  • Objective: To categorize the radiological patterns of recurrence after bevacizumab treatment and to derive the pooled proportions of patients with recurrent malignant glioma showing the different radiological patterns. Materials and Methods: A systematic literature search in the Ovid-MEDLINE and EMBASE databases was performed to identify studies reporting radiological recurrence patterns in patients with recurrent malignant glioma after bevacizumab treatment failure until April 10, 2019. The pooled proportions according to radiological recurrence patterns (geographically local versus non-local recurrence) and predominant tumor portions (enhancing tumor versus non-enhancing tumor) after bevacizumab treatment were calculated. Subgroup and meta-regression analyses were also performed. Results: The systematic review and meta-analysis included 17 articles. The pooled proportions were 38.3% (95% confidence interval [CI], 30.6-46.1%) for a geographical radiologic pattern of non-local recurrence and 34.2% (95% CI, 27.3-41.5%) for a non-enhancing tumor-predominant recurrence pattern. In the subgroup analysis, the pooled proportion of non-local recurrence in the patients treated with bevacizumab only was slightly higher than that in patients treated with the combination with cytotoxic chemotherapy (34.9% [95% CI, 22.8-49.4%] versus 22.5% [95% CI, 9.5-44.6%]). Conclusion: A substantial proportion of high-grade glioma patients show non-local or non-enhancing radiologic patterns of recurrence after bevacizumab treatment, which may provide insight into surrogate endpoints for treatment failure in clinical trials of recurrent high-grade glioma.

  • State of the art machine learning methods can enhance the analysis of clinical data and improve the ability to predict patient outcomes because data collected from clinical records, such as heart failure mortality studies, are often high dimensional, heterogeneous and give challenges to traditional statistical analysis techniques. To address this challenge, this study conducted a survival analysis based on a dataset of 299 patients with heart failure, using Python libraries. Cox regression was used to model and analyse mortality, and to find which features are strongly associated with this outcome. The Kaplan-Meier survival curve approach was used to show the patterns of patient survival over time. The analysis showed that age, ejection fraction, and serum creatinine level were significantly (p≤0.001) associated with mortality. Anaemia and creatinine phosphokinase also reached statistical significance (p-values 0.026 and 0.007, respectively). The Cox model showed good concordance (0.77) with the data, suggesting that the identified variables are useful for predicting mortality in patients with heart failure.

  • In order to study the influence of loading angles on seismic performance of steel reinforced concrete (SRC) special-shaped columns, cyclic loading tests and finite element analysis (FEA) were both carried out. Seven SRC special-shaped columns, including two L-shaped columns, three T-shaped columns and two cross-shaped columns, were tested, and the failure patterns of the columns with different loading angles were obtained. Based on the tests, the FEA models of SRC special-shaped columns with different loading angles were established. According to the simulation results, hysteretic curves and seismic performance indexes, including bearing capacity, ductility, stiffness and energy dissipation capacity, were analyzed in detail. The results showed that the failure patterns were different for the columns with the same section and different loading angles. With the increasing of loading angles, the hysteretic curves became fuller and the bearing capacity and initial stiffness appeared increasing tendency, but the energy dissipation capacity changed insignificantly. When the loading angle changed, the ductility got better with the larger area of steel at the failure side for the unsymmetrical section and near the neutral axis for the symmetrical section, respectively.

  • With advancements in neonatal care and nutrition, the postnatal growth of preterm infants has improved; however, it remains an issue. Accurate assessments of growth using a standardized reference are needed to interpret the intrauterine and postnatal growth patterns of preterm infants. Growth in the earlier periods of life can contribute to later outcomes, and the refinement of postnatal growth failure is needed to optimize outcomes. Catch-up growth occurs mainly before discharge and until 24 months of age, and very low birth weight infants in Korea achieve retarded growth later in life. Knowing an infant's perinatal history, reducing morbidity rates during admission, and performing regular monitoring after discharge are required. Preterm infants with a lower birth weight or who were small for gestational age are at increased risk of poor neurodevelopmental outcomes. Furthermore, poor postnatal growth is predictive of adverse neurodevelopmental outcomes. Careful monitoring and early intervention will contribute to better development outcomes and national public health improvements.

  • PURPOSE. The influence of the modified process in the fiber-reinforced post and resin core foundation treatment on the fracture resistance and failure pattern of premolar was tested in this study. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Thirty-six human mandibular premolars were divided into 4 groups (n = 9). In group DCT, the quartz fibre post (D.T. Light-post) was cemented with resin cement (DUO-LINK) and a core foundation was formed with composite resin (LIGHT-CORE). In group DMO and DMT, resin cement (DUO-LINK) was used for post (D.T. Lightpost) cementation and core foundation; in group DMO, these procedures were performed simultaneously in one step, while DMT group was accomplished in separated two steps. In group LCT, the glass fiber post (LuxaPost) cementation and core foundation was accomplished with composite resin (LuxaCore-Dual) in separated procedures. Tooth were prepared with 2 mm ferrule and restored with nickel-chromium crowns. A static loading test was carried out and loads were applied to the buccal surface of the buccal cusp at a 45 degree inclination to the long axis of the tooth until failure occurred. The data were analyzed with MANOVA (${\alpha}$= .05). The failure pattern was observed and classified as either favorable (allowing repair) or unfavorable (not allowing repair). RESULTS. The mean fracture strength was highest in group DCT followed in descending order by groups DMO, DMT, and LCT. However, there were no significant differences in fracture strength between the groups. A higher prevalence of favorable fractures was detected in group DMT but there were no significant differences between the groups. CONCLUSION. The change of post or core foundation method does not appear to influence the fracture strength and failure patterns.

