  • Temperature field and cooling rate are important parameters to influence the properties of clad layer and the heat affected zone. In this paper the temperature field and cooling rate of laser cladding are studied by a two-dimensional time-dependent finite element model. Experiment has been carried out by Nd:YAG laser cladding with wire feeding. Research results indicate that at the beginning of cladding, the width and depth of melt pool increase with cladding time. The cooling rate is related to position, cladding time, cladding speed, and preheating temperature. The temperature near melt pool changes rapidly while the temperature far from melt pool changes slowly. With the increase of cladding time, cooling rate decreases. The further the distance from the melt pool, the lower the temperature and the slower the cooling rate. The faster the cladding speed, the faster the cooling rate. The higher the preheating temperature, the slower the cooling rate. The FEM results coincide well with the experiment results.

  • Non-singular boundary element method (BEM) codes are developed in acoustics application. The BEM code is then used to calculate unknown boundary surface normal displacements and surface pressures from known exterior near Held pressures. And then the calculated surface normal displacements and surface pressures are again applied to the BEM in forward in order to calculate reconstructed field pressures. The initial exterior near field pressures are very well agreed with the later reconstructed field pressures. Only the same number of boundary surface nodes (1178) are used far the initial exterior pressures which are initially calculated by Finite Element Method (FEM) and BEM. Pseudo-inverse technique is used for the calculation of the unknown boundary surface normal displacements. The structural object is a tuning fork with 128.4 Hz resonant. The boundary element is a quadratic hexahedral element (eight nodes per element).

  • Recently many developed countries have used satellite images for classifying cropland areas to reduce time and efforts put into field survey. Korea also has used satellite images for the same purpose since KOMPSAT-2 was successfully launched and operated in 2006, but still far way to go in order to achieve the required accuracy from the products. This study evaluated the accuracy of the calculated croplands by using the objected classification method with various satellite images including ASTER, Spot-5, Rapid eye, Quickbird-2, Geo eye-1. Also, their usability and effectiveness for the cropland survey were verified by comparing with field survey data. As results. Geo eye-1 and Rapid eye showed higher accuracy to calculate the paddy field areas while Geo eye-1 and Quickbird-2 showed higher accuracy to calculate the upland field areas.

  • A novel CPFDTD algorithm for modeling the smooth curved surfaces is presented. This scheme subdivides electric fields on the distorted grid into the extended contour field, the non-distorted field, and the quasi-available field to avoid the collinear borrowing approximation. Several preceding methods are applied to the I-plane sectoral horn antenna to get far-field patterns. The accuracy of the presented method is demonstrated by comparison with measured values.

  • There are many difficulties to get the scattered field generated by obstacle which has arbitrary shape or irregular surface impedance by using analytic solution or numerical methods. In this study, we propose a method of which makes acoustic scattering holography that can predict the far-field scattered field based on nearfield measurements. This method provides the scattered fields of each wave-number components of incident fields. We express the relationship of wave-number components between incident fields and scattered fields using scattering matrix which is transfer matrix of wave-number components. Lastly, we prove the relation between wave-number components of incident and scattered field by experiments. The errors which are caused by measurements and decomposition methods are also analyzed.

  • In this study the sound field on the surface of the top edge of noise barriers is actively minimized to enhance the shielding effect without increasing the hight of the barrier. First the results of a numerical study are shown; the sound field reduction in the far field due to a cylindrical active headpiece attached to a semi-infinite screen and the related control parameters are investigated. The results of a model experiment in an anechoic chamber and optimal control parameters for noise control on the railway side are shown and discussed.

  • So far a single-axis controlled repulsive type magnetic bearing system have been designed and fabricated in our laboratory employing the repulsive forces operating between the stator and rotor permanent magnet for levitation. The radial axis is uncontrolled passive one. The higher speed of operation is limited due to the vibration along the uncontrolled axis and the increase of control current due to eddy current interference. This paper will discuss a detailed modeling of the repulsive type magnetic bearing system for five axis control including the eddy current effect and the method of reduction of eddy current effect. Simulation results using Matlab will be presented.

  • The reliable estimation of the system parameters and the accurate prediction of the system behavior are important to design underground structures safely and economically. Especially, the elastic modulus and the in-situ stresses are very important parameters in predicting the behavior of the underground structure. Therefore, the back analysis using the field measurement data is developed to determine accurately the elastic modulus and the in-situ stresses of the underground structural system in this study. A back analysis using the combined finite and boundary element is developed. It can consider the far field boundary condition and is efficient in computation. In this study, a back analysis is performed to predict behaviors of underground structures for the real construction site. The comparison between the results of the back analysis with field measurement data and the obtained material properties from the field test shows good agreement for the real construction site.

  • The improvement of a near-field measurement for an antenna is investigated. We propose the formula of a circular cylindrical scanning based on the Cartesian coordinate. Proposed algorithm for the circular cylindrical Scanning is compared with the exact solution for a Hertzian dipole antenna, thus confirming that our approach is useful for most practice measurements.
