations, using a comprehensive set of 20 near fault and 20 far field seismic excitation. The study employs nonlinear time-history analysis with a bidirectional hysteresis model to capture inelastic deformations accurately. Various structural models, including one-storey and two- storey regular structures (R1, R2) and vertically irregular structures with setbacks in one direction (IR1) and both directions (IR2), are analysed. The analysis reveals that the incidence angle has no discernible impact over the response of regular multi-storey structures. However, vertically irregular structures exhibit notable responses at corner columns, which decrease towards central columns, irrespective of the incidence angle. This response is attributed to the inherent mass distribution and stiffness irregularities rather than the angle of seismic excitation. The findings indicate that for both near fault and far field seismic excitation, the incidence angle's impact remains marginal even for complex structural configurations. Consequently, the study suggests that the angle of incidence of seismic excitation need not be a primary consideration in the seismic design of both regular and vertically irregular structures. These conclusions are robust across various structural models and seismic excitation characteristics, providing a comprehensive understanding the impact of incidence angle on seismic response.
BACKGROUND: As improved LEDs (Light Emitting Diode) industry and decreased the price of LEDs in Korea, some farmers try to using the RED LEDs in green house and open field to increase the production of crop under bad weather condition. The aim of this study is to find out the effect of RED and FAR-RED LEDs lighting on the fruit quality of twelve-year old 'Hongro'/M.26 apple during night after sunset. METHODS AND RESULTS: FAR-RED (730nm, 2 and 4 hour) and RED (620nm, 2 and 4 hour) with 20 LED/PCB were treated in orchard for 16 weeks from June 10 to October 10 in 2009 and 2010 with control as an comparison. In our experiments, leaf weight was significantly higher in RED LEDs than control, tended to be decreased as times of FAR-RED lighting increased. Fruit weight was increased more in RED LEDs than control in 2009 and 2010, but decreased in FAR-RED lighting compared to control in 2010. Firmness and Hunter's a value of fruit were increased in FAR-RED lighting with 2 and 4 h than control. Soluble solid contents were higher in 2 h RED and 2, 4 h FAR-RED LEDs compared to control in 2009, there was no significant difference in 2010. Acid contents were no difference among the treatments. CONCLUSION(S): In our results, we found that RED LEDs was more helpful to increase the fruit weight and FAR-RED LEDs promote to be higher hunter a value of fruit skin. So, we thought that it is necessary to more study if mixed of RED and FAR-RED lighting is more helpful to promote fruit quality of 'Hongro' apple than single lighting of RED or FAR-RED LEDs respectively.
Purpose: This research is to investigate the effect of the franchisee's basic psychological needs satisfaction on its business performance. Moreover, within the relationship between the franchisee's basic psychological needs satisfaction and its performance, the current study examined the mediating effect of work engagement and the moderating effect of the franchisor's support. Research design, data and methodology: 367 survey data were collected and analyzed using SPSS 22 and AMOS 22. For the assessment of goodness of fit of the models, fit indexes such as TLI, CFI, RMSEA were employed. Results: The results of the study are as follows: first, the franchisee's basic psychological needs satisfaction is positively related to performance; second, the franchisee's basic psychological needs satisfaction is positively related to work engagement; third, the franchisee's work engagement is positively related to performance; fourth, it is uncovered that the franchisee's work engagement mediates the relationship between basic psychological needs satisfaction and business performance; fifth, the moderating effect of the franchisor's support was insignificant. Conclusion: This study would like to contribute to the field of franchise performance, by re-assessing the significance of the individual's characteristics (of the franchisee) which has been ignored thus far. Furthermore, the limitations of the study and future research directions were discussed.

The buoyancy and initial momentum fluxes make near-field dominated by buoyant jet when thermal discharge releases underwater. In order to estimate prediction capabilities of those near-field phenomena, non-hydrostatic RANS applied CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamic) model was used. Condition of model was composed based on past laboratory experiments. Numerical simulations carried out for the horizontal buoyant jet in the stagnant flow and vertical buoyant jet into crossflow. The results of simulation are compared with the terms of trajectory and dilution rate of laboratory experiments and analytic model(CorJET) results. CFD model showed a good agreement with them. CFD model can be appropriate for assessment of submerged thermal discharge effect because CFD model can resolve the limitations of near-field analytic model and far-field quasi 3D hydrodynamic model. The accuracy and capability of the CFD model is reviewed in this study. If the computational efficiency get improved, CFD model can be widely applied for simulation of transport and diffusion of submerged thermal discharge.

