Two hundred eighty six adult non-insulin dependent diabetics from Seoul, Kyonggido, Kyongsangbukdo participated in the study. Researchers, dieticians, graduate students majoring in nutrition interviewed patients with a pre-structured questionnaire during June in 1998. The questionnaire included items about demographic factors, general characteristics about diabetes. social support, and compliance to dietary regimen. Descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA and Pearson's Correlation were used to analyze the data. The mean scores of support from family was 27.0(0∼44). support from relatives, friends, and colleagues was 14.7(0∼32). Mean score of intangible support from family was 19.9(0∼32) and 12.0(0∼24) from relatives, friends, and colleagues. Mean score of tangible support from family was 7.1 (0∼12) and 2.6(0∼8) from relatives, friends, and colleagues. The mean scores for compliance to dietary regimen was 31.6(0∼42). Regardless of type and source, there was significant(p<0.01) correlation between social support and dietary compliance. Therefore, inclusion of family members in nutrition education for diabetics is essential. It is necessary to find ways to increase social support from relatives, friends, and colleagues.

This study focused on the time use of a dual-earner working group with preschool children on working and nonworking days using 2014 time-use survey data provided by Statistics Korea(KOSTAT). We collected the time-use data recorded in a 2,158 time diary. We divided the time use into 4 parts ; paid work, household labor work (including caring work), leisure and living essentials. For the statistical analysis, we used SPSS 18.0 packages, i.e., descriptive statistics, T-test, Anova with Duncan test and regression for the impact off the independent factors. The results verified gender differences in time use and recognized the usefulness of the time-allocation analysis for the diagnosis of Work and Life Balance(WLB). In the conclusion, we suggest increasing men's time allocation for household labor as a crucial solution to the WLB of dual-earner working groups. And the follow-up study should include the various factors that affect the time allocation of dual-earner groups, such as type of labor and job and children's ages.
This study attempted to explore parents'perceptions on character and character education for their children using a focus group interview method. According to previous research, the concept of character consists of wholeness of three components: relationship, individuality, and morality. This study investigated how parents' perception differ from the widely agreed concept of character. Forty-four mothers and ten fathers participated in eleven focus group interviews. The results showed that parents recognized social relationship and self realization as two most important components of character education of children. However, the parents paid less attention on morality and wholeness. The parents conceptualized character as an alternative to academic achievement. For example, they considered self realization as an alternative to academic achievement. These tendencies could be a barrier in character education in family. Based on these findings, this study recommends that parent education should take more attention on character education in family and help parents develop a balanced understanding on the concept of character.
Although the globally known one-child policy in China was abolished in 2016, the overall fertility rate in the country declined to 1.3 in 2020. In this study, we examined whether the achievement of major developmental tasks during the childrearing stage was associated with intentions to have a second child among Chinese married women. Based on family development theory, we included parenting adaptation, division of childcare responsibilities with the partner, and marital adjustment as key developmental tasks during the childrearing stage. The participants of this study were 315 married Chinese women who lived with a spouse and a child who had not yet entered elementary school. Data were collected through an online survey in February and March 2021. A multiple regression analysis of the data revealed that a lower level of economic parenting stress, a higher level of fairness in dividing childcare responsibilities with the partner, and a more positive change in their marital relationship after having the first child were associated with greater intentions to have a second child.
The purpose of this study was to synthesize and interpret the findings of previous qualitative studies that investigated the lived experiences of Korean emerging adults who aged out of the foster care system. Based on our selection criteria, we extracted and analyzed 14 papers that were published between 2010 to 2023. Our meta-synthesis found that the emerging adults' life world consisted of seven domains: family experience, life tasks, education and work, financial issues, home and family, interpersonal relationships, and psychological and emotional issues. We restructured the emerging adults' lived experiences using van Manen's concepts of lived time, lived space, lived things, lived self-other, and lived body. Our meta-synthesis revealed that these emerging adults experienced multidimensional difficulties due to shortcomings of formal and informal social support after aging out of the foster care system. Their difficulties accumulated in their interaction with lived time. Based on the level of their accumulated difficulties, we categorized the emerging adults into stable, struggling, and isolated groups. However, it is important to note that many of them adapted to their own life world and strived to move forward. This qualitative meta-synthesis provides a comprehensive understanding and new interpretation of emerging adults who transition from foster care to independent living in the context of Korea.
