  • Reliability engineering is regarded as the major and important roll for all industry. And advanced manufacturing systems with high speed and intelligent have been developing for the betterment of machining ability. In this study, we have systemized evaluation of reliability for machinery system. We proposed the reliability assessment and design review method using analyzing critical units of high speed and intelligent machine system. In addition, we have not only designed and developed test bed system for acquiring reliability data, but also apply QFD technique for satisfying quality function which is provided in design phase. From this study, we will expect to guide and introduce the reliability engineering in developing and processing phase of high quality product.

  • Reliability engineering is regarded as the major and important roll for all industry. And advanced manufacturing systems with high sped and intelligent have been developing for betterment of machining ability. In this study, we have systemized evaluation of reliability for machinery system. We proposed the reliability assessment and designed and manufactured reliability test-bed to evaluate reliability. In addition we acquired reliability data using test-bed system and made database to handle reliability data. And also we not only use reliability data by analyzing reliability, but also apply design review method using analyzing critical units of machinery system. Form this study, we will expect to guide and increase the reliability engineering in developing and processing phase of high quality product.

  • This research is concerned with a study of failure strength evaluation on heat element gap at resistance welding. The failure strength of resistance welded joint is changed by welding factor like as current(power level), welding time(total energy), pressure etc. and another heat element factor like as number of element line, element gap etc. Tensile-shear tests were carried out with the single-lap specimen using polypropylene(PP). The failure mechanism and optimization of gap was discussed in order to explain the tensile-shear strength evaluation on heat element gap at resistance welding. Orthogonal array was used by fractional factorial design for efficient experiments.

  • As part of an evaluation for an in-vessel severe accident management strategy, a coolant injection into the reactor vessel under depressurization of the reactor coolant system (RCS) has been evaluated in detail using the SCDAP/RELAP5 computer code. A high-pressure sequence of a small break loss of coolant accident (SBLOCA) has been analyzed in the Optimized Power Reactor (OPR) 1000. The SCDAP/RELAP5 results have shown that safety injection timing and capacity with RCS depressurization timing and capacity are very effective on the reactor vessel failure during a severe accident. Only one train operation of the high pressure safety injection (HPSI) for 30,000 seconds with RCS depressurization prevents failure of the reactor vessel. In this case, the operation of only the low pressure safety injection (LPSI) without a HPSI does not prevent failure of the reactor vessel.

  • The gear that is used in various mechanical components occurs easily damages due to the repeated torque and the high oil temperature. The main failure mode of the gear is the surface deterioration with the tooth surface fatigue. Therefore, the life evaluation and the failure analysis of the gear were very important since it may cause fatal damage of entire gear box system. In this paper, the failure mechanism and the life of the gear were evaluated using the durability analysis simulator such as MSC.FATIGUE. Moreover, the reliability analysis model of the spur gear with the accelerated life testing technique was proposed.

  • Failure mode and effects analysis (FMEA) is a widely used technique to assess or to improve reliability of products or processes at early stage of development. Traditionally, the prioritization of failures for corrective actions is performed by evaluating risk priority numbers (RPN). In practice, due to insufficient evaluation criteria specific to related products and processes, RPN is not always evaluated properly. This paper reestablishes an effective methodology for prioritization of failure modes in FMEA procedure. Revised evaluation criteria of RPN are devised and a refined FMEA sheet is introduced. To verify the proposed methodology, it is applied to inspection processes of PCB products.

  • As the power industry moves towards open competition, there has been a call for methodology to evaluate power system reliability by using composite interruption cost. This paper presents algorithms to evaluate the interruption cost of distribution power systems by taking into consideration the failure source and the composite customer interruption cost. From the consumer's standpoint, the composite customer interruption cost is considered as the most valuable index to estimate the reliability of a power distribution system. This paper presents new algorithms that consider the load by customer type and failure probability by distribution facilities while calculating the amount of unserved energy by customer type. Finally, evaluation results of unserved energy and system interruption cost based on composite customer interruption cost are shown in detail.

  • The cost needed to managing equipment is constantly increasing because of increase of power equipment. The regulations such as PAS 55 and ISO 55000 were enacted to manage equipment assets. The advanced management methods such as real-time monitoring, condition evaluation, and health indices are avalable in generation system, transmission system, and substation transformers. However, These methods can not be applied to distribution equipment because of a lot of equipment. Therefore reliability assessment is very important in case of distribution equipment. In this paper, failure rates are extracted considering characteristics of regions, and which are the essential factors to reliability evaluation.

  • The present paper to relate with the maintenance of the high-speed vehicle, KTX and is to treat a reliability evaluation. The reliability of the high-speed vehicle while operating between-failure average mileage (MKBSF) and parts between-failure average mileage (MKBF), 1,000,000 per km service failure number of items and availability and per km evaluated a maintenance expense. The reliability evaluation results and 2007 year reliability management indexes compared in 2006 years and they improved, per km the maintenance expense compared at 2006 and 36.6% was decreased. Reliability management activity leads and availability of the high-speed vehicle, safety improves and with the fact that will be able to decrease the maintenance expense which is an economic scale of railroad service is expected.

Simple Evaluation Method of Uplift Resistance for Frictional Shallow Anchors in Rock

  • This paper presents the results of full-scale load tests performed frictional anchors to various lengths at several sites in Korea. Various rock types were tested, ranging from highly weathered shale to sound gneiss. In many tests, rock failure was reached and the ultimate loads were recorded along with observations of the shape and extent of the failure surface. Laboratory tests were also conducted to investigate the influence of the corrosion protection sheath on the bond strength. Based on test results, the main parameters governing the uplift capacity of the rock anchor system were determined. By evaluation of the ultimate uplift capacity of anchor foundations in a wide range of in situ rock masses, rock classification suitable for structural foundation was developed. Finally, a very simple and economical design procedure is proposed for rock anchor foundations subjected to uplift tensile loads.