The control of magnetization by an electric field at room temperature remains as one of great challenges in materials science. Multiferroics, in which magnetism and ferroelectricity coexist and couple to each other, could be the most plausible candidate to realize this long-sought capability. While recent intensive research on the multiferroics has made significant progress in sensitive, magnetic control of electric polarization, the electrical control of magnetization, the converse effect, has been observed only in a limited range far below room temperature. Here we demonstrate at room temperature the control of both electric polarization by a magnetic field and magnetization by an electric field in a multiferroic hexaferrite. The electric polarization rapidly increases in a magnetic field as low as 5 mT and the magnetoelectric susceptibility reaches up to 3200 ps/m, the highest value in single phase materials. The magnetization is also modulated up to 0.34 mB per formula unit in an electric field of 1.14 MV/m. Furthermore, this compound allows nonvolatile, magnetoelectric reading- and writing-operations entirely at room temperature. Four different magnetic/electric field writing conditions generate repeatable, distinct M versus E curves without dissipation, offering an unprecedented opportunity for a multi-bit memory or a spintronic device applications.
The study involved determination of resistance levels of spider mites ta argano-phosphates using topical application and slide dip techniques; laboratory serening tests of alternative acaricides using an O/P resistant strain and a field trial of the screened materials. 1. Strains of Tetranychus were from Timaru(TR), Havelock Narth (HNR), Lincaln (LN). Germany (GR, GN). Comparisons of the resistant strains and normal strains at the LD50 and LC50 levels were as follows : (a) Using the topical application tochnique; with Parathian. resistant levels of the GR. TR and HNR strains of T. urticae were respeativuly, 1035. 484 and 452 times as resistant' as the LN strain. (b) Using the slide dip technique; with Phosdrin, resistant of GR, TR and HNR strains of T. urticae were 635, 274 and 266 times greater respeativuly, than the GN strain. 2. The laboratory sereaning tests were carried out far their contact plus stomach and residual effect to assess the toxicities of eleven alternative materials which would be used far control of O/P resistant strain of T. urticae. The acaricide groups represented were 3 organo-chlorines (Spidex, Kelthane and C 8514), 2 nitrophenyls (UC 19786 and Morocide), 2 cyclic carbonates(Eradex and Morestan). I carbamate (UC2004 7A), 1 mixture of carbamate and orano-chlorine and 2 other chemicals (C 8677 and M2527). From all acaricide tested. Kelthane and Morocide were the most effective, folowed by Spidex and M2527. Morestan, C8514. C8677 and RS 143 were intermediate, but Eradex, UC 19786 and UC 20046A were poor. 3, The number of sapmles required for estimation of the population in the field evaluation of acaricidal effects was one giving the highest practical precision. It was decided, after preliminary sampling trials. to use samples of 30 leaves per replicate which gave a $5.7\%$ standard error. 4. In the field trials, Morocide applied at the $0.05\%\;and\; 0.04\%$ a. i. conc. to black currant trees gave excellent control of O/P resistant population of T. urticae for about 12 days, but Morocide 0.025 and Kel thane $0.02\%$ a. i. cone. gave efficient control for about 6 days. In other words. first applications of Kel thane ane Moroeide gave very high degrees of control of O/P resistant population of the two-spotted spider mite. However, the results indicate that secondary application would sometimes be necessary. There was no foliage damage of black Currants and strawberries by either acaricides at the concentrations used. The magnitudes of historical earthquake records related with house collapses are estimated considering the magnitude, epicentral distance, soil condition and aging of a house. Eighteen artificial time histories for magnitudes 6-8, epicentral distances 5 km-350 km and hard and soft soil condition were generated. Nonlinear dynamic analyses were performed for a traditional three-bay-straw-roof house. The aging effect of the house was modeled as such that the lateral loading capacity of wooden frames represented by hysteretic stiffness was decreased linearly with time. The house was idealized by one degree-of-freedom lumped mass model and the nonlinear characteristics of wooden frames were modeled by the Modified Double-Target mode. For far field earthquakes, minor damages were identified regardless of magnitude, soil condition and aging of the house. For intermediate field earthquake, earthquake magnitude greater than 6.5 caused severe damages in soil sites. For near field earthquake, severe damages occurred for magnitude greater than 6.5 regardless of soil condition and aging of the house. It is estimated that the magnitude of historical earthquakes is about 6.2. An empirical equation of magnitude-intensity relationship suitable to Korea is suggested.
This study attempts to show how the geomagnetic indices, AU, AL and Dst, respond to the interplanetary parameters, more specifically, the solar wind electric field VBz during southward interplanetary magnetic field (IMF) period. The AU index does not seem to respond linearly to the variation of southward IMF. Only a noticeable correlation between the AU and VBz is shown during summer, when the ionospheric conductivity associated with the solar EUV radiation is high. It is highly likely that the effect of electric field on the eastward electrojet intensification is only noticeable whenever the ionospheric conductivity is significantly enhanced during summer. Thus, one should be very cautious in employing the AU as a convection index during other seasons. The AL index shows a significantly high correlation with VBz regardless of season. Considering that the auroral electrojet is the combined result of electric field and ionospheric conductivity, the intensification of these two quantities seems to occur concurrently during southward IMF period. This suggests that the AL index behaves more like a convection index rather than a substorm index as far as hourly mean AL index is concerned. Contrary to the AU index, the AL index does not register the maximum value during summer for a given level of VBz. It has something to do with the findings that discrete auroras are suppressed in sunlight hemisphere (Newell et al. 1996), thus reducing the ionospheric conductivity during summer. As expected, the Dst index tends to become more negative as VBz gets intensified. However, the Dst index (nT) is less than or equal to 15VBz(mV/m) + 50(Bz < 0). It indicates that VBz determines the lower limit of the storm size, while another factor(s), possibly substorm, seems to get further involved in intensifying storms. Although it has not been examined in this study, the duration of southward IMF would also be a factor to be considered in determining the size of a storm.

The noise reducing devices installed on the noise barrier have been developed in many shapes and ways to reduce noise around road traffic areas. In this study, test and estimation method for the noise reducing device witch installed on the top of a noise barrier was suggested. For this, the authors have considered sound power flow around the device and sound pressure levels for the far field area. To estimate the area effect behind the barrier, area average of noise pressure level difference divided by two area, upper and bellow the sight-line. Comparing the attenuation difference of these areas, the tendency of noise reduction effect was studied according to type of noise reducing devices. Compared with noise shielding efficiency of the devices that using equivalent height of a simple barrier calculated by the SoundPlan, the commercial environment noise simulation software.
