Filament wound structures such as pressure tanks, pipes and motor cases of rockets are widely used in the aerospace application. The determination of a proper winding angle and thickness is very important to decrease manufacturing difficulties and to increase structural efficiency. In this study, possible winding angles considering the slippage between a fiber and a mandrel surface are calculated using the semi-geodesic path equation. In addition, finite element analysis using ABAcUS are performed to predict the behavior of filament wound structures considering continuous change of winding angle along the dome part. The water-pressuring tests of 3rd stage motor case are performed to verify the analysis procedure. The strain gages are attached on the surface in the fiber direction. Progressive failure analysis is performed to predict the burst pressure and the weakest region of the motor case. The effect of reinforcement is also studied to increase its performance.

The research trends for metal matrix composites have been on basic mechanical properties, fatigue behavior after aging and fractographic observations. In this study, the fatigue crack initiation as well as the fatigue crack growth behavior and the fracture mechanism were investigated through observations of the fracture surface on silicon carbide particles reinforced aluminum metal matrix composites(SiCp/Al). Based on the fractographic study done by scanning electron microscope and replica, crack growth path model and fracture mechanism are presented. The mechanical properties, such as the tensile strength, yield strength and elongation of SiCp/Al composites are improved in a longitudinal direction, however, the fatigue life is shorter than the basic Al6061 alloys. From fractographic observations, it is found that the failure mode is ductile in basic Ai6061 alloys. And because some SiC particles were pulled out from the matrix and a few SiC particles could be seen on the fracture surface of SiCp/Al, crack growth paths are believed to follow the interface of the matrix and its particles.

R'||'&'||'D project management is a process of decisions concerned with the achievement of goals of objectives. Especially, defense R'||'&'||'D project planning is the key in the successfull management of defense development. The defense project managers are constantly having to perform "what if\ulcorner" exercise, such as what if the project is extended out for an additional cost\ulcorner In this reserch, we developed a schedule-cost analysis model based upon Critical Path Method(CPM) and Venture Evaluation and Review Technique(VERT) for schedule-cost trade off analysis defense R'||'&'||'D projects. In the first step, a deterministic model is developed as a heuristic which deterministic model is developed as a heuristic which determines the schedule extension and reduction cost as a function desired schedule. In the second step, a stochastic network simulation model is developed to analyse the project risk (sucess and failure). The expected time and cost can be determined for desired schedule under the assumptions of stochastic arc data (time and cost) with a various precedence relationships. This model provides the defense R'||'&'||'D managers with an estimated and expected cost for curtailing or extending a project a given amount of time. The effectiveness and efficiency of the proposed methods, a heuristic and stochastic networks simulations, have been demonstrated through examples.

Over recent years, enormous amounts of research in wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have been conducted, due to its multifarious applications such as in environmental monitoring, object tracking, disaster management, manufacturing, monitoring and control. In some of WSN applications dependent the energy-efficient and link reliability are demanded. Hence, this paper presents a routing protocol that considers these two criteria. We propose a new mechanism called Reliable Routing Scheme for Energy-Balanced (RRSEB) to reduce the packets dropped during the data communications. It is based on Swarm Intelligence (SI) using the Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) method. The RRSEB is a self-adaptive method to ensure the high routing reliability in WSNs, if the failures occur due to the movement of the sensor nodes or sensor node's energy depletion. This is done by introducing a new method to create alternative paths together with the data routing obtained during the path discovery stage. The goal of this operation is to update and offer new routing information in order to construct the multiple paths resulting in an increased reliability of the sensor network. From the simulation, we have seen that the proposed method shows better results in terms of packet delivery ratio and energy efficiency.

