Mechanical parts are often grouped into part families based on the similarity of their shapes, to support efficient manufacturing process planning and design modification. The 2-part sequence papers present similarity assessment techniques to support part family classification for machined parts. These exploit the multiple feature decompositions obtained by the feature recognition method using convex decomposition. Convex decomposition provides a hierarchical volumetric representation of a part, organized in an outside-in hierarchy. It provides local accessibility directions, which supports abstract and qualitative similarity assessment. It is converted to a Form Feature Decomposition (FFD), which represents a part using form features intrinsic to the shape of the part. This supports abstract and qualitative similarity assessment using positive feature volumes. FFD is converted to Negative Feature Decomposition (NFD), which represents a part as a base component and negative machining features. This supports a detailed, quantitative similarity assessment technique that measures the similarity between machined parts and associated machining processes implied by two parts' NFDs. Features of the NFD are organized into branch groups to capture the NFD hierarchy and feature interrelations. Branch groups of two parts' NFDs are matched to obtain pairs, and then features within each pair of branch groups are compared, exploiting feature type, size, machining direction, and other information relevant to machining processes. This paper, the first one of the two companion papers, describes the similarity assessment methods using convex decomposition and FFD.

Various family-friendly policies have been put into place for working mothers, but their paid and household workloads have not decreased. Many women have experienced career interruptions due to care work, so possible solutions to the problem of care work are needed. The purpose of this study was to explore the possibility of applying the social enterprise model to care work. Definitions, types, and development processes in social enterprise in several nations were discussed for the purpose of this study. Second, problems of care work in Korean households and national support for them are surveyed. Public institutions' contributions in child-care and family elder care and the alternatives for solving problems thereof were discussed. Third, several principles and advantages of applying social enterprise models to care work were suggested. Finally, this study discussed what a healthy family support center can do to reduce the workload of a household through social enterprises. This center can be a testing place that supports care work by various means from small volunteering groups to social enterprise according to profit level.
The purpose of this study was to provide the basic data needed for developing comprehensive child edu-care programs that fits the regional needs. Subjects of the survey were the teachers of child edu-care centers in Daejeon. 95 teachers were selected from 20 child edu-care centers, using stratified random sampling method, from all of five municipal districts of the city. Gathered data were analyzed using SPSS 10.0 for reliability, factor analysis, frequency and percentile, mean, standard deviation, paired samples t-test and F-test. The summary of the findings were as follows: First, the result of survey on the child edu-care facts showed that the most child edu-care centers had the focus on caring and education programs of children, while emotional supports for family services and community social services were rather secondary importance. Therefore, to achieve the comprehensive service programs, child edu-care services should be harmonized by the education and welfare approaches. Second, centered around teacher's request, comprehensive child edu-care program that fits the regional characteristics focuses on family service; thus the program requires family group consulting, parents education etc., as well as focusing on community service to utilize local community's human, physical resources and to strengthen the tie between local community and child care services.
Purpose: Even though a number of studies have suggested that appropriate measuring instruments of family stress for working women have to be developed, the validity and reliability of the instruments used have not been consistently examined. The purpose of the present study was to develop a sensitive instrument to measure family stress for married working women, and to test the validity and reliability of the instrument. Method: The items generated for this instrument were drawn from a comprehensive literature review Twenty four items were developed through evaluation by 10 experts and twenty one items were finally confirmed through item analysis. Psychometric testing was preformed and confirmed with a convenient sample of 240 women employed in the industrial sector. Result: Four factors evolved by factor analysis, which explained 50.5% of the total variance. The first factor 'Cooperation' explained 28.1%, 2nd factor 'Satisfaction with relationships' 10.6%, 3rd factor 'Democratic and comfortable environment' 6.3%, and 4th factor 'Disturbance of own living' 5.5%, Cronbach's coefficient of this instrument was 0.86. Conclusion: The study supports the validity and reliability of the instrument.
The purpose of this study was to find out cultural differences and types of adjustments made in response to the differences between married female immigrants and Korean men of multicultural families. The data were collected by in-depth interviews with 15 female immigrants and 5 Korean men. The major findings of this study were as follows : The female participants experienced cultural differences between Korea and their country in the areas of living culture, stereotyped gender role, and family's cultural traits. The male participants reported cultural differences in terms of the economic supports provided to the wife's family. The types and strategies of acculturation were as follows : adjusting themselves to the spouse's cultural type, the couple's mutual acceptance of the other's cultural type, and female participants resignation to accept help from their husband. The types of acculturation to the cultural differences based on couples' personal efforts and hard work invested into acculturation and the support from their family and society. The results of the study supported that multicultural families' perception of cultural differences and types of adjustment originited from their own experiences and cultural background.
Housing selections of the elderly depends on various changing factors as they get old. Among those factors, housing satisfaction might be one of the most predictable and crucial factor. This study is focused on the casual effect of housing satisfaction on the elderly's likelihood of selection among three alternatives of housing type. The sample was selected from 349 elderly aged above 65 who were living in Jeonju area, and was analyzed from multiple regressions and casual analysis. The results could be summarized as follows; First, the elderly preferred 'their own house living at present (aging in place)' among three housing type. Second, factors that influenced on housing satisfaction of the elderly were condition of health, economic status, living with spouse or not, level of social activities, and family supports. Third, the elderly who were male, without spouse living in single-family houses, in better health condition and with lower educational level were having more likelihood of selection of present housing. The elderly who were having more likelihood to select reverse mortgage payment were male, with spouse, living in apartment houses, the older, in worse health conditions and economic status. And the elderly who were male, with spouse, living in apartment houses, and in worse health conditions were having more likelihood to select national rental housing.
The purpose of this study was to identify emotional responses, of stroke patients using Q analysis. From the data analysis, five types of emotional responses in stroke patients were classified as follows. 1. Acceptance and Overcoming : They attached to life strongly and had self-confidence of recovery. They were striving against their situation through using anything else good for their recovery. 2. Anger Type : They recognized a labile feeling and were angered easily. They had a self-confident and self-esteemed personality before they had a stroke. 3. Conflict Type : They wanted interaction with others. This individual recognized that no one knows their agonies. They were thankful to god or their family, while they could not control their minds. Their family supports were low. 4. Deficiency of self-esteem Type : They had a self-confidence of recovery, but they were in fear of interaction with others. Especially, they were ashamed of themselves. They have a high sense of responsibility and nigh self-esteem for themselves before they had a stroke. 5. Despair Type. : They were sorry to trouble their family. They felt depression, anxiety, darkness, uselessness of themselves, and they wanted to die. They recognized financial burden. for their family. The characteristics of the five types of stroke patient identified in this study will be used to assess emotional nursing needs for stroke patients. The findings of this study will provide practical guidelines for developing nursing interventions for stroke patients based on the characteristics of subjectivity types.
