Fourty nine patients with squamous cell carcinoma of oral tongue were reviewed retrospectively for the evaluation of clinical manifestation and for the comparison between therapeutic modalites. The gross shape of the tumor was infiltrative in 22, ulcerative in 12, ad ulcer-oinfiltrative type in 10 patients. Direct extension of the tumor was most commonly to the floor of the mouth. The incidence of nodal metastasis generally increased with tumor stage. $55\%$ of the patients showed neck nodal metastasis at the time of diagnosis. Ipsilateral subdigastric node were most commonly involved, followed by submandibular nodes. The 5-year survival rate of patients treated with surgery and radiotherapy was $58.7\%$ in contrast to $21.6\%$ in radiation alone group. Overall 5-year survival rate was $31\%$ In radiation alone group, half of the patients in stage I, II were locally controlled. But the local control In stage III, IV was much inferior to early lesions. Especially, of 4 patients combined with implantation technique, 3 were completely controlled. 5-year survival rate of these implanted patients was $50\%,\;49.4\%$ of patients treated over 7,000cGy survived 5 years. This was significant in contrast to $6.4\%$ of the group treated below 7,000cGy. The most common sites of failures were primary sites. In early lesions primary radiotherapy with implantation would be an appropriate treatment in cancer of oral tongue, operation reserved for radiation failure. Operation and adjuvant radiotherapy is recommended in cases of advanced disease.
In this study, to improve bending strength performance of Korean white pine, we made the curved composite glulam that was reinforced with glass fiber materials and larch lamina. Five types of Korean white pine curved glulams were made depending on whether they had been reinforced or not and how they had been reinforced. Type-A, reference specimen, was produced only with Korean white pine lamina, and Type-B was with larch lamina in the same thickness. Type-C was made by inserting a glass fiber cloth of textile shape between the each layer. Type-D was reinforced with two glass fiber cloths, which were placed inside and outside of the outermost lamina. Type-E was reinforced with GFRP sheet in the same way as Type-D. As a result of this bending strength test, the modulus of rupture (MOR) of Type-B, Type-C and Type-E were increased by 29%, 6%, and 48% in comparison with Type-A. However, MOR of Type-D was decreased by 2% in comparison with Type-A. In the failure modes, Type-A, Type-B and Type-C were totally fractured at the maximum load. However, load values of Type-D and Type-E decreased slowly because of reinforcement of fracture suppression, and the GFRP sheet (Type-E) had better reinforcing effect on compressive stress and tensile stress than the glass fiber cloth (Type-D).

Most of the materials used in various industrial fields and also in our daily life are multi-component materials or composite materials, and it is well known that there are many cases where adhesion between the constituents within the bonded systems plays an important role. There are various types of performance evaluation tests for the bonded materials, among which tests for evaluating the bond performance under various conditions may be regarded as the most interesting ones for those engaged in work related to adhesion. I have studied on the mechanism of adhesion form the rheological standpoint with my colleagues, including some students from Korea, and I am very happy to be able to have a talk on some of our research works. In Japan, the so-called "adhesives" are usually classified into two categories;adhesives and pressure sensitive adhesives (PSA). Adhesives are the materials which solidify after bonding and are after used as the structural adhesives because the adhesive strength is comparatively strong. On the other hand, the pressure sensitive adhesives never solidify and are used as PSA tapes, labels or decals. About the adhesives, we have examined the dependence of adhesive strength(shear, tensile, peel) upon both temperature and rate of deformation, and found out some empirical rules which are applicable to most of the adhesive systems. We have also developed a simplified theory of adhesion, which is deseribed in terms of mechanical equivalent mode1 and a few failure criteria. Although some of the common rules can be accounted for according to this theory, it must be pointed out that a fracture mechanical approach ms inevitable especially in the region where the meehanical relaxation time of the adhesive is extremely large [W. W. Lim and H. Mizumachi]. About the pressure sensitive adhesives, we have studied on the PSA performance (peel, tack, holding power) as a function of both the viscoelastic properties and surface chemical properties of the materials, and found out some rules, and again we have developed a theory which deseribes the mechanism. And in addition, we have studied on the miscibility between linear polymers and oligomers, because PSA is generally manufactured by blending gums and tackifier resins. Many phase diagrams have been found and some of them have been analyzed on thermodynamic basis, and it became evident that the miscibility is a very important factor in PSA [H. J. Kin and H. Mizumachi]. In this presentation, I want to emphasize the fact that the adhesion performance is closely related to the structure/property of the adhesives.adhesives.