  • Purpose: This study was aim to evaluate the patterns of failure according to radiotherapy (RT) target volume for cervical lymph nodes in metastases of unknown primary origin in head and neck region (HNMUO). Materials and Methods: Sixty-two patients with HNMUO between 1998 and 2016 were retrospectively reviewed. We analyzed the clinical outcomes and primary site failure depending on the radiation target volume. The target volume was classified according to whether the potential head and neck mucosal sites were included and whether the neck node was treated involved side only or bilaterally. Results: Potential mucosal site RT (mucosal RT) was done to 23 patients and 39 patients did not receive mucosal RT. Mucosal RT showed no significant effect on overall survival (OS) and locoregional recurrence (LRR). The location of primary site failure encountered during follow-up period was found to be unpredictable and 75% of patients with recurrence received successful salvage therapies. No significant differences in OS and LRR were found between patients treated to unilateral (n = 35) and bilateral neck irradiation (n = 21). Treatment of both necks resulted in significantly higher mucositis. Conclusions: We found no advantages in OS and LRR of patients with HNMUO when mucosal sites and bilateral neck node were included in the radiation target volume.

  • The prevalence of heart failure (HF) is increasing, necessitating accurate diagnosis and tailored treatment. The accumulation of clinical information from patients with HF generates big data, which poses challenges for traditional analytical methods. To address this, big data approaches and artificial intelligence (AI) have been developed that can effectively predict future observations and outcomes, enabling precise diagnoses and personalized treatments of patients with HF. Machine learning (ML) is a subfield of AI that allows computers to analyze data, find patterns, and make predictions without explicit instructions. ML can be supervised, unsupervised, or semi-supervised. Deep learning is a branch of ML that uses artificial neural networks with multiple layers to find complex patterns. These AI technologies have shown significant potential in various aspects of HF research, including diagnosis, outcome prediction, classification of HF phenotypes, and optimization of treatment strategies. In addition, integrating multiple data sources, such as electrocardiography, electronic health records, and imaging data, can enhance the diagnostic accuracy of AI algorithms. Currently, wearable devices and remote monitoring aided by AI enable the earlier detection of HF and improved patient care. This review focuses on the rationale behind utilizing AI in HF and explores its various applications.

  • It is tried to draw the failure traits of leadership by extracting leadership parts from previous failure studies and including some parts which mention failure leadership among leadership-related books. All of 5 patterns are drawn through total 13 types of study data. From 'insensitive to change' and authoritarianism which is mentioned 8 times in such 13 studies, to 'interpersonal problem', which is mentioned five times, traits which are mentioned at least five times are selected. There are drawn 5 traits including ${\Delta}$ authoritarianism ${\Delta}insensitive$ to change ${\Delta}lack$ of executive ability ${\Delta}populism$ and ${\Delta}interpersonal$ problem. As being examined in these 5 types of failure traits, the failure of leadership is ultimately happened because of communication heading for the inside without any communication(exchange) to the outside. That is, it is understood that authoritarian leaders don't perceive change correctly but make a wrong communication (populism) or break down communication. Additionally, the executive ability is to perform actually one's idea and to be achieved through incessant communication with members. Compared with other various studies to draw failure factors, these leadership traits have something in common. In the previous researches conducted the study of general failure factors, ${\Delta}adherence$ to preexisting business and resistance to change ${\Delta}unfeasible$ expansion strategy ${\Delta}blind$ faith in successful technology and innovation and ${\Delta}insufficiency$ to grasp competitor(consumer) are pointed out as the failure factors. It is deemed that these are happened because organizational management is headed for the inside without any communication (exchange) to the external environments. Matters unfolded through this paper until now are an attempt to apply the failure knowledge to a leadership part which is an individual field in business administration. It is considered that this study will be complemented through additional case study or quantitative analysis in the future.

  • Failure patterns of rock specimens represent valuable information about the mechanical properties and crack evolution mechanism of rock. Several kinds of research have been conducted regarding the failure mechanism of brittle material, however; the influence of brittleness on the failure mechanism of rock specimens has not been precisely considered. In the present study, experimental and numerical examinations have been made to evaluate the physical and mechanical phenomena associated with rock failure mechanisms through the uniaxial compression test. In the experimental part, Unconfined Compressive Strength (UCS) tests equipped with Acoustic Emission (AE) have been conducted on rock samples with three different brittleness. Then, the numerical models have been calibrated based on experimental test results for further investigation and comparing the micro-cracking process in experimental and numerical models. It can be perceived that the failure mode of specimens with high brittleness is tensile axial splitting, based on the experimental evidence of rock specimens with different brittleness. Also, the crack growth mechanism of the rock specimens with various brittleness using discrete element modeling in the numerical part suggested that the specimens with more brittleness contain more tensile fracture during the loading sequences.
