  • Historical origins of both personal names and place names in Korea are reviewed. It is shown that names of native origin have been largely replaced by those of Sino-Korean names. Some statistics are given on the basis of the 2000 census data in South Korea. A unique method of naming personal names which contain a generation marker called hangnyol is reviewed. This enables the person to figure out one's position and others in the family tree up to as many as ten generations without going consulting the book of genealogy. While this practice had a role to play in a vertically structured society where seniority is important, it is less practiced as the society is becoming more egalitarian, so that native names, not writable in Chinese characters, are on the rise. In this global age, a person is not just a member of his family or clan, s/he is also a member of the international community. The author proposes several things that should be considered in naming to fit the modern global age: euphony of names, ambiguity, possible bad connotations when Romanized, unintended homophones with comic meanings, etc.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of family-of-origin, personal and spousal characteristics, mediated by communication and problem-solving behavior, on marital quality and stability. On the basis of previous literature, the theoretical model was specified, estimated, and evaluated for adequacy of statistical fit for samples of 214 married women. Although the initial model was not supported by data, the revised model fitted the data adequately. Results of structural equation modeling indicated family-of-origin and communication behavior directly affected marital quality. However, the personal and spousal characteristics were linked with marital quality and stability only if they were mediated by communication and problemsolving behavior. Communication behavior was strongly related to marital quality and stability both directly and indirectly through problem-solving behavior. The model also showed marital quality can be an antecedent variable for marital stability. The findings of results is to generate more broad-minded thinking about how communication behavior, marital quality, and marital stability are interrelated.

In the hanok, people want to be live not only in human environment and traditional culture, but also modem urban housing as a high density. This article deals as follows: First, Hanok as urban housing would be composed in a housing lot, linear type layout, devide building, and cluster type. Second, Housing unit and configuration of Multi family housing can be used single story, second story, second story + single story, multi story and Hanok roofing. Thirds, structure of the building are traditional wooden, combined one of steel and wood or concrete and wood, and the building system in exterior and interior can be seperated into another system. Forth, Image of multi story Hanok A last, consistency of Hanok is not a repeat of an origin but application and creative aptitude of the origin, and multi family housing application of Hanok can be a trial creative.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to analyze the origin of Meretrix. Method : Bibliographies about Meretrix were examined focusing on the origin. Based on this analysis, the list and characteristics of the origin-mineral were presented. Results : Based on the Meretrix, the Korean and foreign literature were investigated to make a list, and the process of changing the origin was organized in chronological order. Based on these results, the shape of the currently cultivated or distributed drugs, the status of the distributed drugs and the status of the distributed products were summarized. In addition, the results of summarizing the adverse effects and sensitivities of the efficacy and prestige are as follows: 1. The origin of the Meretrix corresponded to the fall of the mollusks Merethrix metrix L. and Cyclina sinensis Gmelin, which are mollusks belonging to the reference family Veneridae. Their Herbal name is CONCHA CYCLINAE SEU MERETRICIS and they have therapeutic effects on cough, asthma, thirsty and chest heavies. 2. Munhap (文蛤) is a different name of GALLA CHINENSIS. It has therapeutic effects on various skin diseases. Conclusions : The Meretrix means two herbs. The first one is CONCHA CYCLINAE SEU MERETRICIS, the other is GALLA CHINENSIS. They should be used separately according to their clinical use.

  • We will construct polynomials of degree 6 in z and $\bar{z}$ on $C^2$ which gives, via its coefficient $\beta$ as a parameter, a family of pseudoconvex domains $\Omega_\beta$ in $C^2$ with the origin being a boundary point, and show that the domains $\Omega_\beta$ has no peak functions of class $c^1$ at the origin and has no holomorphic support functions for $1 \leq \beta < \frac{9}{5}$.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the abuse experience from husbands among women who killed their husbands and the husbands' characteristics, and the women's own characteristics consisting of the emotional climate in the family of origin, self-esteem and social support. The major findings were as follow. First, the subjects were divided into two groups according to the level of wife abuse experience: non-abuse group and abuse group. Second, in terms of the husbands' characteristics which consisted of economic capacity and alcohol problem, there were statistically significant group differences between non-abuse and abuse groups. Third, the women in the abuse group, compared to those in the non-abuse group, had a tendency to perceive that they received maltreatment, physical punishment, and indifference and rejection from their family of origin. However, there was no significant difference between the non-abuse and abuse groups in emotional support the women received from their family. Fourth, as for the women's characteristics consisting of self-esteem and social support, the women of both groups showed no significant difference in self-esteem, while the women in the abuse group perceived that they received a level of social support relatively lower than those in the non-abuse group.

  • The aim of this study was to report on the improvement of shoulder pain resulting from disorders of the rotator cuff such as impingement syndrome and adhesive capsulitis, by manual acupuncture (MA) and pharmacopuncture (PA) following origin/insertion technique (OIT) of applied kinesiology (AK). Two patients were treated with MA and PA after OIT on shoulder muscles. The Numerical Rating Scale and the assessment of the Japanese Orthopedic Association scores were used to assess the pain, and ultrasound images were taken to compare treatment outcome. This study showed that MA and PA following OIT may be an effective treatment for impingement syndrome and adhesive capsulitis.

  • Four kinds of Bupleuri Radix, namely 'Dang shiho', 'Won shiho', 'Shik shiho' and 'Jook shiho', are currently used in the market of Korea. It is thought that 'Dang shiho' is the root of Bupleurum falcatum and B. scorzoneraefolium. It was also reported that 'Won shiho' and 'Shik shiho' are the root of B. falcatum. Since 'Jook shiho' which is widely used in the market and even exported, has not been clarified as to the origin of the plant and the chemical components, the author obtained some results by this study, the summaries of which are as following: 1. The results of microscopical examination of 'Jook shiho' and 'Kae shiho' were entirely identical and the TLC patterns were coincided as well. It was therefore definitely clarified that the origin of 'Jook shiho' is Bupleurum longe-radiatum. 2. The TLC patterns of 'Won shiho', 'Jook shiho' and 'Kae shiho' which are belonging to the same family and the same genus, appeared identical, and reveal the similarity of the chemical constituents and thereby strongly support the fact that 'Jook shiho' can be used for the same purpose as 'Won shiho'.

  • The Chinese crude drug, 'Man Sam(蔓蔘)', which is derived from the root of Codonopsis plants of the family Campanulaceae, has been used as a tonic. In China, the same crude drug derived from Codonopsis plants, called 'Dang Same(?蔘)', has been used as remedies for anorexia, fatigue, cough, etc. Although Codonopsis roots have been widely used for medicinal purposes in Korea, the botanical origin of the crude drug has never been studied pharmcognostically. To clarify the botanical origin of 'Man Sam', the root morphology and anatomy were examined for the Korean species of Codonopsis species, such as C. lanceolata (Sieb. et Zucc.) Trautv., C. pilosula (Franch.) Nannf. and C. ussuriensis (Rupr. et Maxim.) Hemsl. The study shows that 'Man Sam' is the root of Codonopsis pilosula.