Evaluation of inadvertent dural puncture occuring among 308 epidural blocks done for the relief of pain from various conditions was performed. Dural puncture was suspected in 5 out of 308 epidural bloks. (1.6%) Aspiration of CSF was negative in 3 cases in which dural puncture was suspected only after developing spinal anesthesia. Of the 3 negative CSF aspirations, one case had a history of laminectomy. Adhesions of the adjacent tissues might result in the loss of flexibility and a decrease in potential epidural space which might cause dural tearing during injection and subarachoid injection of the local anesthetic followed by high spinal anesthesia. In another case, the needle tip was obstructed by tissue which led to negative aspiration of CSF and failure to feel loss of resistance. The second injection at the same site may cause subarachnoid injection of the local anesthetic through the previously perforated dura mater and in turn, lead to spinal anesthesia. In the last case, there was no reason to suspect dural puncture since the loss of resistance plus air rebound were definite and aspiration of CSF was negative, but dural puncture was suspected after the patient developed spinal anesthesia.
This study is focused on guard major collegians who are composed of factor in medical emergency system. In the case of cardiac failure, it is to make its basic data develop its education program of CPR which can increase the patient's survival rate before his hospitalization. The subject of study is composed of 120 persons who are 94 boy-collegians(78.3%) and 26 girl-collegians(21.7%) in sex and 66 first-grade collegians(55.0%) and 54 second-grade collegians(45.0%) in a school year. There is significant difference in the practices of artificial respiration and the thorax pressure after the education of basic CPR in sex(p<0.01). The practices of artificial respiration in boy-collegians($93.72{\pm}4.21$) is higher than in girl-collegians($82.31{\pm}6.36$) and the practices of thorax pressure in boy-collegians($92.45{\pm}4.44$) is higher than in girl-collegians($88.08{\pm}6.49$). The satisfaction degree of boy-collegians($4.33{\pm}0.59$) is higher than that of girl-collegians($3.73{\pm}0.67$) after theory & practice education of basic CPR(p<0.01). It is necessary to develop the education program and educate its knowledge & technology in proportion to collegians characteristics of sex and school year. Also, education authorities should develop a subject of the accident provided the practical education of CPR for guard major collegians.
Recently, the demand for mobile communications and multimedia services has rapidly increased so that conventional cellular system cannot fulfill the requirement of users (capacity and QoS) any more. Therefore, the hierarchical cellular system has been suggested in order to guarantee the QoS and to admit large population of users. IMT-2000 adopts the hierarchical cellular structure, which requires a call control algorithm capable of manipulating and utilizing the complicated structure of hierarchical cellular structure with handiness and efficiency. In this thesis, as an improvement of conventional combined algorithm, a new call control algorithm considering the moving speed of terminal and bandwidth is suggested. This algorithm employs buffers and guard channels to reduce the failure rate. Also, this algorithm considers the moving speed of terminal and bandwidth to elevate the efficiency. Furthermore, calls are handled separately according to the moving speeds of terminal and bandwidths to improve the QoS and reduce the handover rate. As an evaluation of the suggested algorithm, a model hierarchical cellular system is constructed and simulations are conducted with various types of traffic. As the result of the simulations, such indices as block rate, drop rate, channel utilization, and the number of inter layer handovers are examined to demonstrate the excellency fo the suggested algorithm.