In this study, the high-velocity impact penetration behavior of $[45/0/-45/90]_{ns}$ carbon/epoxy composite laminates was studied. The considered configuration includes a spherical steel ball impacting clamped circular laminates with various thicknesses and diameters. First, the impact experiment was performed to measure residual velocity and extent of damage. Next, the impact experiment was numerically simulated through finite element analysis using LS-dyna. Three-dimensional solid elements were used to model each ply of the laminates discretely, and progressive material failure was modeled using MAT162. The result indicated that the finite element simulation yielded residual velocities and damage modes well-matched with those obtained from the experiment. It was found that fiber damage was localized near the impactor penetration path, while matrix and delamination damage were much more spread out with the damage mode showing a dependency on the orientation angles and ply locations. The ballistic-limit velocities obtained by fitting the residual velocities increased almost linearly versus the laminate diameter, but the amount of increase was small, showing that the impact energy was absorbed mostly by the localized impact damage and that the influence of the laminate size was not significant at high-velocity impact.
Protection of user service becomes increasingly important since even very short interruption of service due to link or node failure will cause huge data loss and incur tremendous restoration cost in high speed network environment. Thus fast and efficient protection and restoration is one of the most important issues to be addressed. Protection methods have been proposed to provide efficiency and stability in optical networks. In this paper, an original network is separated into several domains using Hamiltonian cycle. and link protection is performed on the cycles of the domains. We have shown that protection path length can be decreased up to $57{\%}$ with marginal increase of backup capacity. Our proposed method can provide high-speed protection with marginal increase of protection capacity.

The purpose of present study is to explore the mechanical behavior of anchorage zones in prestressed concrete members with single and closely-spaced multiple tendon anchorages. The cracking loads and local stress distributions at these anchorage zones are studied. To this end, a series of experiments have been conducted. From this study, it is found that the failure of anchorage zones of the closely-spaced multiple tendon members is initiated by cracking along the tendon path and that the tensile stresses arising in the vicinity of anchorage zone of the first tendon are reduced due to additional compression of the second tendon. This results in the increase of cracking capacity of the member. The effects of multiple tendons are presented in the form of strain distribution and cracking load comparisons.

The reliability of blade root fixing section is required to endure the centrifugal force and vibration stress for the last stage blade of steam turbine in thermal power plant. Most of the domestic steam turbine last stage blades have finger type roots. The finger type blade is very complex, so the inspection had been performed only on the exposed fixing pin cross-section area due to the difficulty of inspection. But the centrifugal force and vibration stress are also applied at the blade root finger and the crack generates, so the inspection method for finger section is necessary. For the inspection of root finger, inspection points were decided by simulating ultra-sonic path with 3D modeling, curve-shape probe and fixing jig were invented, and the characteristics analysis method of ultrasonic reflection signal and defect signal disposition method were invented. This invented method was actually executed at site and prevented the blade liberation failure by detecting the cracks at the fingers. Also, the same type blades of the other turbines were inspected periodically and the reliability of the turbine increased.
A new type of precast CFST column to RC beam braced frame is proposed in this paper. A series of shake table tests were conducted to excite a one-third scale six-story model for investigating the global seismic performance of this type of structure against earthquake actions. Particular emphasis was given to its dynamic property, global seismic responses and failure path. Correspondingly, a numerical model built on the basis of fiber-beam-element model, multi-layer shell model and element-deactivation method was developed to simulate the seismic performance of the prototype structure. Numerical results were compared with the measured values from shake table tests to verify the validity and reliability of the numerical model. The results demonstrated that the proposed novel precast CFST column to RC beam braced frame performs excellently under strong earthquake excitations; the "strong CFST column-weak RC beam" and "strong connection-weak member" anti-seismic design principles can be easily achieved; the maximum deflections of precast CFSTC-RCB braced frame satisfied the deflection limitations proposed in national code; the numerical model can properly simulate the dynamic property and responses of the precast CFSTC-RCB braced frame that are highly concerned in engineering practice.
A series of element tests with different drainage conditions and strain rates were performed on compacted unsaturated non-plastic silt in unconfined conditions. Soil samples were compacted at water contents from dry to wet of optimum with the degree of saturation varying from 24 to 59.5% while maintaining the degree of compaction at 80%. The tests performed were shear infiltration tests in which specimens had constant net confining pressure, pore air pressure was kept drained and constant, just before the shear process pore water pressure was increased (and kept constant afterwards) to decrease matric suction and to start water infiltration. In constant water content tests, specimens had constant net confining pressure, pore air pressure was kept drained and constant whereas pore water pressure was kept undrained. As a result, the matric suction varied with increase in axial strain throughout the shearing process. In both cases, maximum shear strength was obtained for specimens prepared on dry side of optimum moisture content. Moreover, the gradient of stress path was not affected under different strain rates whereas the intercept of failure was changed due to the drainage conditions implied in this study.