The application of sulfur polymer emulsion (SPE) as an acrylate substitute for semi-rigid pavement grout was evaluated, and the performance improvement by employing PVA fibers were also evaluated. The result indicated that the filling ratio of semi-rigid pavement material decreased as the fiber content increased, but it was measured to be 92~94% in every mixing condition, which satisfies the target performance, 90%. The maximum Marshall stability value of semi-rigid pavement material was measured to be 25.4 kN, which is about 4.7 times higher than the Korean Standard required for semi-rigid pavement material, 5.0 kN. The dynamic stability evaluation of semi-rigid pavement material indicated that the resistance to deformation from the wheel tracking test was improved by an SPE substitution, and in every mixing condition, the deformation converged to a constant value after 45 minutes with the same dynamic stability of 31,500 times/mm. The strain at the flexural failure was about 0.53%, which shows superior rigidity to asphalt pavements. The examination of abrasion resistance and impact resistance showed that the loss ratio was 9.8~6.0% in every mixing condition, which indicates a good abrasion resistance. Also, when fiber content ratio was 0.3%, the impact resistance was 2.82 times higher compared to plain (i.e., when fibers were not added). In the limited range of this study, an SPE substitution ratio of 30% was found to be an optimal level considering the mechanical and durability performance. In addition, it is thought that semi-rigid pavement material with superior performance could be manufactured if fiber content ratio up to 0.3% is applied depending on the purpose of use.

Recently, The use of the curtain wall method is increasing in construction. The curtain wall construction is widely applied to the exterior wall of the building for shortening construction period and economical efficiency. However, the replacement of deterioration of the weather resistance and structural behavior of the sealing material connecting the curtain wall method and the glass frame is necessary for introduction of the stable curtain wall method and quality improvement in accordance with KS F 4910 standard. In this study, the elastic restoring force test was performed in the external environment. In this study, the deterioration of the sealant was evaluated for structural sealants. In Korea, studies on the variable displacement behavior of structural sealants are lacked. In this study, the reproduced results in laboratory conditions are compared with the deteriorating conditions exposed to the external environment, and they are reflected in the design of sealing materials in the future. According to the results of the study, it was confirmed that the existing structure sealant meets the quality standard of KS F 4910, but in the conditions performed in this study, adhesion failure of the specimen and cracking of the surface occurred. Especially, in the weather resistance test, it is necessary to evaluate the long-term durability performance of the structural sealant used in the curtain wall method by checking the insoluble state of all the test pieces. Therefore, in order to apply a conventional structural sealant to the site, it is necessary to introduce another durability performance evaluation.

In this study, experimental research was carried out to evaluate and improve the seismic performance of reinforced concrete beam-column joint regions using strengthening materials (embedded CFRP rod and CFRP sheet) in existing reinforced concrete building. Therefore it was constructed and tested six specimens retrofitting the beam-column joint regions using such retrofitting materials. Specimens, designed by retrofitting the beam-column joint regions of existing reinforced concrete building, were showed the stable failure mode and increase of load-carrying capacity due to the effect of crack control at the times of initial loading and confinement of retrofitting materials during testing. Specimens RBCJ-SRC2, designed by the retrofitting of CFRP Rod and CFRP Sheet in reinforecd beam-column joint regions were increased its maximum load carrying capacity by 1.97 times and its energy dissipation capacity by 2.08 times in comparison with standard specimen RBCJ for a displacement ductility of 4 and 7. Also, specimens RBCJ-SRC2 were increased its maximum load carrying capacity by 1.09~1.11 times in comparison with specimen RBCJ-SR series. And Specimens RBCJ-CS, RBCJ-SR series, RBCJ-SRC2 were increased its energy dissipation capacity by 1.10~2.30 times in comparison with standard specimen RBCJ for a displacement ductility of 5, 6.
An abnormal seepage flow, which is mainly caused by the piping, is one of the major reasons for embankment dam failure. A leakage detection is therefore a vital part of an embankment dam's monitoring. Resistivity method, which is an efficient tool to detect leakage zones, has been used all over the world for an embankment dam's monitoring. Although the resistivity method gives us very useful information about the leakage problem, there is no more quantitative interpretation than the low resistivity zones in the 2-dimensional resistivity section are regraded simply as the anomalous seepage zones. Recently, resistivity monitoring technique is applied for the detection of leakage zones. However, its interpretation still remains in the stage of presenting the resistivity ratio itself. An increased seepage flow increases a porosity and an increasing porosity decreases the dam's stability. Therefore, the porosity is one of the major factors for an embankment dam's stability. Based on Archie's experimental formula, we try to evaluate a porosity distribution from the resistivity data which is obtained on the dam's crest. We also attempt to represent a procedure to evaluate a safety index of the embankment dam from the resistivity monitoring data.
